Eerie up a dark staircase.
In view of the fact the room is on the 4th floor it would have helped to know there was no lift and the lighting up the stairs was not working. Precipitous to say the least! Have to be particularly tiny to fit in the smallest shower in the world! However the position was excellent.

Did not like not having at least small lift for luggage. Noisy travellers who kept slamming doors late at nights without a care for others visitors in the next rooms. Lovely old style building close to everything and all the action.

Bad experience
Had a bad experience with this booking. The check in office is far from the location so when you have a problem there’s no one available to help you at site. After checking in and going back to our room when opening our room door we get surprised by a messy room with someone else’s belongings, they never checked the room was clean and empty before assigning it to us. It was late, we had arrived from a long day of travel with my 11 year old son and we didn’t have a room to rest, by the time management sent someone to resolve our issue it was almost midnight! The room that was originally assigned to us or the replacement room were not even close to what was show on the pictures that were shown on your site, we were expecting a decent $70 room and we were given a $30 dollar pension room for the same price. The pictures are deceiving, you don’t get what they advertise. They can charge what ever they want for their rooms but you expect to get what you see on Hotels.com, a decent room with a twin bed (shown on the posting on your site) and we ended sleeping on two tiny really uncomfortable beds. The icing on top was that my son had several bites in his legs that looked like flea bites the next day. I think I deserve a refund. I have pictures as proof but tried to upload them several times without success.

Great location. No staff available on locaton. Had to walk 6 blocks away to pick up key and then return to room. No elevator and even though site says rooms on 3rd floor they are on the 5th floor. Would explore other options.

Great location, and surprisingly quiet considering it’s on La Rambla. It’s a 2 star place, no more, no less. You have to pick up the keys from about 1-2km away, which may be painful if you have luggage

The absolute best location, close to everything from tours, food, shows, souvenirs and atmosphere. The downside and no I'm not referring to the stairs, or the room itself......the property needs to be fixed up a little. The 3rd toilet needs to be available. They need a seating and dining area and kitchen (not as stated on site). There is NO KITCHEN. fix these small things and it would be 5 star

Amazing stay
An amazing stay in a beautiful room. We got upgraded to a suite when we arrived and our room was stunning. Brilliant location, easy walking distance to some greats bars and cafes. The street art of display around the hotel is also fantastic

Not a good place for families or people with heavy luggage. No elevator so we had to drag our luggage up the 4 flights of stairs. There was no hairdryer. No air conditioning- only a small oscillating fan that only provided slight relief from heat. No bathroom in our room. On the floor were 2 bathrooms, but the shower in 1 was out of order. People in other room across from ours were smoking weed and cigarettes which made our room smell horrible. There was free wi-fi as advertised and a small room on our floor with a refrigerator and microwave.

After five days this was my experience Pros - location in Las Ramblas - provides a fan for the hot weather Cons - Was told it was located on the third floor but was actually on the fifth, with no elevator and bad lighting on the stairs - the building was older and looked neglected and not properly taken care of - the mattress was terrible,it was obviously old , overused and dented so we could not rest properly. The bed was also too small for a double bed - too expensive for what was offered - very different from the photos provided

Location is awesome, everything else is ok at best
The hotel itself is situated at the heart of the city. It is just a stone's throw away from plaza catalunya and it's literally in Las Ramblas. Outside the door of the building is the bus stop for bus 59 and V13. Location wise, this is perfect. With regards to looking for the exact place is another story. If we haven't read the reviews about the hotel, there's no way for us to find the door. There are no signs anywhere. The door is just between Restaurant Nuria and H&M. Then, it's a considerable climb to the room itself. Again, if I didn't knew about it before booking, I'd probably complain but since I already knew that it's a long flight of stairs, then it's ok. The room is basic but if you are spending the whole day outside, the room is ok. Will I stay here again if I get a chance to go back to Barcelona. Probably not though.

do not even attempt hotel as 102 very steep steps
I would not recommend this hotel/hostel. Especially if you have any difficulty with mobility, there is 102 very steep steps in a dark stair well, no one answered the bell at the front door, so I had to climb. totally impractical, no lift, no ground floor access to leave luggage, no one to speak to, manager did not offer help. I was unable to get a refund for a room we were unable to access. I then experienced unpleasant dealings with Expedia to get any of my money back.

