Welcome to Your Nature-Lover’s Paradise!
This home is a dream come true for anyone who loves nature! Nestled in a lush garden filled with vibrant flowers and fruit trees, it offers a peaceful escape just 200 yards from the warm waters of the Caribbean. On almost any given day, you’ll hear the calls of toucans and howler monkeys or spot iguanas, exotic butterflies, sloths, parrots, agoutis, and even tropical frogs right from the property. This truly unique home provides an intimate connection with nature like no other in Cahuita.
While you’ll be surrounded by the beauty of the real Costa Rica, you won’t have to sacrifice comfort. The home is equipped with: *A full-sized kitchen with high-quality appliances *Reliable WiFi *A safe for your laptop and valuables *On-demand tankless hot water *A U.S.-standard purification system for safe drinking water
Adventure Awaits Just Minutes Away! If you decide to venture beyond this tropical haven, you’ll find plenty to do within a short walk: -Take a surf lesson -Go horseback riding -Snorkel in crystal-clear waters -Savor delicious local cuisine at Chow's Paradise Restaurant -Enjoy the laid-back vibes at Reggae Bar
Downtown Cahuita is just a 15-minute walk away—close enough to explore its wonderful restaurants, shops, bars, and tour agencies, but far enough to enjoy peace and tranquility without needing a car.
Don’t Miss Cahuita National Park! Here, you can relax on pristine beaches, kayak through the stunning waters, or take a jungle walk while watching monkeys swing effortlessly through the trees.
Choosing the Right Place for Your Stay To help you find the perfect accommodation, consider asking hosts these important questions before booking: 1) Will I need to cross a highway to reach the beach? 2) Is the nearest ocean access sandy or rocky with old coral formations? 3) Do you have a water purification system? (Avoid losing precious vacation time to stomach issues!) 4) Can I flush toilet paper, or does it need to go in a waste bin?
A Few Important Notes -The stairs to the second floor are steeper than usual. If you have mobility concerns, the downstairs bedroom may be a better option. -This is a lush, natural area of Costa Rica, meaning you may occasionally see a gecko or an interesting insect inside. If this isn’t your vibe, a more urban location might be a better fit.
I’m happy to help with any questions —looking forward to welcoming you to Cahuita!

The house is really comfortable and unique. There is a lot of wildlife nearby. We felt completely safe. Troy is a fantastic host - very concerned with our comfort and ensured we had everything we needed.
I would love to stay there again - it was perfect!!!!
Close enough to walk, far enough tucked away to witness wildlife and still hear the waves. Great host helped with tours and activities! We saw poison dart frogs, tucans, macaws, howler monkeys, and hummingbirds from the patio! A jungle cabin, this place is rustic enough to let you witness nature, but with on demand hot water and wifi.
Family of 4 stayed for 4 nights, 2 double bedrooms and a sofa bed on the ground floor, fans everywhere kept us cool. We loved the house and the location next to the beach, a few restaurants close by but also easy to walk into town. Seeing the monkeys, toucans and other wildlife from the balcony was a highlight. Troy was on hand if needed but not intrusive.
What a lovely property to return to each day to relax, read, grab a bite, and sleep. The house is adorable and property is beautiful with the pond, flowering trees and bushes. We saw and heard so many birds just sitting on either porch. A community of howler monkeys stayed in a tree across the street several nights and were the perfect alarm clock for our early morning activities. Troy came to our aid whenever we needed something - immediately! He is a great host.
Can't say enough positive things about this property! The house was as described. The owner, Troy, was very nice, and helpful. There was so much wildlife to be seen on the property it was delightful. The property is close enough to walk to town, the beach, etc.
Troy was an amazing host. The cabin was an off the beaten path but still close enough to everything you would need. There is tons of wildlife near, we got to see monkeys, frogs, sloths, agoutis, and toucans. Inside the cabin was really nice and it had all the items we needed for a great trip. The beach was a short distance away. The food was amazing in Cahuita!! We loved the area. Would definitely visit again.
This Vrbo was the perfect fit for my friend and I. We came to Costa Rica to bird, and it was hard to leave the property at times because there were so many. 10 Iguanas in eye shot at one time, howler monkeys in the trees, beautifully landscaped yard. The host lives next door and was very helpful with questions of where to eat and what to do. Cahuita is a quiet small town with chill vibes. Definitely not a party town.
Troy met us upon arrival and continued to be very helpful with information about the local town and surrounding activities. Also great at pointing out animals we could see from the property. Rustic cabin was very suitable for us and we enjoyed relaxing on upper deck with binoculars ready. Steep stairs would not be suitable for someone with mobility issues. Would choose again.
We loved our stay here! Great private, 2-story home a very short walk to the beach. It was easy to walk anywhere in town from here. We recommend taking the 2 PM or earlier bus from San Jose because we got in very late from the 4 PM. Lots of cool wildlife visible from the house in late August: toucans, iguanas, frogs, noisy monkeys. Troy is an amazing host, very attentive and easy to communicate with. He made this great stay even better!
Great host, nothing was too much trouble. Even offered to do our laundry! Location was perfect, everything within walking distance. abundance of wildlife in and around garden. Will definitely return
Surrounded by jungle, this 2 bedroom cottage gives you the true feeling of Pura Vida We woke up to the sounds of howler monkeys, toucans, and many other birds. We saw iguanas sunning themselves, frogs, and all sorts of critters walk through the beautiful yard. Our host Troy was so helpful with great suggestions of what to do, where to go. We would come back here in a heart beat! :) Kat & How
I can't say enough wonderful things about our experience at Troys place and Cahuita! It is BEAUTIFUL, clean, convenient, relaxing, and welcoming spot! We loved everything about it and are excited to get back as soon as we can. Troy was a fantastic host who went out of his way to make sure we made it there safe, sound and that we were happy and not inconvenienced in any way. We'll see Troys place again and Cahuita again soon! Pura Vida!
Here you will see nature and lots of it. We loved the thrills of just sitting on the porch or deck and waiting for whatever was next. Climbing sloths, Howling monkeys, Foraging agoutis, Stealthy iguanas, Poisonous dart frogs, Clamoring Toucans, Laughing falcons, Leaping lizards, and so many amazing bugs and plants. I think it's safe to say the whole family had a transformative experience. Troy is a great host and super accomidating.
So amazingly beautiful, the photos don't do it justice. We sat on the patio. just soaking up the sounds and sights of the forest and a couples of times, we were lucky enough to be out there for monkey playtime in the trees across the road. House was clean and comfortable. Bathroom is small, but the shower was excellent: great water pressure and perfect water temperature.
We walked to the beach and went into the ocean every day, too.
Owner was super friendly, and had great restaurant recommendations. He was also able to answer questions about other local activities.
The town has great restaurants and shops. Overall, this was the best vacation we've ever had. We will back, for sure. :)

