The Stargazer Chalet-VIEWS From the very Top of Moonridge
This cabin was designed for the Big Bear experience! For us, that was the whole point. The first time we came to this town we instantly fell in love, but the hotels left a little to be desired. We wanted a private space with some of that classic cabin feel, but also just enough upscale accommodation to make it feel cozy and modern. We wanted a private hot tub. We wanted a wood fireplace. We wanted VIEWS! So we purchased this cabin for it's AMAZING location on the very top of the ridge, and then remodeled it to have an updated contemporary look with just enough rustic nostalgia to match the beauty of the mountains.
This location is PERFECT for families and small gatherings, and can accommodate all types of occasions. Outside we have created a wrap-around deck that gives you a full-day lounging experience. Enjoy the sunrise with a cup of coffee from the front deck as it illuminates the majesty of Bear Mountain, or have a game of Cornhole while listening to our collection of classic vinyl tracks on the record player. In the back you can enjoy a day of grilling and cold beverages followed by a dip in the oversized hot tub under the starry night sky. The kids will enjoy the loft upstairs with foosball, games, plush oversized bean bags, etc., (and it's perfect for family movie nights). And best of all, if you are headed to Bear Mountain or the zoo it's only a short walk down the ridge! No need for parking or massive lines waiting for the bus.
We are confident that you will find everything that you need here to make this trip to Big Bear the memory of a lifetime. Additionally, this home is independently owned and operated so we will be responsive and attentive to your needs. We strive for 5-star experiences so if there is anything we can do to enhance your trip let us know.

We had a great stay at this cabin! The house itself is beautiful and was a perfect home base for our family trip. The host was very responsive and professional when we had a minor issue. Everything inside was clean and well-kept. We’d definitely stay here again!
This was our second visit to the Stargazer Chalet and especially magical over Christmas!!! We love everything about this cabin from the modern yet cozy design, the upstairs kids loft, the old school record player, and of course, the convenient location. It certainly feels like a home away from home. We hope to return again in the near future!
This was a lovely place to stay for our family vacation. The chalet is in a beautiful location with great views all around and a living room view of the Bear Mountain resort. Big Bear Lake is close by with numerous options for dining and shopping. The upstairs loft is perfect for kids to play and relax. The old school video games were a huge hit with the kids (and Dad). Highly recommended!
Everything was perfect, the rooms get a little stuffy because of the heater, but opening a window would fix that. Has everything you could need in a kitchen except a rice cooker fyi. But super safe space.
The Stargazer Chalet lives up to its name, and the amenities were as described. The location was perfect for a secluded peaceful weekend getaway with beautiful views. The cabin had everything you needed and the host was very responsive and helpful and check-in was easy. I highly recommend this cabin !!
We enjoyed our stay here. The cabin came with enough blankets, plenty of entertainment, and standard appliances. It was clean and well decorated. We plan on staying again.
This was an amazing place to stay. Great for skiing. Walking distance to the slopes. Loved the record player. Amazing relaxing perfect little getaway 😊
Awesome cabin & amenities for a family getaway to Big Bear!
Our family had a wonderful stay in this cozy yet modern cabin! The location was in close proximity to everything and we really enjoyed the old school record player. Our daughter absolutely loved the upstairs loft play area and had so much fun playing with the large collection of Magnatiles. The owners were friendly and very responsive throughout the entire renting process. Hope to return in the future!
There were views from both sides of the property. Amazing record collection. I have a feeling these owners are very cool. Updated but rustic. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Came here with our 3 kids (6,4,2 yo). Being able to walk to Bear mountain (8 min walk) was so great for us and I dropped off my son to ski lessons in the morning and was able to come back spend time with the littles and do snow play on the property before picking him back up after his lessons. Property has lots of games for little ones that kept them well entertained. Only draw back was one bathroom for the whole family, but was manageable.
My family and I enjoyed a lovely getaway at Chris and Melanie’s home in Big Bear. It was clean and comfortable. The views are beautiful. We enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub after skiing as well as some lovely fires in the fire place in the evening. Chris and Melanie provided very good instructions on how to access the home, which we also appreciated. Thank you for being such lovely hosts!
We had an amazing time at the cabin and the views were spectacular. We were able to see the ski lift at Bear mountain and watch people skiing all day. The property was great for our family of 6. The kids (and some grown ups) loved the games up in the loft. My husband had a great time browsing the cool record collection, and playing DJ for our group. Overall it was a very comfortable and accommodating space. We had a great time and the property was perfect for our stay.
