A dreadful experience.
Arriving at Hotel Benn after 22.00 due to a flight delay of 90 minutes leaving Manchester, and not being able to get a signal on our phone, the driver who took us to the hotel tried calling only to get a recorded message that reception was now closed. We rang the bell several times and knocked on both doors but no one answered. Cold, dark, in a strange country and beginning to rain we were left on the doorstep with nowhere to go. Both in our 70s and my husband being disabled, no consideration was made as to where we might spend the night. The following morning the hotelier was less than polite or apologetic quoting his rights as to the time we should have been there.He was able to tell us that we arrived at 23.00 (in fact we don’t think it was that late!) so he must have known we were there. Surely someone must have been on the premises in case of an emergency. Not once in our three night stay for which we had paid for four nights did he ask where we had spent the Monday night nor did he offer any compensation. Thus we had three nights for the price of four - a good selling feature! I appreciate his rules but felt angry at the treatment we received. Had I been a pregnant virgin on a wee donkey I am sure he would have still left us in the gutter. His attitude spoilt our stay in Berlin as we couldn’t get out of our minds his unfriendliness. I wish him a Merry Christmas!

Dear guests, it is always easy to blame others even if maybe you make the mistakes on your own. The closing times of the reception are described on Expedia detailed and not hidden, so normally you have a good chance to plan your trip easy, even the flights. There were 3 ways to leave Manchester ( direction Berlin ) on a monday: 6:50 / 13:45/ 17:30 , your decision was to take the latest flight arriving at 20:25 in Berlin. If there are no delays you can reach the hotel during the normal opening times ( till 10 pm ). You must have been very unlucky if you had no chance to send a short mail from Manchester ( no signal as well ??? ) during your 90 min. delay, letting us now that there is a delay. If we had known there would be a delay we would have waited. According to your call ( incoming calls were noticed by the answering machine) we know the appr. time and knowing the normal arrival time at 20:25 adding 90 min. delay, getting the luggage and taking a taxi, then 23:00 is realistic. We contacted you before your arrival asking about the vaccination, this would be another chance for you to check the times. Why should we offer any compensation? Our staff waited till 10:15 pm, no arrival, no message , so we closed the hotel. Your comparison is a bit weird even in this strange times. Due to both reviews the Christmas wishes cannot be meant honestly, am I right? Best regards

The staff are very nice and helpful! Breakfast is very nice with lots of selection, cheese, ham, bread, cereals, fruit and yogurt etc. It would be better if a kettle with tea and coffee are provided.

Perfect
A very convenient location for the outdoor music arena. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Very clean and nice and quiet street. Highly recommended and hopefully I will have a reason to come back. Missed breakfast as I had such a good nights sleep.

I thought Hotel Benn was really good. Very friendly and helpful staff, a good breakfast and the room was clean. Everything you might expect from a family run hotel, especially good at Christmas with the Weinachtsmart on your doorstep. Plus travel wise, Potsdammer Platz was only 15 minutes ride from the train station which is amazingly convenient for tourists wanting to get across the city.

Lovely hotel, in a quiet but convenient location.
We stayed at Hotel Benn for the Berlin Marathon. The hotel is some distance from the city centre, but ideally located close to a metro with direct links to the city as well as the main train station. The area of Spandau itself is lovely with great food nearby. The hotel staff were incredibly accommodating and always checked we had everything we needed. The rooms were clean with comfortable beds. The only slight negative was that our bathroom was compact. Otherwise, no complaints and highly recommended.

Perfect Little Getaway

A nice stay in Spandau after a concert
A hotel with a good quality/price ratio! I had a clean and comfortable room (it was a bit weird that the shower was situated basically inside the room, but it caused no problem), sound insulation was also good, I could have a good sleep. Breakfast is great! I loved the fruits, berries which were served with the cereals. The key system was strange at the first sight, I had to learn how to open the front doors of the hotel (no problem with the room door), as it was not straightforward at all. However, after you get used to it, it is easy.

The stay was good. But they charge extra money by saying some sort of tax which I believe I paid everything earlier. I don't know why that charges this. room was also small. there was no lift which is really bad in the hotel part.

Old-style hotel in Spandau, Berlin
Very friendly staff, clean and close to public transport. Breakfast buffet has a lot of choice. As the building is a very old 'Fachwerkhaus' built in the 1800s the speaking floorboards add to the charm.

centrally located family hotel
I have been here before, and liked everything about the hotel. Best location in central Spandau. Clean, quiet and safe location in a cul de sac bordering the main shopping district. In-door parking in a close by garage only E4,00/day, with in- and out priviledge. Can't beat that in Berlin. When booking the room you have 2 options, no bathroom (which is considerable cheaper), with common shower and WC across the floor, or private bathroom within your suite. Last time I had a room with a spacey bathroom. This time I booked the same category and they assigned me a room which had a sink in the bedroom, and a rather small wall-cabinet with a WC and a shower, separated from the sleeping area with a saloon-style semi-transparent acrylic door. This version of a private bathroom was rather inconvenient. I learned that you have to call the hotel at the time of the reservation to state your preference for your bathroom-option. Unfortunately there is no option during online-reservation available, but it pays off to invest in that phone-call. Other than that this is still a great hotel, owner operated, super friendly service, and an outstanding breakfast.

