In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, travelling now comes with a few extra challenges. Take a look at these valuable tips before hopping on your flight to Bay of Plenty:

• Look into what rules and restrictions apply to both your origin and destination. You may not be able to travel depending on local circumstances, so remember to check before you book.
• When you pass through airport checkpoints, do not remove your face mask. You will be asked to briefly lower it to verify your identity. Travellers who refuse to wear a mask may face civil penalties and may also be escorted from the terminal.
• Instead of handing a TSA agent your boarding pass, position it straight on the reader yourself. Once that's done, hold it up for inspection.
• You're allowed to take one container of hand sanitizer up to 12 oz (350 ml) in your carry-on luggage. This will need to be removed for X-ray scanning.
• Place any personal items (phone, keys and wallet) in your carry-on rather than a bin to minimize handling during screening.
• Transport any food items in a clear plastic bag and also put them in a screening bin. Keeping your food separate from your carry-on makes it less likely that a TSA employee will need to touch and open your bag for inspection.
