  • Welcome to Finlandia! Finlandia is a dog-friendly Avon oceanside cottage ready for you and your family to enjoy. Finlandia has its roots in - you guessed it - Finland. Read to the bottom to learn more.

    Finlandia is near local shopping, dining, grocery, and watersports. And of course, Finlandia is just steps away from one of the nicest (and widest) beaches on Hatteras Island, giving you access to endless beach days during your stay! Finlandia is also located about 1 mile north of the Avon Pier.

    Inside Finlandia, you'll be greeted by an open living area complete with a flat-screen Smart TV and seating for the whole crew. When it's time for meals, the kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals during your stay including stainless steel appliances, a stocked kitchen, and both traditional and Keurig coffee makers. With breakfast bar seating for 4 along with a flip top table inside with additional seating.

    Even better? Take advantage the beautiful Hatteras Island weather and dine on the large private sundeck at the picnic table with seating for 6! The entire deck is NEW for 2026 and has ample seating.

    At Finlandia, each bedroom is perfect for you to relax and unwind after a fun-filled day on the Outer Banks. Additional amenities at Finlandia include an electric Blackstone grill, outdoor shower, fish cleaning table, park style grill, Nest thermostat, and high-speed WiFi provided by Silicon Travel with concierge service.

    A little history:

    All beams for the home were manufactured in Kokkola, Finland by a company named Bothniahouse. Bothniahouse was known for building log homes, still popular to this day in Finland. The logs made their way to the US and Finlandia was built on site in Avon. It reportedly may be the only home on the island like it.

    While the home has been updated, some of the original features and details remain. All inside walls and ceilings are the original wood beams, In the back bedroom, you will even see the back of a stone fireplace that was at one time a centerpiece of the home. The laundry room was at one time a sauna room. If you look closely outside the home above the main door area, you will still see an exposed beam that has the original stamp from Kokkola, Finland and Bothniahouse.

Great weekend getaway

This little cottage was perfect for our family and our sweet dog Millie. The homeowner was very quick to respond and was kind enough to check in during our stay via text. The cottage was very clean. We really enjoyed our stay!

Great experience!

We stayed at Finlandia for a week fishing and was a great experience. It was the perfect place to stay, close to everything and exceptionally clean. Great communication from the host. Just couldn't ask for anything more. Highly recommend!

Wonderful December Retreat

My best friend (over 50 years) and I spent 3 nights at this beautiful little cottage. The location is right off Route 12 and about a short block to the beach. The beach is absolutely beautiful - wide, clean, and wonderful! Definitely will be booking again in the future.

Quaint house near the beach

Everything was clean. Mattress was nice and didn't sink. Washer and dryer were very nice. Kitchen was spacious and packed with basics. Owner was great.

Relaxed on the beach

We were on the Outer Banks as a family with 2 dogs to spend a few relaxing days on the beach. The house is perfectly located for this, less than 5 minutes walk to the beach. Dogs were also allowed on the beach and you could go for a nice walk. Shopping facilities are also nearby and the house offers enough space. We particularly enjoyed sitting outside on the deck.

Cozy and peaceful

If you are considering staying at Finlandia, definitely book your stay. My husband and I stay for a few days here and it was better then we both imagined. Even though it was just the 2 of us with our dog it has enough space a family with kids. The owner made us feel very welcomed and was very easy to contact. We'll definitely be returning to Finlandia in the future!

Awesome Beach Cottage

Our family of 4 stayed at Ken's place and we loved everything about it. The cottage is completely updated, 5 min walk to the beach, it was very clean and equipped with everything we needed. 100% recommended. Will likely come back to this place in the future. Thanks for sharing Finlandia with us :-)

Charming beach cottage

Great location, close to shops and restaurants and 2 minute walk to the wide, open beautiful beach. Perfect spot for a couple or family with littles. Compact, one story once you’re on the deck keeps everyone together for easy monitoring of wee ones with back bedrooms to tuck them away during nap and bedtime. Large deck mostly private is great for morning coffee, reading, cocktails or dinner on the large picnic table. House is unique with cool history. Comfortable and clean. This was our second visit with our dog. We’d go back again.

Can’t beat this place!

Our family of six had a wonderful time at Finlandia. There was plenty of space for all of us, nicely decorated, VERY clean (best of all), private and a couple minute walk to the beach. It was also really nice to have extra toiletries, dishwasher detergent and laundry detergent. Most houses give you one of everything, this was an awesome thing not to have to buy when we got there. Communication with the owner was easy and always friendly. We would highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a really clean, comfortable and perfect stay in Avon.

We love Finlandia!

The first thing you’ll notice about this property is that the owner provides FIVE STAR service! You can tell he really loves this property and put so much love into the details. He really cares about his guests as well. He is so welcoming and makes check-in easy peasy! We had a cute little gift basket waiting for us when we walked in the door. This home is absolutely spotless! The beds, pillows, and furniture were all comfortable. It’s really a home away from home. I hope you enjoy this home as much as we did!

Great property! Wonderful trip!

We had an amazing time at Finlandia. Communication with the owner was great. The house is well appointed, clean and quite nice. The beds were comfortable, as was the entire property. Nice big deck for stargazing. The new electric griddle outside was very nice as well. It’s a short walk to a nice beach access with just a short walk over the dunes. Convenient to shops, restaurants and ice cream! We highly recommend Sunrise seafood market and Gidget’s pizza, as well as the Haulover day use area just south of town for a great sunset. We will definitely look to stay here again in the near future. Thank you for sharing Findlandia with us!

Finlandia was the perfect place to stay on Cape Hatteras

We took a chance on Finlandia as a newer posting, knowing that it was a location (Cape Hatteras) that we had always wanted to visit & that it was dog-friendly. This charming cottage is right off the main highway & located directly behind another cottage. It readily accommodated all of our needs, with stores & restaurants not too far up the road. The best surprise was the huge beach area right up the street where we walked our dog every morning. A few things to note: the cottage is only accessible by stairs so this may be a challenge for some. Also, bring in your own coffee & spices or other items that you may want to cook with. There are both a regular percolator coffeemaker & a keurig available. We truly enjoyed our visit & thought this was a wonderful place for us to stay.
