Welcome to your very own piece of paradise only 15 minutes from Asheville, North Carolina where you will enjoy your time away from the cares of this world. Located on a 150 acre gated estate, Wintersun sets itself apart from other mountain homes.

As soon as you drive through the gates, you will pass a rushing trout stream, drive through a lush green valley, cross over the bridge by the trickle down ponds, pass the horses playing in a mountain meadow and drive up and away to the fern and flower-bedecked verandah, which offers a comfortable seat and a breathtaking view.

The environment is a contrast in expansiveness and intimacy. From the verandah mountain ranges recede into smoky blue shadows, while on the arbor side the stone garden climbs 50 feet flanking a 24-foot waterfall surrounded by an enclosed lawn.

Inside the elegant country home are spacious rooms furnished with oriental rugs, antiques, huge stone fireplaces, books galore, with deep chairs and sofas for leisurely pursuits. All 5 of Wintersun's bedrooms are beautifully appointed with fine furnishings, designer fabrics, lush linens, down comforters, private baths, cozy seating, and fireplaces, with fabulous views of the blue ridge mountains.

For disc golf lovers, in addition to 4 miles of private hiking trails there are 2 private disc golf courses which have been rated as one of the best private courses on the east coast.

Amazing Inn - super cozy

Everything is so comfy at this house - great location - easy to get to Asheville and beautiful grounds to take walks and enjoy mountain life. Every state room is perfectly appointed.

Wintersun met all our expectations. We were looking for a place where our family could get together and enjoy all that Asheville has to offer and reconnect with friends. The property has many hiking trails and provides plenty of space for guests to enjoy quiet time.

We did an extended 13 day stay and enjoyed the property immensely. Judy is easy to communicate with and she went out of her way to upgrade the wifi for us since we were working remotely. The grounds are beautiful for hikes, frisbee golf, or walking with dogs. We’ll likely return.

Our family gathered from as far away as Germany to celebrated four 0 birthdays and could not have asked for a more magical place. It took months of research to find Wintersun and we could not have been more pleased. It truly was a dream come true And we all learned a new sport!! A magical Christmas

We had a wonderful Christmas with our family at Wintersun. The house was beautifully decorated for the holiday and has everything you may need to enjoy your stay. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch by the fire pit in the mornings while deer and the horses grazed. We had some great hikes around the property and nearby. The kids enjoyed roaming the house and rolling down the grass in the front yard. I was slightly skeptical of the number of 5* reviews but everything was true. You can tell that this house is someone’s passion project and an incredible amount of love has gone into it over the years. We would absolutely return and hope to again in the future.

Heaven on Earth

Wintersun was an amazing experience for our entire family. Elegant and enchanting! Every minute of our weekend before Thanksgiving stay made a marvelous memory! As we drove through the gate and wound up to the mountain top, we could not believe the gorgeous setting! And then we saw the exquisite estate house, beautifully decorated for the holidays and we were in love with Wintersun! The house is perfectly decorated and furnished as an olde English Manor house. So lovely and warm and comfy cozy. Extremely spacious for our three families, with so many beautiful and picturesque seating areas, inside and out on the porches. The sunsets were breathtaking from the front veranda! The kitchen and butler’s pantry were so well equipped and stocked, which allowed us to prepare a fabulous Thanksgiving feast for our family to enjoy in the grand dining room. A fireplace in each room was delightful. We never finished admiring Wintersuns’s incredible craftsmanship and architectural details. The waterfall behind the house is fabulous! The hiking trails are named, perfectly maintained and mapped. So lovely to hike through miles and miles of woods! The disc golf courses were also perfectly maintained, marked and so easy to follow. Our entire family, from 4 years old to 70 joined in and had so much fun playing the 9-hole course. We cannot wait to return and try out the 18-hole course. The trout stream and all the gorgeous rocks were lovely. We really appreciated seeing the old preserved Springhouse and gas pump. Our entire family is still talking about our best Thanksgiving ever, at WINTERSUN! We cannot wait to return❤️

Breathtaking.

We love getting away as a family. North Carolina as been one of our favorite places to head. We booked this beautiful home, due to it's location. The home, the grounds, and the homeowners are amazing. The home and the grounds were beautiful, peaceful, and left you not lacking in anything. With in the first hour of being there, we all stated we were staying again, no ifs ands or buts. If you get a chance to stay here, DO IT!, you want be disappointed!

