About this property

Brackett Cottage: Near Salem! Heart of Historic Marblehead; Walk to Shops & Dining

  • A Warm Welcome to Brackett Cottage, where historic elegance meets modern comfort in the heart of Marblehead! Nestled in the charming historic Old Town, this beautifully preserved 1810 New England colonial is just a 1-minute walk to Marblehead Center’s shops and restaurants and only a short stroll to a beach on the town’s famous harbor. Spend your days watching sailboats and schooners glide across the water, then return to a home filled with history, character, and timeless charm.

Step inside Brackett Cottage and be transported to a time when Marblehead was a thriving seafaring town and travelers returned from distant journeys with treasures from around the world. Every room tells a story, blending antique-style furnishings, fine prints, nautical charts, and distinctive pieces celebrating Marblehead’s maritime and revolutionary heritage.

Built by a shipwright for a shipwright, this remarkable colonial home is unlike any other. No two rooms have the same shape or height, colonial-era fireplaces can be found throughout, built-ins abound, and the staircase with its brass rail feels more like a ship than a home. The sloping floors, narrow stairways, and lower ceilings are part of the authentic character of this historic residence.

At Brackett Cottage, each room provides a cozy place for you to relax and reflect.

In the Living Room, gather around the electric fireplace, settle into the comfortable sofa or swivel chairs, and enjoy conversations, games, or quiet evenings. The warm lighting and historic details create an inviting parlor atmosphere.

The Dining Room offers an elegant setting for intimate meals or a peaceful afternoon with a book by the fireplace. The dining table accommodates 4-6 guests, with dinnerware and glassware beautifully displayed in the built-in sideboard.

The Kitchen features full-sized appliances and everything needed to prepare meals, from a simple breakfast to a family dinner. As you exit the Kitchen, follow the brick pathway to the stairs leading toward Washington Street or continue into the gorgeous private garden, where guests can enjoy al fresco dining on the large patio.

Now it’s time to grab the brass handrail and climb the ship-like stairs to the second floor where the bedrooms and bathroom await.

In the Master Bedroom, feel like royalty among the French Provincial décor. A king-sized bed with silk bedding and pillows is complemented by classic side tables and crystal lamps. A silk slipper chair beside the fireplace provides another comfortable reading nook. Above the fireplace, guests can enjoy their favorite streaming services on the 50” smart flat-screen TV, courtesy of high-speed internet.

In the Guest Bedroom, the shipwright’s hand is evident. The room feels like a colonial-era ship’s cabin with a built-in trundle bed, quirky closets, and a classic bureau. As is a common theme in this Marblehead home, there is another fireside reading nook.

The smallest bedroom is outfitted as a cozy den with a trundle day bed lined with large, comfy pillows. While sleeping for 2 is possible, the room is also set up for snuggling in front of another 50” smart flat-screen TV. Shelves, hooks, and a cedar chest provide storage for guests’ belongings.

The full bathroom features a tile-enclosed bath/shower combination along with all the usual essentials.

There is something for everyone here - so many fun activities:

    - Historic Exploration: Wander Marblehead’s historic streets, discover its colonial architecture, and explore the town’s rich maritime and revolutionary heritage.
    - Seaside Escape: Take a short walk to the harbor beach and spend the day watching sailboats, schooners, and boats cruise through the water.
    - Local Charm: Explore Marblehead Center’s unique shops, restaurants, galleries, and historic landmarks, all just steps from the cottage.
    - Outdoor Adventure: Enjoy coastal walks, harbor views, sailing, kayaking, and other seaside activities along Marblehead’s beautiful shoreline.
    - North Shore Adventures: Discover nearby Salem, Beverly, Gloucester, and other iconic North Shore destinations, all within easy reach.
