Great location in the woods. Minutes from downtown Asheville.
Really enjoyed our stay here. There were six of us Plenty of space. Kitchen well equipped and very quiet and peaceful spot. Saw a bear twice strolling in the backyard but didn’t bother us. Definitely would stay here again.
The property feels so secluded, yet it is only minutes to grocery stores, restaurants, and all Asheville has to offer. The house was very clean and worked well for traveling with a dog. Besides being well appointed with toiletries, linens, coffee bar, there were towels and bags for the dogs and towels for the hot tub. Would absolutely stay here again.
Wonderful house nestled on a hillside in Southslope area. Easy access to downtown. Very quiet spot but just a few minutes to everything you need. Management super-easy to work with. Will be back!
Very spacious and plenty of room for kids of all ages. Nice outdoor space. A few more comfortable seats in the living room would have been nice. Kitchen was good size and well stocked. Driveway is a monster!! Would not stay here in the winter because of it. But fantastic otherwise!!
We had a great time at the Highland Hideaway for a group of 6! The property was well equipped for everything we needed and more! It was the perfect location to be so close to everything fun in downtown Asheville but still isolated enough to feel like we had our own private retreat when we were back home! I'd absolutely recommend the property and management to anyone looking into an Asheville trip! The only thing I'd note would be to make sure you have the instructions on how to arrive and locate the property, especially if you're arriving after dark! GPS can be hit or miss.
Great location, proximity to everything. You can be downtown at the restaurant scene in minutes, and spend the evening watching the sunset at Grove park in with a very short drive. Its also centrally located to hiking trails, french broad river and other getaways near Ashville. Some of the things that need attention is the outside furniture is filthy, cannot be used, needs to be cleaned. Inside carpet is stained and easily be cleaned. The property on the outside is badly neglected to the point where there are plants growing in the gutters- a gutter cleaning can help and protect the home. The outside of the home needs a power wash, including outside seating areas. the Hottub cover is chipping away and it created s nuisance. Furniture and beds inside the home are immaculate and comfortable. Screened door to go outside to the hotTub is a hassle to open and close, needs to be fixed.
Great location, nice place to get away into the woods while still being close to town. Loved sitting on the front porch with coffee every morning. Lots of rooms and bathrooms with a fully stocked kitchen. Place was clean and had a great layout.
We did have some issues though. Sheets were not put on every bed (with no extra sheets), specifically the basement single top bunk beds), which wasn't previously communicated and led to some problems. Also they only provided "starter" toilet paper (also not communicated) and there was no inside broom. Basement bedroom was consistently freezing, and you could hear all the bathroom noise above in the 1st floor bedroom. FYI very steep driveway.
The weather was terrible on the weekend we were visiting Asheville, but we were all more than happy to stay in the house, as it was so cozy and had everything we could want for need! Fully stocked kitchen was wonderful, beds were all comfortable, and the hot tub and fire pit were great!
Great home. 10 of us stayed here for a men’s weekend and there was plenty of room. The home was clean and well maintained. Probably the best thing about the property is how close it is to downtown and how quiet and secluded you are. Hopefully the owners will invest in a gas or charcoal grill for future guests to use. Overall, we loved the house and would absolutely stay here again.
This was a great house for a birthday weekend! We had a group of 6 adults. Plenty of space to spread out, the kitchen and baths were well stocked, and the beds were super comfy! We also loved the hot tub and fire pit, and the fact that we were super close to downtown but felt like we were in the mountains. Property managers were super responsive and communicative as well. My only minor complaint is that none of the bedroom windows had shades or curtains…so if sleeping in is your thing, bring an eye mask. Overall, good value for a comfortable space. Would definitely rent this one again with a group!
Location is great. Less than 10 minute drive via Beaucatcher tunnel and you are right downtown. But secluded enough we saw bears twice ambling through the brush up the hill and turkeys are abundant. And so roomy - beds and bathrooms galore. And the house is prepared for & very pet friendly.
Odd things - master bedroom has no closets with a clothes rod. There’s plenty of closets, just no rod. Also, plenty of beds and abundant towels but otherwise linens are pretty sparsely supplied. A few more blankets/throws and extra sheets would be welcomed.
The kitchen is nice/modern and had a decent supply of salt, pepper, basic spices. We never used the hot tub but it looked like it was nice. Internet connection was uncomplicated.
We would definitely stay again at Highlands Hideaway.

Liked: Cleanliness, location, listing accuracy
Disliked: Check-in, communication
Nice house, poor management
We were pleased with the house in general - beautiful house and location. However lacked some key staples (coffee, speaker for playing music), and when we called the mgmt company to ask about the latter we were transferred twice and then had to wait 30 mins to be texted by maintenance that we should use google to figure out how to connect cell audio to the tv (not possible). The bunk beds were also very unstable (one of the top bunks seemed unsafe / unuseable because it swayed so much when we tried to use it - our friend slept on the basement couch instead). Lastly, we were disappointed at the disproportionate fee for early checkin (1pm vs 4pm) - felt like being nickel & dimed since this is not industry standard for vrbo or hotel if room/property is available. All in all, nice house/location but wouldn’t stay here again given the above
Pros: Very nice space with nice beds and enough room for everyone. There is a filtered water pitcher in the fridge for water. Handful of basic spices. Hot tub was clean and easy to use. Whole house was very clean! In addition, they provided a nice basket with items such as fire starter and pee pads for dogs.
Cons: The driveway is VERY steep. Our first day it was raining and we don’t believe we would have made it up the driveway without 4 wheel drive. I would not recommend staying here unless you are comfortable with that. 4 wheel drive probably not required in the summer, but it is STEEP.
Also, the fire pit is NOT GAS. I messaged the property management company beforehand to see if we needed firewood which they assured us we don’t because it’s gas. However, it is a regular fire pit.
Overall, a nice stay, bathrooms are a little small but everything worked well and was well stocked. We had a nice time and enjoyed ourselves! The driveway is very easy to miss so keep your eyes peeled (:
Highland Hideaway is a wonderful little house. When you're there, it gives you the feeling that you're deep in the woods, because you're surrounded by wonderful trees on all sides, and just far enough from the main road that you can enjoy the silence and peace of the woods, but it's close enough to town, that you can be in shops and restaurants within a 5 minute drive. On the evening we checked in, I needed a supermarket and there are two Whole Foods within 1.5 miles of Highland Hideaway. The house is kept very clean, and everything works. The kitchen is stocked with anything you might need to stay in and prepare a meal, or even bake cookies. My only recommendation would be to add window treatments in the master bedroom: when morning comes around the room is filled with natural light, and it's very difficult to sleep in (which some like to do while on vacation). Carolina Mornings seems to be an excellent management company - they responded immediately to our inquiry during our stay. We spent a memorable Christmas with our kids at this little house.
Overall the place was great. The owner-suite shower drained slowly. We had a tragedy in our group that kept some of us from making the trip. The rest of us had to cut the trip short. I explained the tragedy to Carolina Mornings and ask to reschedule our trip. They would not allow for any changes to our trip. They asked me if I purchased insurance instead.