This property is so big you might not see your kids except for mealtime! It's a gorgeous property, but not for those that have troubles walking up hills. We certainly got our exercise exploring the estate! My 13yr daughter had 15,000 steps one day....that'll keep them off the devices!! One of my favorite memories will be sitting on the front porch watching the lightning bugs in the evening with my kids.....they've never seen them before!!

My kids pooled their money together to buy a scooter so that they could race down the hills...made for good exercise for the dog as well!
We love how dog friendly they are at Wintersun!!!
Although, swing doors can be confusing to the bulldog.

Amazing property and beautiful place- very responsive hostess/manager. Would recommend a new grill as we planned to grill one evening but it was not as clean as we would have expected so we changed plans.

This was our fifth year at Wintersun! What a wonderful place! We always look forward to our stays at the big house! Roaming the grounds and trails and heading in to Asheville and the surrounding areas. Just too much fun! We will be back!

60th Birthday party

The host and caretaker were amazing and very responsive. The property was even more incredible than the photos could show. Nothing beats having acres of land to yourself allowing you to laugh loud and enjoy your music late into the evening. Plenty of kitchen space for the private Chef we hired for a speacial dinner.

Tranquil Estate combining grandeur and warmth

Winter sun estate is truly magical! Not only is the setting tranquil with stunning, hiking trails and rolling hills with a magnificent porch front view… It truly feels as if you have stepped back in time with its grand architecture, furnishings and setting. Perfect for hosting multiple family’s and friends as we did for our weeks stay celebrating our friends and family coming in for our sons wedding. We hosted an intimate Rehearsal Dinner which all of our guests really enjoyed . The host has such a beautiful array of dishes, stemware , silverware etc to easily host an elegant dinner party! Beds were comfy with very spacious rooms and en-suite bathrooms that made it perfect for 8 of our family members to move in for the week. We didn’t want to leave! The only “tweaks” I would recommend would be a supply of a few more towels per guest

Incredible space for a family celebration!

We reserved Wintersun to celebrate our mom's 90th birthday. The porches, views, trails, and wildlife made the celebration extra special. We found most of the trails to be very well maintained. Landscaping is also quite impressive. (Nice work, Alex and crew!) We enjoyed seeing wild turkeys on the main lawn each morning/evening. Staff were very responsive and helpful (no problems, just questions!). Neighbors stopped to help us take photographs. I can't wait to go back. Judy and her staff have earned all the accolades possible.

Truly a world class estate property!

Our family rented both the Inn and the Cottage on this gorgeous 180 acre property for one week in June... for our daughter's nearby wedding in Fairview. The Inn is even better than the photos. Beyond description. Beautifully decorated, lovingly maintained, all details taken into account. We had almost all dinners in the large dining room - seats 10 easily. And the kitchen amazed us.. ample seating for family and friends to relax. Our favorite area is the front porch... lounge chairs and chaises and more. We could relax and watch the fireflies, enjoy the full moon rising, and the horses in Judy's pasture nearby. Very private gated property with a 3/4 mile driveway. We walked and ran the 4 miles of trails, explored the labyrinth, played disc golf, fished in the stocked trout stream. This is by far the best Vrbo we have ever experienced. It felt like Narnia... and there is even a large wardrobe or two. :) Two beautiful bears ambled by - one in the meadow and one by the waterfall.. magical. We hope to return with our family in the future. Thank you, Judy, for making our outstanding wedding week even more memorable. Lou from Colorado

Absolutely breathtaking experience

We had an absolutely amazing time staying at Wintersun for a long weekend and an intimate wedding. The grounds and house exceeded all expectations from the listing and our research. The house was truly incredible, offering plenty of room for us to gather together while also providing spaces for privacy. The grounds were breathtakingly beautiful, exceptionally quiet, and peaceful. Wonderful spring weekend

I returned to Asheville for my 30 year high school reunion with a group of close friends. Wintersun was an amazing location that offered so many options. Sitting on the front porch and simply enjoying the views (which included wild turkeys, deer, hawks and a local horse) while catching up with old friends was likely my favorite. The trout filled stream, frisbee golf courses and hiking paths were some of the other enjoyed amenities. Perfect spot and this group will return for sure. Sober Disc Golf Trip

Incredible property with a short but interesting history of its development. Custom built to be a resort retreat for Non-Profit executives/employees. Operated as a high end B&B / Inn for over a decade. Every bedroom has a full bathroom and every room has a working gas fireplace. Beautifully landscaped and very well cared for.