Loved it!
Experience was great, could not be a better location and view from our balcony, very chill however also really clean and warm water and a lil kitchen which was so cute. A bit of a trek walking up the stairs but other than that it was really good!

Street noise very loud, cold drinks machine available but broken during my stay. Always a smile from the friendly staff.You need to climb a lot of stairs, I needed to pause twice on the climb up, but I was pleased to have the workout.

The location was awesome. Other than location, everything was so BAD. The details shows that the room was located at 3rd floor where we thought we can manage it without elevator. When we reach the place, it was located at 6th floor! The place was old and they got loads of dusts on its bed, floor and desk.

VERY dirty, unhygienic and unfriendly staffs!
This was our second time in Barcelona. We chose Barcelona City Ramblas - Pensión Canaletas as it seemed very close to the city centre. We were told by Expedia to get to the hotel for 6:00 pm (BCN time) for check in. We rushed and was there just after 5:00 pm (BCN time). Once we got there we rang the bell many times and knocked on the door, however no one opened the door. So I rang the hotel's head office and spoke to Mario. He apologised and said someone will be there to let us in ASAP. We had to wait on the stairs for almost an hour before a lady showed up to let us in. The lady didnt seem apologetic for the fact we were made to wait on the stairs for almost an hour. She took copies of our passport and city tax, and hurriedly left without even giving us an orientation of the hotel or the wifi password. Once we got to our room, we realised it was extremely small with very dirty walls, cracked dirty floor, very uncomfortable dirty beds with stained bedsheets on them. Two of the toilets were out of order, and the only functioning one was very dirty and unuseable. We were left speechless and shocked at the way we were treated by the hotel staffs and the inhabitable conditions of the hotel. We contacted the hotel's head office and Expedia immidiately, and decided to leave. I emailed the hotel several times for a refund, however up until now I still have not heard back. After my horrendous experience I definitely won't recommend this hotel to ANYONE!!

Great Location, room no so great.
The location was great. there is a refrigerator and microwave on a common area. I cant remember the name of the attendant but he was great, extremely helpful. However, there is no elevator and one has to go up quite a few stairs to get to the room. There was only one bathroom-shower for all the rooms. It was hot and there is no air conditioning. I had a table fan but did not work. I had to kill a big roach the last day of my stay.

Poorly maintained facilities, noisy nights, 102 steps in narrow staircase. That the room did not come with a private bathroom like normal hotel rooms was not clear to me until shortly before the stay, when I read the confirmation letter again. Three shared bathrooms might have worked, but one was out of order during our entirely 4-night stay = not good enough!

Great location!! The rest not so great
Location was the best anyone could have asked for. The rest, however, was not so great. The room overall was not great, 5th floor no elevator, old place, our fan didn't work and bad sound proofing. Service was bad, had to call the manager to come check us in when we got there. But our room was made each day. Wifi was slow, had to be near the router to get reception.

Worst night ever
The location is right on Las Ramblas street, No sign of the hotel whatsoever. The hotel is on the 5th floor with no elevator. When you finally get there, There is no reception, you have to go to another Hotel to get the room keys, 20 minutes away walking distance. No Air conditioning, it was very, very hot on a not so hot day in Barcelona. If you open the window to a small balcony you will receive the hot exhaust from nearby restaurants exhaust hoods. I would not recommend this hotel to anybody. Could not sleep, I would have rather rested on an Airport chair.

After 6 pm you have to go to another location to check in n get ur keys (But in fact i never saw a receptionist on site at all). About 15-20 min walking with suitcases or 10 euro on taxi. So the guy there, Adrian, gave us the wrong key - i kinda imagined walking night Barcelona without my suitcases, and we had to do it twice. Also gave us wrong wifi network name. The hotel does not have elevator ( 102 stair steps-i counted), or air conditioner, but has fans. Has a community kitchen w fridge n microwave. The room itself was clean, very new and nice bathroom. My overall rating would've been better if the receptionist did his job correctly. Location s good.

