This beautiful renovated Nantucket inspired cottage in Surfmans Walk is nestled in the maritime forest, just a short East Beach, the most popular beach on BHI. It is also a short walk (and even shorter golf cart ride) to Shoals Club, The Commons Park, Bald Head Island Conservancy and miles of biking, hiking and walking trails. Your hosts, Catherine and Brian, make sure you have everything you need to have a beautiful beach vacation.

The two screened porches and tree-canopied patio with fresh salt air and the sounds of soothing surf in the distance offer a perfect backdrop to read, drink a glass of wine, cook out, have your morning coffee and relax with family. The back screened porch has a beautiful swinging bed and directly accesses a boardwalk complete with ancient oaks, Spanish moss and a community gazebo. Outdoor deck is outfitted with gas grill and comfortable seating. Al fresco dining is available in the screened-in porch and the deck.

This house provides extra privacy as each bedroom has it’s own bathroom and smart TV. There are two bedrooms in the main house. The master bedroom has a king bed. The other bedroom in the main house has 3 twin beds (2 twins and a trundle). There is also a detached tree-house style guest cottage over the garage, which provides extra privacy with a queen-sized bed, smart TV and ensuite full bathroom. The crofter being detached from the house gives the guests added privacy and quiet.

Cottage is well stocked with all the comforts of a relaxing beach vacation—WiFi, 2 golf carts (6-person and 4-person), heated outdoor shower, 6 beach chairs, 4 cruiser bikes, cooler, bed linens, bath towels, beach towels, beach umbrellas, sand toys, boogie boards, surf board, board games, books, puzzles, portable high chair, pack n’ play crib, Keurig and regular coffee makers, blender, crock pot and fully stocked kitchen. Bike helmets are not provided. Bike pump is in the garage.

Weekly rentals are Saturday-Saturday in summer. We will entertain shorter stays outside of the high season. Message me to discuss.

Our house has the option to purchase temporary memberships at Shoals Club (pool/restaurant/beach access/fitness center) AND Bald Head Island Club (golf/tennis/pool/restaurant/croquet/fitness center). Not all homes have access to both clubs. Shoals Club is closest to the house (5 minute walk), oceanfront and offers pools, dining, bars, fitness center and beach access. Bald Head Island club offers golf, tennis, croquet, dining, pools, park and water slide. Both clubs offer beautiful views and excellent food. Photos of the clubs are included in the pictures for our house.

If playing golf on vacation is important to you, then you need to rent a house that provides the option for a golf membership to BHI Club. This house provides this option.

Another benefit of our house is having 2 golf carts—4-person and 6-person. 2 carts enable groups to separate for the many different activities the island has to offer.

Amazing restaurants, a spa, and a fully stocked market are minutes away from this quintessential Bald Head beach cottage.

Load and start the dishwasher
Gather used towels
Remove personal items, remove leftover food and drinks and take out the rubbish
Turn off the lights, lock the doors and return the keys
• Be out of the house by 10:00 am on checkout day. • Load and run dishwasher. • Wash, dry and fold BEACH TOWELS. • Leave beds made up. • Gather towels in bathroom floor.
• Throw away or pack all food items. • Take out trash. • Put ‘yes’ sign on front of garage for garbage pick-up. • Park both golf carts in garage, plug them in to charge, close and lock garage doors.
• Leave golf cart keys on the key rack in kitchen. • Lock all doors (front porch, back porch, crofter, garage). • Put at least one house key back in lock box.
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.

Great weekend away!

We had a wonderful stay here in early May! The house is in the perfect spot to be close to some great beaches and it is an adorable location that feels like a private oasis. We enjoyed the amenities provided which include bikes and golf karts and communication with the hosts was seamless. They were so kind to offer a late check out on our last day so we could enjoy our time a little longer! We will be coming back!

Lovely cottage tucked away in the woods.

This cottage was perfect for us! Cozy and quiet, but near enough to the beaches and club that it didn't feel remote. Everything was as described. I especially loved the daybed swing on the porch!

Another wonderful vacation!

We have stayed at "Our Happy Place" twice now, and both times were absolutely perfect. Catherine is a wonderful host and is so attentive and responsive to her guests. She has thought of everything you could possibly need during your stay...bikes, beach chairs, umbrellas, beach towels, and even phone chargers! The house is in great shape and the kitchen is very well stocked. It's a very easy and beautiful walk to East Beach (best beach on the island)...or of course, you could bike or drive one of the golf carts. The proximity of the property to the beach makes it very convenient to return for lunch, etc. We will definitely be returning to Catherine's place and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing, stress-free vacation on Bald Head Island.