Gorgeous property, no AC
Our host was amazing. Very friendly and willing to help us find great places to eat and awesome things to do. The location is perfect, only a couple minute walk to the beach and restaurants. The house is quaint, with absolutely gorgeous grounds. Many unique and beautiful flowers, lots of cool birds and (my favorite) howler monkeys to listen to in the distance. My only setback about this property is that it, like many places in Costa Rica, does not have AC. We had some fans, but it was not enough for us who are unaccustomed to the heat and humidity of Costa Rica. The windows open, but many don’t have screens on them to prevent bugs from coming in at night. I understand this is a completely normal situation in Costa Rica, but for us there simply wasn’t any escape from the heat.
We had such a great time! Troy is a spectacular host! He was waiting for us upon check-in, and had everything ready for us upon arrival. Absolutely breathtaking property, with so much peace and nature on the front porch. Just a few steps to the beautiful Playa Negra, and restaurants in town. No matter the question, Troy was a phone call or text away to answer. All of the comforts that are needed in Costa Rica are available in this property. I highly recommend it!! We had never made a trip like this before, so we were not sure what to expect... but it was amazing all the way around! Thanks so much for a great getaway! Also, Hugo was a fantastic driver to get us from airport to Playa Negra.
The property is exactly as described and more - tons of wildlife, gorgeous garden, and an easy walk to the beach or into town for dinner. Troy was more than helpful with suggestions for hikes, food, and tour contacts - if I could give him 6-stars as a host, I would! The house is a lovely beach house with everything you need for a relaxing stay. I would love to come back with a group of friends to explore the area more. Just in the gardens we saw an amazing variety of frogs, Agouti, monkeys, birds, and insects. Our favorite activity in the area turned out to be enjoying a beverage on the upstairs porch and just watching the wildlife! We hiked the beach trail at the park and nearby waterfalls at Troy's suggestion, the waterfalls were gorgeous and secluded. For food in the area we really enjoyed the Cahuitas Taste Caribbean Soul Food restaurant and fanstastic sushi at Sobre las Olas by Gondwana (on the beach). The restaurants closest to the property also serve drinks on the beach, the Toucan makes some fantastic cocktails!
You can tell the owner takes a LOT of pride in giving guests a wonderful experience, we would love to come back to explore more!
We loved our stay here. The location is incredible within a very short walk to Playa Negra and easy walk into Cahuita town and the National Park. The house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay including great shower, drinking water, and fast internet. We loved hanging out on the porches watching and listening to the wildlife - from the yard we saw numerous bird species including vultures, toucans, rales, kiskadees, hummingbirds, and saw sloths, howler monkeys, iguanas, poison dart frogs, tree frogs, agoutis and bats! We loved being woken up by the howler monkeys. We spent our days walking the beaches and wildlife viewing at the park and in the backyard. The house is a bit on the rustic side which we found charming but may not be ideal for someone who doesn't want to see the odd lizard or bug inside - our family didn't mind at all. The house is nicer in person than the photos suggest and we miss it already. Troy was the most amazing host - excellent at communicating and ready to answer any questions. Don't hesitate to book this place if you want a comfortable, safe place to stay close to everything surrounded by wildlife and with a super host.

Great location, very nice host, but would not stay again
Secure property w/locked gate, quiet, easy walk to beautiful beach & easy drive to lots of activities. Fairly private (host lives next door so you’ll hear each other daily), beautiful flora, some fauna though “more than in the national park” is false. Agoutis & tree frogs in yard, can hear/see monkeys in the distance. No sloths/monkeys/toucans in mango tree in yard like I’d pictured from the listing. Other pros: western-style toilet, filtered water faucet, 3 boogie boards & 2 beach towels, outdoor hose for rinsing & clothesline for drying, full-sized fridge & basic kitchen supplies, good wifi, laundry & house cleaning provided once included. Cons: house is old, hot, & dirty. No A/C, couple ceiling fans didn’t help, 1 ancient floor fan did nothing. Host brought an extra better fan on request. Every day there were critters in the house - roaches, ants, lizards, termites, despite us leaving no food out. We even put our toothbrushes in a tupperware container. Multiple kinds of droppings (poop) & termite dust & ants daily on kitchen counters, by trash can, stairs, windowsills, floor. Host aware, came & said he thought it was bat poop (inside the house?!) & “fixed” some hole in the wall while we were out which lessened the poo, but didn’t get rid of it. In short I never could relax fully there. Didn’t wanna be barefoot inside, almost too hot to sleep, constantly bitten by ants/mosquitoes. We left 4 days early out of 12 we had booked.
