Quiet and serene yet conveniently close to the area's most beloved attractions, this comfortable mountain cottage is a place to experience the best of Banner Elk. In the winter, you'll be ideally located for sledding, tubing, and skiing at Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain; come summer, you'll enjoy world-class hiking and mountain biking, great breweries and wineries, as well as nearby festivals and concerts.

Cook up a big meal in the fully-equipped kitchen, or grill on the deck for dining al fresco. Relax after a day of fun on the covered patio or the spacious deck, and really elevate your vacation by soaking in the private hot tub. You will love this home with a cozy fireplace, and a gorgeous sitting room with stone walls.

There are so many area attractions you will never run out of fun things to do. From anywhere to half a mile to four miles drive you can visit any of the local wineries and breweries, go hiking, sledding, skiing, and tubing, horseback riding, or explore the gem mines, museums, and don't forget all the great restaurants and local shops.

Great View

This was our second stay at the Potato House. The location and view is great. The house was very clean. The landscaping needs to be cleaned up, everything is overgrown. The deck was lovely to sit out on any time of the day.

Good value rental

For the cost of what we paid for the rental, it was fantastic. It has 2 great outdoor spaces, with a top and lower deck. It is small, but enough space for what we needed. It needs a few simple things, that I noticed others mention, like more towels. We are 60 guest and had to maneuver to get up the outdoor steps and to get in to the high ledge bath tub/showers. We found the furniture and beds comfortable. The kitchen had just about anything you could use, but a big pot to boil spaghetti. We never figured out how to turn the TV's on in the bedrooms, but that could have just been us?!

Accurately priced, but tired.

While we thought the home was accurately priced, the amenities were lacking. The Potato house is missing the creature comforts we book VRBO's over hotels for—no where to sit comfortably, everything is very dated and worn out from the pots/pans, to the outdoor chair pillows to the couches—it felt like being in a dorm, where just the basics were covered. The structure of the home is beautiful so it's a shame other elements of a comfortable rental were missed. Even the welcome book has outdated info and conflicting directions to local trails, etc. The one positive was that it was very clean. All of that said, we would not stay here again.

Great weekend get away

We had a great weekend vacation at the Potato house. It was very clean and ready for us when we arrived. The wifi was a little quirky but it did work. The heated bathroom floors was a nice feature, the ladies really loved that. All in all it was a quiet restful weekend and we enjoyed the stay there, would definitely stay at the Potato House again.

Sweet and cozy and at one with nature

So happy with this choice (I had saved about 14 options), it was just delightful for two people. Quiet, comfortable, nice deck with a lovely view. Our first day was rainy and we were still treated to sitting on the covered deck. Some time we’ll be back and walk the trails. I was sad to leave.

It was an absolute pleasure to stay at the Potatoe House. Went to see snow and relax and it did not disappoint. The house was perfectly set up for check-in, had everything you need for a stay. But the views were worth more than anything I can say. Thank you again.

Not an accurate listing

This was a first “girls trip” for my mom, sister, and myself. We recently lost my father, and wanted to get away. The only “must have” for us was a hot tub. The listing included a working hot tub when I made the reservation. After I paid in full I realized that the post was changed saying the hot tub did not work. I called to address the issue prior to our trip. I was told that the hot tub had been fixed. We get there and the hot tub doesn’t work. The TV’s in both bedrooms were also inoperable. I sent messages over a 2 hour time frame the day of check in. I called the number provided the next day to report the issues. I was told that I would receive a call back. That call never came. Upon returning to the cabin the next day I observed 2 young men sitting at the table outside by the hot tub. When I pulled in they jumped up and said they were there to work on the hot tub bc it had a leak. Within 5 minutes they left and the hot tub was still inoperable. The price of this cabin is too high for the amenities that you receive.

The Potato house is a charming but modern cabin with beautiful wood decor and decorative lighting The views are beautiful. The property manager was helpful and prompt with small issue of batteries for remote. The neighborhood is very quiet. It was a very restful stay.

Perfect honeymoon getaway

My husband and I booked the potato house for our honeymoon and it was exactly what was described online! It was so peaceful but close enough to do things without being in the middle of downtown. The communication was excellent with marjy and John! We look forward to renting it again!

Beautiful property! We really enjoyed walking the property and how quiet the area was!

Renting was not complicated at all, nor was checking in. This property was great for us since we are an older couple with a small cattle farm. The pasture land reminded us of home and we throughly loved walking the trails across the road and behind the house.

We absolutely love the house, the location, the views, and the hot tub. The appliances could use a little upgrade—the mold in the washing machine made me uncomfortable and the dishwasher leaked when we tried to use it. More than 4 bath towels (we had 4 people staying for 4 nights) and a dish towel would have been helpful.

Mountain Getaway

Wanted to be in the mountains with a jacuzzi! Was wonderful! Great amenities and reasonably clean. Rugs need cleaning, otherwise just throw a towel down. Some of the kitchenware can be replaced and some spring dusting is in need. We had a really great visit!