Everything was perfect from the easy access into the cabin, the cleanliness, the location, and the communication with the owner. We stayed 4 days in this adorable cabin and were even there during a snow storm. They had everything we needed. It was awesome to look out the windows during the storm and watch skiers and snowboarders heading down Bear Mountain. The keyless entry told us the battery was getting low, so I contacted the property owners and they responded immediately and took care of it. They even had a backup plan in the instance the keyless entry failed. They really have everything covered. It was a great trip and I would highly recommend staying in this adorable, fully updated cabin!
Quaint and cozy cabin with incredible view. We were very closely located to Bear Mtn for winter activities. We were lucky enough to have major snow in the area days before. Chains are a SERIOUS must and do not take Deer Canyon Rd as directed by Google; take Moonridge to Lassen as noted in prev reviews. The kitchen is well equipped and has a wine fridge. The oven and range were tricky to use as ignition was hot or miss. We definitely would use this nice place again
We had a great time at the stargazer. It was the perfect size for our family of 5. Very comfortable, it was just the right size. The kitchen was great, most things we needed were there. We did need a blender but made do without. Everything is updated nicely. The location is walking distance to bear mountain. However if the roads are icy chains are mandatory and I suggest taken Lassen drive which is further up past Deer Canyon to siskiyou. The hill on Siskiyou off of Deer Canyon is almost impossible. We had a hard time and found the going around was best. However, we will stay here again on our next trip.
We had the most wonderful time at the Stargazer Chalet. This cabin is truly everything you could want in a cabin stay. It’s charming. It’s cozy. It has a large front deck with a beautiful view. Our children loved the loft. It has a chest of toys, games, etc…and decorated with string lights. The kitchen had everything we needed. The record player was a unique touch. We really enjoyed listening to music with a log on the fire. Chris and Melanie are truly wonderful hosts. You can tell a lot of thought went into making this place not just a stay, but a joyful cozy mountain cabin experience for all. We didn’t want to leave, and we can’t wait to come back. Thank you Chris and Melanie for opening up your beautiful home. Awesome family memories made here. Hope to return again soon.
We have a 7yr old and a newborn and wanted a few days away to spend time all together. We brought crafts and games with us and wanted a cabin that was cozy for us to spend the majority of our time in.The chalet is literal perfection! We loved the game loft, the hot tub, kitchen table, record player, TVs, video games, football, board games and rocking chairs. Everything was so immaculately clean when we arrived, I thought we were stepping into a catalogue photoshoot. We had our mulled wine heated on the stove and made our daily hot chocolate. We got those quick burn fire logs from Vons and it was perfect for the fireplace. I cannot express enough how perfect the chalet was for our Christmas family retreat. Having a stove, microwave, and dishwasher were huge pluses for me to be able to cook food instead of eating out all the town. We also brought our crockpot just to have something easy for dinner. Also I’m so glad I remembered to grab our swimsuits as we were heading out so we could enjoy the hot tub. If you’re new to big bear- I do highly recommend Tropicali, Teddy Bear Restaurant (cash only), Azteca Mexican, and Sister Bake Shop. We loved walking the Village and we went to Big Bear Discovery Center. To find walking trails That were stroller friendly. I highly recommend going to big bear lake for a sunset. We have gone to big bear 20 times in the last 4 years to snowboard. This was by far our favorite place to stay!
First, i want to say that the cabin was delightful, and the views were awesome. Unfortunately, due to the snow fall in the prior days, we had some issues, but the owners were very responsive as we worked through them. The plugs in the back bedrooms did not work, so we had no heat at night. Luckily there were lots of blankets, and we ended up taking turns sleeping in the living room. The plugs in the loft didn’t work either, so the room my daughter was super stoked for didn’t have any twinkle lights or a working TV/video games, but she did enjoy the fooseball table! We had to shovel about 2 feet of snow off the jacuzzi to use it, and I’m guessing since part of the power was out that was why we had no lights on the back patio. Since we couldn't use the back patio, we hung out in the front. It took me about 2 hours to shovel the front deck so we had space to hang out. While shoveling, i did thoroughly enjoy listening to Miles Davis on the record player and watching a snow boarding competition during breaks. If you get firewood for the fireplace, make sure they break them into smaller pieces for better airflow to get the fire to light - we just couldn't get ours too light no matter how much we tried, but i did have fun using the old school air blower thing while attempting to get the wood the catch! All in all, we all had a fun weekend, and would come back, if everything was working and i didn't have to shovel so much snow to utilize the ammenities.