Relaxing stay on a busy street
The small quite room on Las Ramblas was a perfect place to rest up after a long day. It's location can't get any better. The metro is across the street and it's close to night life and shopping. Bedding was old, cheap and worn; but that didn't bother me. The hallway smelled of sulfur/rotten eggs. The showers were always clean and had no standing water; there were plenty of showers and toilets for the amount of rooms. The hallway between the rooms smelled of sulfur/rotten eggs, but I got used to it. Few complaints: if you arrive later than 6pm (18:00) you have to check in at their other hotel which IS NOT a short ten minute walk away. Especially if you are fresh off a flight and carrying heavy luggage. Last problem was that it was about 8-9 floors up and there was no elevator, which typically isn't too bad except there was ZERO lighting on these stairs. Bring a flash light and don't trip and fall.

This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. I immediately checked out and moved to a different hotel, even though I knew I wouldn't get any refund. The hotel's entrance is tiny and it's on the 5th floor (Hotel.com listed it to be on the 3rd floor but it's actually on the 5th). There is no elevator, so you have to take stairs and they're very dark to the extent that it was hard to see anything around - it was around 2pm on a sunny day. A waiter working at the restaurant right next door did not know the existence of this hotel. I felt it wasn't safe to stay there. It took me a while to learn how to lock my bedroom door. You have to pull the door with optimal strength and not push the key while turning it twice. You have to do this every time you go to the bathroom, which is shared. The towel smelled of a mop. The room felt like a prison, with a single window facing inward of the building with pipes and stuff. They do have free Wifi, so at least you can book another hotel while still in your bedroom.

Terrible Experience. Don´t Be Fooled By Location.
Here a list of things my wife and I experienced. Not even when backpacking in hostels did I get this. -No staff to open the door after 6pm. It took me 45 minutes to walk to their office and back with a key. -I was told a staff member was at the place daily from 8am to 6pm. Only once did I see a person who had to be called up by a new guest to bring in her keys. -I was told rooms were done daily. Only 2 out of 5 days my beds were done. Towels, sheets and others never changed. -Only 3 toilets: 1 out of service, 1 available if you wanted to step in a wet floor, and 1 functional not so clean. Only 2 showers, not so clean either. -The room door and window did not have a handle to pull. I had to use the door key to pull when locking, and the grab of my fingers to slide the window door. -Not in the 3rd floor as advertised, even considering European numbering, I was carrying up and down bags 5 floors in a tiny dark stair. -With no staff personnel to supervise, we beared a singing couple playing load music all night until down, and for entertainment a man walking to/from the showers just wearing a towel. -No air conditioned and with closed window to avoid the heavy noise of Las Ramblas, try not to be bothered by hot weather. Instead of more details... Final point: Price vs. Value. We paid as much as we have for 4 start hotels in other seasons. Even in peak season and booking just a couple of days in advance should not justify such a bad place.

Very dificult. You need to going up to fiith floor with your luggage by stairs. Do not have elevators. Its old building. Its near Plaza Catalunya at Ramblas, but need elevator.

HORRENDOUS DO NOT STAY HERE
Absolutely awful - arrived and had to get to climb 10 flights of stairs we arrived at the door - something off a horror movie knocked numerous times no answer rung the number on the door and had to then travel all the way to the other side of Barcelona for the key just to get into the hotel!!!!! Not prior warning of this and no compensation!!!!!!!! I am a frequent traveller and this is without doubt the worse hotel experience of my life. Sheets stained showers in an awful condition and staff incredibly rude taking no respobisilblity for such a poor service. SHOCKING DO NOT STAY HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!!!!!!!!

Pesimo, es una verguenza que hoteles.com pemita que haya ese tipo de locales de alojamiento. Ademas es un robo el precio que cobraron por algo que no vale la pena ni entrar, peor alojarse. No utilice las 3 noches de alojamiento que pague 447 euros, ya que por el precio pense que era algo mejor.

We arrived to a room with dirty beds, called the reception who couldn't help us with cleaning, new room or moving to another hotel. We found a hotel on our own and asked for a refund from City Ramblas through hotels.com. The receptionist fabricated a story that we can disprove with recordings and written communication and she refused to reimburse us the money. The room was of course available for other guests the very next day in the middle of Barcelona, so they got potentially double paid for half the job. Hotels.com on the other hand gave us a partial refund and were fair and professional as always.
