About this property
Mountain cabin with views over Juvatn
From this secluded cabin, you'll enjoy a truly special view of Juvatn, with the sunrise painting the sky visible from both the bedroom and the living room. Here, far from the noise and light pollution of the city, an authentic mountain experience awaits, with abundant wildlife right outside your door.
We've furnished the cabin simply yet comfortably, focusing on the essentials. The open floor plan lets you enjoy the panoramic view from every living area, and the high-quality sound system creates the perfect atmosphere for quiet evenings. There's a simple toilet inside the cabin that's not connected to a plumbing system, and an outhouse attached to the cabin right next door. You walk straight out the door and follow a covered walkway that leads to a small storage shed—from here, you've got direct access to the toilet. This setup provides good protection from the elements and contributes to an authentic cabin experience in scenic surroundings. From this secluded location, you've direct access to nature, where you can spot everything from foxes and deer to capercaillies. The property's secluded, yet it's only 250 metres from the car park, so it's easy to get to and from. Bortelid is a family-friendly mountain area in Åseral, in the heart of the beautiful Setesdalsheiene, easily accessible from both Southern Norway and abroad. From Kristiansand, where the ferries from Denmark arrive, it'll take you less than 2 hours by car. In the event of extreme drought in the summer, the water in the tap and shower may, in rare cases, run out. If this happens, please contact the host. There's extra water at the cabin.
There's also a water tap with drinking water about 50–100 metres from the cabin, and this tap will always have water. The area offers a variety of activities year-round. In the summer and autumn, you can swim at Rundatjønn, just five minutes away, or go canoeing on Juvatner. The area also offers great walking, cycling, berry and mushroom picking, fishing, and swimming in clear mountain lakes. In winter, Bortelid offers excellent conditions for skiing—with miles of groomed cross-country trails in varied terrain and a modern alpine ski centre.
