Such a great cabin and better than expected!! Loved the location so close to downtown also! The walk to the cabin was steep, but was expected based on the listing. We will definitely stay here again!
I was in Black Mountain for a conference and this was the perfect setting and location to stay offsite. It was convenient to everything Black Mountain (which we loved) had to offer and The Blue Ridge Assembly where the conference was located. Would definitely stay here again.
Perfectly located mountain cabin. Spacious with great views of the mountains in an exclusive neighborhood. Private but not isolated and easy to get to Asheville.

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
Cabin needs to update the decorand furniture. Bedroom is in the lower part of the house was musky. Pathway light were not working and hard to see at night without a flashlight. Location is nice and close to the town and Asheville.
After searching through several cabins, I chose this one for the affordable price and location. The cabin was comfortable, clean, and well-decorated. The only down-sides (for which the property manager was very transparent about) was the short, steep walk to and from the cabin. Also, there's a busy road down the hill from the cabin that can be a bit noisy. All things considered, this was a great value and just what I was looking for!
Secluded spot in the woods! Perfect location just outside of downtown Black Mountain- this was a great place to land for Independence Day weekend. There was plenty of room for us (2 adults and one 13yo). Well equipped and Close to everything we needed, and nice porch to relax on and wonder. The trail to get to it could be a challenge for anyone with walking difficulty but definitely a great place for relaxing!
Loved the cabin and the location! The only drawback is that the parking area where you unload your car is currently a big mud bog. The community needs to fill in the ruts that were made by truck tires and then spread new gravel over the entire area. Other than that, awesome cabin!
The place has very nice, clean and good location. The biggest down fall has the hiking path to get to the house. The path was dirt and very very steep. On the day I departed it was pouring rain and the path turned in to stream making very difficult to hull my belongs it was a adventure and messy.
Just be aware.
We had a lovely time at this simple cabin. The location was great to access Black Mountain, Asheville, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and Lake Lure. It was terrific to have my dogs with us, too, since so much in the area is dog friendly. As others have mentioned, it is a very high step up to enter the cabin. Very high and awkward especially as it could be easily fixed. The road is also almost directly under the cabin so you do hear the road noise but we didn’t mind it too much. Just that you won’t feel like you’re away from civilization. Still, it was a great few days away in the mountains.
The cabin is very cozy, peaceful and nice. The bedroom was cold at night and the concrete floor made it more colder, so make sure you bring a slipper to wear around. The alarm system went off a couple time which was terrifying to say the least. The bed is a little uncomfortable specially it made a lot of creaking whenever to toss and turn. I think they need a new bed frame or new bed for sure. I was looking forward to hike and walk around lake tomahawk but the rain kinda prevented me from going but it’s was a nice distraction because the rain made everything so calm and extra peaceful and I didn’t mind being locked in. Just bring some extra food and basic condiments.
Very clean, nice place, location perfect for all areas of Ashville. Only negatives is that in the dark would be nice if cabin entrances were marked along lighted path. Also missing hair drier.
This cabin was clean and relatively well appointed for cooking. Everything worked just fine, and we had few problems. Just as some of the other reviews here indicate, there are some things to note that are nice to know and are not fully clear from the cabin description. The directions to the cabin are not great and it was hard to locate-- especially if you are arriving after dark. If you have mobility issues, getting down to this cabin is more than a "short, sloped" walk-- we are healthy, able adults/teens and would call the dirt path steep and the mulch slippery. We were kind of amazed it was not considered a liability. The step up into the cabin is laughably high-- again, could be a problem for elderly people or those with mobility issues. The cabin backs up very close to Highway 9, which is a main thoroughfare running south from Black Mountain. The traffic is loud most of the day, not just at peak times. The cabin is basically 2 rooms + bathrooms; there are no bedrooms with doors (just a downstairs with a bed and and upstairs with a pull-out couch), so if you need any sound / personal privacy from those you're staying with, this is not the place. The parking is a couple of minutes walk up the hill and there are signs, notifications, and warnings not to park in the unloading area-- but the other cabin-dwellers from the neighboring cabins had all parked there anyway, so we could not even unload our car that much closer to the cabin. You will be asked to take your own garbage down the trail about 5 cabins away. No one of these things ruined our stay, but they just good to know before you go.
This cabin was perfect! It was tastefully decorated, and very, very clean. It had all the amenities that we needed, and the appliances & bathrooms were very updated. The proximity to Asheville and nearby hiking was perfect. We also loved downtown Black Mountain. It had some great restaurants & breweries. We will definitely be back!
We liked it! But a few things to know before you go. go.
We recently stayed three nights in Chickadees Hatch. The cabin is nicely appointed with comfortable furniture, kitchen equipment, utensils, towels, sheets, etc. The location is awesome in Cheshire Village, within walking distance to the restaurants in the Village & small market, as well as a beautiful creek & park area. Just a short drive away is the Ingles & the bustling downtown of Black Mountain. Being right on Hwy 9 makes for easy access to Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, Montreat or wherever you're looking to go. A few things we'd like to point out for the next guests: The cabin may be difficult for you to access if you have mobility issues. The parking area is a decent walk from the cabin entrance, and there is a steep incline on the mulch trail walking down to the house(or walking up, if you park near the trash cans), as well as a large step up into the house once you arrive. Also, as others have noted in previous reviews - the noise from the road is noticeable & at times can be rather loud. Not so much at night while you are sleeping (though we did hear an occasional loud motorcycle late at night), but in the evenings while eating dinner or enjoying a beverage on the deck. If you're looking for a serene, quiet cabin tucked in the woods away from civilization, this is not it. Noise also carries inside the cabin (acoustics), so a note to any couples traveling together, your travel companions will hear whatever you're doing from the other room (there's a pull out couch upstairs & a Queen bed downstairs). Also, two final notes - the pull out couch upstairs is not the most comfortable mattress (could feel the springs). Also, the temperature downstairs got very cold with the AC on (rest of the cabin was comfortable). Overall, we loved it & would stay again- just thought we'd point out these things for those considering the Chickadees Hatch!

Overall great week
Chickadee Cottage was a great layout & a rustic Frank Lloyd Wright feel. The access makes it a little interesting, but we were warned of this prior to our visit. Great food in the area and able to find some great rides including the Blue ridge on our tandem.

The Perfect Getaway
My husband and I spent a week here for our honeymoon and it was by far the most relaxing vacation we have ever taken. If you are a big reader, there are several places (both indoors and out) that make great places to curl up and get lost in a book. We both highly recommend!!
