They gave us the worst possible room. It was a room with one flight of staircup, then one floor of stairs down with no elevators. When I noticed several empty rooms I asked if she could change the room and she said it will cost us extra 20,000 yens. We had two suitcases to carry up and then down and no help was offered. I expected a bit more for the price I paid. Meals were also just fine. The hot springs temperature is very hot. The open air bath was better. However when I visited in the morning I noticed holes in the wall. Unfortunately I would not recommend this location. If you already have a reservation, refuse any room from 121-130. They are the ones in the dungeon.

Perfect place to visit Shirahige waterfall and blue pond. Property is quite old, but clean and convenient. Food is also good. Staff is fine. There is a free shuttle bus to see blue pond illumination at 7:30 pm.

This Ryokan is actually quite nice, the Onsen and Outside Bath beautiful along the River and you cam hear waterfall nearby. They had unfortuntely a serious staff shortage prob due to Covid and one elderly lady was in charge of the total dinner service for 20-40 people. As such food was mostly coldy. The quality of the arrangement and presentation was what to expect from Kaiseki dinner.

Free shuttle bus service to the hotel from Asahikawa station. Walkable distance to Shirogane waterfall. They also provide free dinner and free shuttle bus to blue pond. Even though the staffs english are limited, they try their best to explain and understand. Great service. Their outdoor onsen is definitely the best to experience during winter time.

Nice place, a little aged.
Nice ryokan close to the Shigehira Falls, perfect view in winter. Room was a little old, wall paper peeling, stains on the wood but I think it’s from tourists who don’t know how to use Japanese items in the room. Don’t put wet glasses on the wood. Despite the aged look, the service was polite, the futon very comfortable and an excellent night of sleep. Staff warmed up when I spoke Japanese but despite living in Japan for over 20 years and speaking quite well, they treated me like a foreigner based on my looks. It was a little annoying but I’m used to it. The bath is very nice, the outdoor bath lovely with the snow. Well maintained onsen. Breakfast hall is small and often seating is limited. Go early.

Stayed for 1 night in early Oct as stopover from Asahikawa to Sapporo. Friendly staff. Really appreciated the shuttle bus service to and form Asahikawa JR station. Room clean & quiet for good rest. Onsen was good. 3 indoor & 1 outdoor pool + sauna - each for both for the female and male section. Hot spring water is milky and has a light scent of sulphur. Clean, well maintained. Little wonder why they won an award a few years ago. They should try and improve on the quality of dinner and breakfast. Kaiseki dinner - a scallop cooked over a earthen pot, lots of small dishes preserved veg, squid, etc that lack quality and appeared cheap. Breakfast - buffet style with typical Japanese offerings eg bite sized salmon fillet, tamago, greens, fruits etc. The dairy products were excellent as they used local Hokkaido brands which are naturally yummy. There is however little to offer for sight seeing at this place. The waterfall was okay but it really depends on which time of the year one visits. Like the blue pond, it can lack the wow factor. Other than these, there really isn't much else but it is nevertheless a pleasant location for an over-nighter. If you are looking for place around this hotel for a late lunch, there is only a simple family-run eatery next door that sells ramen and rice. Tried the cha-sis ramen and won't recommend it unless you are on emergency survival mode.. Overall, this ryokan is pleasant with its onsen punching above its weight.

Good hotel with 2 nearby attractions
Good onsen hotel but room was not well ventilated, had to open the small window for fresh air. Dinner that was included in the room rate was filling and breakfast was also satisfying. The facilities in the onsen were clean but wished the shampoo, conditioner and shower foam bottles could be clearly labelled. The hotel is in a good location; we enjoyed the Shirahige Waterfall which was just behind the hotel and the Blue Pond (less than 10 minutes drive away). No shopping nearby though.

mass market hotel that is reasonable priced
It is a very busy hotel with most tourists appearing to stay for 1 day for the blue pond and waterfall. Accordingly the dinner feels more like a mass feeding than a carefully crafted kaiseki. However the price is relatively cheap and fair for the services. Therefore overall good review.

Comfortable & affordable accomodation
It was pretty great. We were there to stay a night before heading off to Furano. Wanted to visit Lake Biei the next morning since it was pretty late when we reached there but turns out there was this winter illumination of the Lake going on. The hotel was kind enough to help arrange complimentary transport to the night illumination, the lake was frozen! It was really an affordable hotel to book, I think this hotel will have more guests during the summer/spring seasons as the Lake will have more variation in colour.

