My family’s stay was extremely disappointing and genuinely unsafe. We booked this property during renovations and confirmed with the host that renovations were complete prior to arriving. That was not true. The unit was in terrible condition and not safe.The downstairs shower sprayed water outside the pan, vanities were broken, towel bars falling off, and there was no railing on the stairs—a major fall hazard. An exposed electrical outlet dangled inside a cabinet without a cover. The dishwasher was dirty and unsecured, and the floors were still covered in construction spackle.The worst issue: a natural gas leak. We returned from a day out to a strong gas smell. I shut off the stove valve and contacted the host. Out of caution, I called the fire department and South Jersey Gas. The technician said the valve was only “hand tight”. This was not a minor oversight. It was a serious safety concern that could have had tragic consequences. My children were scared to sleep in the house afterward.I messaged the host about all the issues and requested a full refund. They offered a refund for one night due to the gas leak but never issued it—and never addressed the other concerns. We also spoke with two other guests in neighboring units with the same host who had similar unpleasant and misrepresented experiences.This property was misrepresented, unfinished, and unsafe. It should not be listed until made safe and complete. We’re pursuing a full refund through VRBO support.
