Lantern House is much more than a comfortable bungalow on the ocean. It is an experience—the experience of living provincial life in the tropical Philippines. When new visitors sit with a cool drink, they almost always exhale and say, "Wow, this is peaceful." It is the ocean and the sky. It is the architecture with the Philippine construction technique, native grass roofs, and harmonious Japanese elements. It is a whole lot of minimalism with very little clutter to disturb the eye. It is the surrounding terrain with mountain views and no neighbors that can be seen. It is the coves, caves, and beaches where it is unusual to see another human. It is the natural landscaping with a profusion of flowers. All the pictured areas and more are yours to freely enjoy. Pictures numbers 2 to 46 are shared spaces, while the rest are private to Lantern House. It is called Lantern House because with its lights on at night, it looks like a lantern. As of July 1, 2025, we will offer guests in the Lantern House and The Cliff House full use of the main house's professional kitchen. Our cook will assist you in finding all the tools you require. The schedules would have to be coordinated with our meals or we could all cook and eat together if you desire.
There is a second bungalow, Cliff House, at Lilicliff (see it in a separate listing), so there will be no more than 4 guests here at the same time. Come with another couple.
Lili Cliff is a place where you can choose to defuse, unwind, let go, be in the moment, be free of decisions, dream, and come down. Tablas Island has many native beach and mountain resorts. However, it is not generally a place for nightlife or party culture. If you want that as part of your trip, we suggest you fly to Caticlan on Panay Island and take the short boat shuttle to Boracay Island. There you can rock and roll, until you drop, and blow it all out on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Spend time there and then come to Lili Cliff to be embraced by the calm. Tablas is a short ferry ride from Caticlan.
Traveling in the Philippines can be a challenge compared to most other countries. You can plan on the better part of a day getting to Tablas Island and another day to return to a major city. Therefore, we highly recommend a 5-day minimum stay with us. A week or more is even better. We will be happy to assist you with travel logistics, getting here and back.. We will pick you up at any port of entry to Tablas that you choose. We will shuttle to your point of departure. We are located on Tablas Island, Romblon Province, Philippines, which is in the center of the country. There is a daily ferry service from Batangas Port near Manila. Or you can fly from most major cities in the country and many international points to Caticlan, which is the airport that serves the famous resort island of Boracay. There are several options for the short ferry ride from Caticlan to Tablas Island.
For the ultimate retreat experience, we offer full meal service for 3000 Pesos a day per person. The food prepared by our long-standing cook will range from local to international dishes and will be served by our staff. We are not knowledgeable about vegan diet and vegetarian choices, although available, are limited. If you would like to cook your special diet, you are welcome to join our cook in our commercial-grade kitchen. You can choose to dine with my wife, Adura, and me. You will be treated with the love we extend to family and friends. Or if you prefer, we can serve you privately. We can do an evening beach barbecue if you like. Local beer, a reasonable wine offering, and simple cocktails are available at additional cost. Lantern House has a 2-burner gas stove, a sink, and a refrigerator..
What you will love about this neighborhood
The setting is pristine. We are a short hike to Binocut Beach, where there are several native resorts. If you do not want to walk, we will shuttle you there and back. We travel to the main town of Odiongan once or twice a week. You are welcome to come along. We can arrange a day-long island circumference tour with a local guide. There are some caves, waterfalls falls and hiking trails to discover. There are two scuba dive shops at the south end of Tablas. We have awesome coral, warm water, and many macro critters. Large animals are only sometimes observed. If you want a dive day, we will take you there, dive with you, and return the same day. It is an hour and a half drive each way. Dives cost 1500+- pesos.
We have excellent electricity service. We seldom lose power, and when we do, it lasts only a few minutes. We have found no need for a generator. We have Starlink internet service. It is fast and reliable. The main living room has a smart flat screen and a Bose surround sound system.
Full body oil massage is available on site for 500 Pesos an hour. We can call in ladies for manicures and pedicures.
We require no cleaning charge or no other irritating charges