Nice Ryokan in a quiet town. I enjoyed the open onsen, particularly when it snows. The in-room dinner was very filling and had a couple of good dishes. However, the hotel is quite dated and the exterior is in need of maintenance (e.g. there were spider webs outside the room’s window). The men’s open onsen also need some extra blocking from the bridge during start of the winter, since the trees would have shredded all its leaves and would be visible from the bridge!

10mins drive to Shirogane Blue pond
Ryokan & Onsen were slightly dated in terms of maintenance. Expected a better quality dining experience that was disappointing for their dinner due to the peak season. The saving grace was the breakfast.

The worst hotel i stayed in japan
For an annual traveller to japan myself, this was the worst onsen hotel i have stayed in japan. First of all, Room: the room was so run down and there was a peculiar smell. It feels like a worker’s dorm rather than a hotel. Everything was so worn out Halfboard meals: lousiest dinner. The kaiseki dinner seems to be some stuff u bought from lawson or 7-11 quick and easy snacks put together. They do serve sashimi but it was not very fresh. Breakfast was in an overcrowded hall and some of the dishes seemed to be exactly the same from the night before Service: futon bed was made by a male housekeeper who smelt of tobacco and the smell infiltrated the room. Imagine wet dog smell coupled with tobacco!! I will never stay in this hotel again. Not worth the trip to blue pond either. Way too touristy and crowded.

Quiet and pleasant hotel near attractions.
Our overall stay was very pleasant. The hotel made sure we do not get the same menu for our three dinners there. Crowd control was good too. However, we realized that we were allocated a smoking room when we saw an ashtray in the room when we had indicated non smoking room during the booking. The patrons smoked along the corridor and the smell was persistent. Unfortunately, there was little efforts by the hotel to dissipate the smell throughout our 3-day stay. Facilities in the hotel was good and enjoyable.

Spectacular views and great hot spring.
This hotel is in a great location. very quiet onsen town, but the views around are spectacular. The hotel hot spring is a delightful place to spend time, with views of the river from the open air bath. Hotel itself could do with some sprucing up, but it’s clean and comfortable and the food was good.

The staff were incredibly nice and accommodating. I didn't know that the entire hotel is smoking and we are non-smokers with a baby. The staff showed us different rooms until we found one that didn't smell of smoke. The baths themselves are great. Especially the outdoor one.

Nice Onsen Hotel
The Onsen hotel location is very near to the waterfall. And the hotel also provide free shuttle service tru & fro Asahikawa Station. Have to inform the hotel before your arrival for the free shuttle service. The room I stayed was comfortable & clean. Especially the Onsen for both indoor & outdoor. Both the breakfast & dinner was nice.

별관(別館)에서 냄새가 많이 납니다. (臭う)
초성수기에 숙박 1주일전 겨우 남은 방 하나 예약하느라 어쩔 수 없이 묵었는데 배정받은 별관에서 냄새가 꽤 났습니다. 다다미 쩐내라고 하야할지. 어릴때 시골 외할머니 댁에서 느낄 수 있었던 메주 뜬 냄새 비슷하게 났어요. 그래도 계속 있다보니 적응이 되긴 했는데 가격차이가 크지 않다면 본관에서 숙박하시길. 음식도 세미(?) 카이세키 요리를 먹었는데 제가 이제까지 가봤던 료칸이나 료칸형 호텔 중 가장 별로였습니다. 그래도 아오이이케에서 가까웠고 바로 옆 시로가네 폭포가 있던 점, 온천물이 나쁘지 않았던 점에 그나마 별 3개 줍니다. ㅎㅎ

The bed was comfortable but the toilet was a let down. The water from the sink leaks onto the floor and flooded the toilet . The draining hole in the shower tub was not functioning properly and the water stayed in the tub during shower . It was most disgusting .Will not stay there again!

Good Stay
Yumoto Shirogane Onsen Hotel is just next to Shirogane Waterfall. It is a good stop to end of a day. The hotel is bit aged but clean, breakfast has not much choices given but is acceptable. Wifi only available at the lobby. Overall, this onsen hotel is still value for money.
