The Art Museum of Myrtle Beach is located in a delightful Southern-style cottage looking onto the Atlantic Ocean. Despite its relatively small size, it is home to four fascinating permanent collections and is renowned for its quirky temporary exhibitions.Take a few hours to explore the museum and its wealth of local and regional works. The Bishop Maps and Prints Collection is especially absorbing. Donated by the Bishop family, these 15 historic hand-drawn maps date from as far back as 1606. Admire the permanent Waccamaw Arts and Crafts Guild collection, which features 29 celebrated regional artists.Fifty works by more than a dozen artists from the South were donated to the museum by the Barbara Burgess and John Dinkelspiel Collection of Southern Art. Browse the lithographs, photographs, paintings and drawings that make up this permanent collection.If you fancy trying your hand at creating some artwork yourself, give the museum's Art Studio a call to see what classes are currently on offer. The studio runs regular workshops for children, adults and families, and there's a wide variety to choose from. Try a sculpture workshop or drawing and shading class, or experiment with recycled material just be sure to book in advance to avoid disappointment.Entry to the Art Museum of Myrtle Beach is free, but donations towards programmes and future exhibits are much appreciated.