Wonderful home and hosts

Catherine and her husband were wonderful and generous hosts. They left us a bottle of wine when we arrived and were super nice when we got a flat tire on one of the golf carts. They were incredibly responsive and kind. And the home itself was clean, cozy, and lovely. Highly recommend and I would re-book here! My one minor note is that several of the lights didn't work, e.g. the bench light switch didn't work, and several of the lamps. I would *strongly* recommend using the soft white light bulbs and not the harsh white daylight light bulbs that were used in some places, the inconsistency in light color impacted the overall warm feel of the house.

Great time at BHI

We had a very nice time staying at Catherine’s place on BHI. The location near East beach is great which has the best branch area and water. The house is comfortable and has a third bedroom above the garage. The kitchen is well equipped, beds comfortable, and has Wi-Fi and cable. Outside you have 2 golf carts, 5 bikes including an electric tire pump, beach chairs, boogie boards, etc. We also used the gas grill to cook some Impossible. burgers. Catherine is also very responsive if you have any questions or needs. In summary, Ga GA’s gift is a great place to stay to enjoy beautiful Bald Head Island.

Nice, Relaxing Place to Spend Time

This is a very nice house in a great location. It is tucked into a woodsy part of the island where you can walk, run, or bicycle in the shade at any time of the day. It is a quick golf cart ride to several spots on the beach. There are chairs, umbrellas, and toys available to take with you, and if you're luck, you may find a sea turtle nest ready to hatch. Once you are ready to come back home, there is a raised wooden walk leading through the wooded property with a nice seating area and an outdoor shower below the private garage bedroom and bath. Inside the main house is a nice kitchen/dining area with plenty of equipment for cooking and preparing drinks. The living room is perfect for gathering with your party for conversation, playing games or streaming movies on the large TV. There are also 2 screened porches if you'd rather be outside. The other two bedrooms and bathrooms are upstairs along with the laundry area. We really enjoyed our time here. It was perfect for our family.

Forest haven

Catherine’s home was the perfect spot for a family vacation with 2 toddlers. Close enough to the most beautiful beach on the island to run back when we forgot something, or to take the bikes instead of a golf cart. Located in the thick jungle-like maritime forest, offering shade and peace in between beach trips. The back entrance of the house leads out onto a maze of boardwalk paths through the forest. Everything in the house worked as described, and Catherine generously arranged (and paid for) extra rental bikes for us when hers went missing. The house is well-equipped with games, beach toys, boogie boards, etc… We did not end up using the crofter, but fit 2 families of 3 comfortably in the main house. The turtle conservancy headquarters is around the corner- there is a sandwich and Italian ice window there. The shoals club down the street offers several dining options, 2 pools, and beach umbrella/chair service. Catherine was very responsive and helpful with the reservation and any issues that came up during our visit. Highly recommend - hope to be back in paradise soon!

Excellent stay, very comfortable place (beds, couches, hanging couch on the back porch, etc.) with decorations that are on point. Very clean and having a washer/dryer proved very convenient along with a well equipped kitchen. Catherine & Brian were excellent hosts and made everything seamless. We enjoyed the provided bikes and having 2 golf carts was perfect for our family. We have stayed at many different places on BHI and will certainly come back to this place.

Our family of 4 loved the week at this Bald Head Island property. Friendly host and easy check-in made us feel welcome. Perfect vacation at GaGa's Gift

Our family had the perfect BHI vacation at this beautiful cottage. Catherine was an attentive and kind host. Her cottage was beautifully decorated, both inside and outside, with great amenities, all set in the lush Cape Fear Station neighborhood. The furniture and bedding were very comfortable, and the house was clean. One morning a large buck walked right up to the screened in porch as we drank our coffee while swinging on the comfy back porch bed swing. She provided beach towels, beach chairs, umbrellas, bikes, etc. which greatly helped in not having to bring all that over on the ferry. I highly recommend this lovely piece of paradise for a BHI vacation.

Wonderful Stay!

My family and I had a wonderful stay at Ga-GA’s Gift. The house is very comfortable and has a great set up. There was a fun assortment of games that my kids enjoyed playing. Kitchen is well appointed. Beds are cozy. We love the location and being near East Beach and the Shoals Club. We would rent here again for sure!

Wonderful 2 weeks in BHI

We had a wonderful 2 week stay at Gaga’s gift. We stayed with our family of 4 (two teens) and my parents. We loved the location and the property. It is close to Shoal’s, Mike’s Bites and East beach. The home was well appointed for cooking, which was great for us! We loved to spend time swinging on the back porch. It is also so helpful that there were two reliable carts, AND working bikes! We would totally stay again, and we are grateful that Catherine shared her home with us!