Couldn't have asked for more
Situated in the romantic borough of 'Alt Spandau' (with timbered houses and cobble stone streets) this small and unpretending family run hotel exceeded all my expectations. Attention to detail is obviously the motto that the friendly owner and his wife have chosen. They made me and my fiancee truly welcome and they really couldn't have done more. This is a place I definitely want to come back to. Lovely buffet breakfast as well - all at a price that cannot possibly be beaten. When there don't forget to visit the 'Nikolai Kirche' and the 'Zitadelle'. Easy travel to Tegel Airport (approximately 30min on public transport).

Lovely little hotel
Such a nice stay. The staff were wonderful and helpful. In a nice, quiet location. Maybe needs a little modernising here and there but not a major issue for us. My only suggestion is including tea and coffee making facilities in the room - us Brits like a cuppa when we arrive!

A very nice place to stay in Spandau
A very nice hotel, run by very nice, helpful people. Only real drawback was the shared bathroom, though in practice this wasn't much a problem. We knew before booking that the bathroom was shared, so this wasn't a surprise.

Lovely Little Hotel
I stayed here for one night. I arrived a lot earlier than I had planned, about midday. I didn't expect to be permitted to check in so early but the staff were like "no problem". In fact all the staff were really polite, helpful and professional. It is a small hotel in the centre of Spandau which is a small town on the edge of Berlin. The hotel rooms are very clean and comfortable. There was also a free bottle of water and a refrigerator in the room, which in the Berlin Summer heat was very welcome. The breakfast was awesome. Typical German cold buffet but with even more choice than usual. Charming Hotel in the old section of Berlin-Spanda
Good location with shopping and pubs in walking distance. Good breakfast and friendly people. There was a problem with the parking lot entrance card, so I had to pay double for a couple of days. No big deal, only 3.50 Euros/day. Strangely, owner wouldn't give refund since I prepaid cash. Couldn't follow that logic, but overall still recommend this Hotel.

The bathroom is not in the room, but this is not an issue. The location is in the old town of Spandau and very convenient for the Metro/Tube. The hotel owners were very pleasant and the breakfast excellent! Will definitely stay again.

Nice Hotel
Nice hotel away from city center. There are smoking and no smoking rooms if you mind smoking then this will not be a Hotel for you. Breakfast is excellent. As i wrote Hotel Benn is at Berlin suburb and price reflects that, great for budget traveler.

A Hidden Gem in Berlin!
This was my first time in Berlin. I picked this hotel because it was inexpensive and had wifi and free breakfast. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised! The 19th century building of the hotel had been nicely remodeled. Our room was not very big, but it was very clean and nice. It had a small TV, a safe and a sink. The shared bathroom was in the hallway and it was very clean as well. It felt like we were the only ones in the hotel, as we never heard any noise whatsoever! The breakfast was out of this world! My friend and I loved the selections very much. I must say, the breakfast alone was worth the price of this hotel! I am not exaggerating! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I hope someday, I get a chance to come back and stay in this small but lovely hotel.

I had a great time staying at Hotel Benn. The staff was very friendly, the place was clean and tidy and the breakfast was very satisfying. My favourite thing would be the mattress which was possibly one of the most comfortable ones I have ever tried.

Best of Berlin
Situated outside city but within an 8 minute walk to the train station. This hotel is perfectly placed in a quiet area. Parking is easy and the staff were very nice. My room was small but perfect for my needs. I stayed New Years Eve and got a little clover plant compliments of the hotel. When I returned from my escapade of the city at about 4 am I found two sweet pastries in my room. How sweet!? The breakfast was fantastic all served on matching china. This was an absolutely wonderful hidden treasure I will certainly return to when I visit Berlin again.

Based on previous positive reviews, I booked a room at Hotel Benn because it was close to where I needed to do some research. The hotel is in the heart of the Old City and very easy to get to. It is a 2 minute walk from a metro station. A 10 minute walk will take you to the main train station. Downtown Berlin is only about 15 minutes by train/metro. The free Internet worked very well, no bandwidth problems. The free breakfast had a broad range of choices and was delicious. The staff goes above and beyond in courtesy and helpfulness. The only downside was temperature control. There was no air conditioning. The hot daytime temperatures (mid 80s) cooled to pleasing (low 70s) in the evening, but even with a window open, there was little air flow. A ceiling fan would have gone a long way to address the situation. In spite of this, I slept well. You can pay much more for a hotel in Berlin. I would highly recommend staying at Hotel Benn and taking the train/metro/tram into town.

Hotel Benn in Spandau/Berlin -a pleasant surprise
We needed one evening in Berlin before we returned to the U.S. from our three tour of Europe. Little did we knw that one of our lst stays would be one ofour most pleasant. The location in one of Berlin's western suberbs is perfectly located near the subway and trains for quick trips to the city. Hotel Benn is loacted in a quiet yet appropriately buslting neighborhood. There were shared bathrooms, but the cleanliness and convenience by proximity nullified any possible negatives. The breakfast buffet was excellent. I would highly recommend this hotel. The owners clearly take personal pride in this porperty- and well they should,

Dear Guest,why doesn't this review surprise me? I can explain it, you called us on the arrival day with the information that you a not able to check in till 9 pm ( Which is the reception closing time and which cleary shown on all Expedia/Hotels.com pages ) you want to check-in at 11 pm which is definitely not possible because no one of the staff is here at this time.During the whole phone call you blamed us for this fact but it is not our mistake because we did not plan you schedules. After conctating the hotels.com staff we where so kind to cancel the first night free of charge and refunded this to you so that you could check in one day later ( normally there is no chance for a refund according to the guidelines ).But at least it is always the same, the Hotel is always the bad guy even it is all the guests mistake according to a bad planning.Best regards
