Lovely House

This is a lovely property on a private, secluded estate. It is scenic. The house is very comfortable and nicely furnished. The beds were very comfortable. The owner Ron was very helpful and welcoming.

Quiet location in the country with peek views of ocean. Close to town. Be aware that T-Mobile has no coverage except when you are out in front of the cottage.

The water system filter needs to be replaced because the water has a bad smell. Additionally, the communication regarding access to the property is very poor, and the itinerary provided is not helpful. The property view is very nice.

A Gem in the Forest

A delightful little house close to everything and yet set away from the bustle of town. My family had a delightful time staying at this cute little house, a great home base for all the nearby activities. One side note for families traveling with young children; the upstairs is awesome but only accessible externally. It still worked fine for our daughters. The property is gated and safe! Loved the swing too

Cabin Getaway

The property location was beautiful! You feel like you're away from it all and yet the town is close by. The beaches are just a few minutes away.The cabin itself was just the right size for the two of us! It was clean and comfortable. Not all of the windows had blinds and that was a bit unsettling. Be prepared to bring your own soap, shampoo and Kleenex.Overall, we had a wonderful time!

Rest and Relaxation

My family had a great stay. Everything was clean and well kept with plenty of space for everyone. Ive been coming to Cambria and San Simeon since I was a little girl, and this place allowed me to enjoy the beautiful surroundings once again. We appreciate the communication with Karl as he was quick to respond with any questions and was clear on the simple check-in/check-out instructions. We would love to stay again. Perfect Cambria location!

We have stayed at Karl's cottage several times, and every time we've had a perfect stay. The location combines ease of access to the Moonstone Beach, Fiscalini (hiking), and downtown Cambria, but it's also in a quiet and beautiful spot where you can see wild turkeys and deer and have a view of the ocean peeping through the trees as well. My kids love the tire swing and tree swing and going on nature walks. And, the cottage is updated, clean, and beautiful. We recommend to anyone and hope to go back again!

Off the beaten path

This property was just what we needed. A nice retreat yet close to Cambria town and near Moonstone beach. We saw deer wandering around and the smell of the trees was amazing. Lots of privacy here. The house was very clean and comfortable. Kitchen was big enough for our family of 5. We hope we can come back soon.

Rustic and beautiful

The setting is gorgeous. We saw deer close by every day. The rental unit was clean and well appointed. Only showers in both units, not a bathtub. Stone fireplace downstairs was beautiful. We wished we could have had a fire, but not allowed. Overall a very quiet and pleasant spot to unwind.

Perfect Cambria Retreat!

Karl’s cottage is a perfect blend of all things Cambria: close to the beach, hiking, the mountains, and town. We have stayed here a few times and recommend it to anyone, especially people with families and/or multigenerational or multiple groups who want some separation, as the upstairs is private and spacious and a great place for kids to play. Karl is also a wonderful and responsive host: we stayed during Thanksgiving and I forgot to bring a rolling pin, and he found one and brought it over for us. It’s a wonderful find!

Peaceful weekend, great location

We had a great time at the cabin, would definitely go back! Bed was comfy, grounds were beautiful- enjoyed the deer visiting every day. A few minor suggestions, only one wine glass, we don't like to share! Could use a bigger coffee pot, only made two cups. Motion light switch in bathroom didn't work properly, stayed stuck on/off. Other than that it was perfect and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there, just what we needed. Thank you for sharing your home!

Secluded, private and pristine

This was an exceptionally nice place to stay in Cambria for our family of 5 (2 teens and a 6 yo). We were able to spend time together and in separate spaces, which was critical to the overall happiness levels on this trip. The only hiccups were that VRBO did not send the information to get into the gate and doors prior to our arrival; the Teflon cookware is pretty scratched up; and the windows and doors needed to be open while cooking or the fire alarm goes off. Overall a great place for our family to stay. There was even a resident tree frog, turkeys, deer, and woodpeckers, all to the delight of the kids. Thanks!

Very Serene

Great spot. Very quiet and peaceful. Place was very clean. We loved it here Two items that are fixable: 1. The overhead fire alarm went off each time we cooked except when the front door and sliding doors were wide open. 2. All the windows on the west side do not have covering. We covered the windows each evening for privacy.

Great place

The property was great. Had a bit of trouble getting into the front gate, the code was never given to us but we finally got in. When we got to the downstairs unit the fire/CO2 alarm was chirping with 'low battery.' Went to town, bought 2 new batteries, and it still chirped. So I unplugged it and the problem was solved. The owner wanted to reimburse me for the batteries but I said was ok. The location is great, close to town. You can walk to Moonstone Beach, but I'd recommend driving. The place was very clean and we look forward to going back sometime soon.

Beautiful location that's quite with deer

My wife and I stayed 5 days at the cottage. The location is very close to Moonstone beach and Cambria, but is nicely tucked back away from Hwy 1 so it is very quite. We saw deer on the property in the morning as well as wild turkeys. It was a perfect size for just the 2 of us as it is a small cottage seperate from the owners main house. The only real negatives we had was it does not have a dish washer so you must do dishes by hand and the inside was not as clean as we would have liked with both the fixures and ceiling fans needed to be dusted and the wood floors needing to be cleaned ( you could see foot prints on the wood floors). Overall though it was nice.

Coastal Getaway

Very cozy and clean cottage that was perfect for our family. Our two kids (4, 11) slept in the main room just fine and we had a bedroom to ourselves. The kitchen is well equipped and we cooked most of our meals inside. Best part of the property is the location. Very close to Moonstone Beach and tons of trails. We easily made it to Hearst Castle, Big Sur, Morro Bay, and Atascadero to name a few spots. The Moonstone Beach Bar and Grill is VERY family friendly and gave us a good meal out. The owners gave us plenty of privacy and only communicated the essentials, but made clear they were available in case of any needs. The place seems brand new and everything works fine so there was no need to contact them. Price wise, it seems like this is one of the better values in this region so close to the beach.

Quiet serene cabin

Read the listing carefully. This is an awesome little cabin built just right for two if you just rent the downstairs. If you want a bathtub it only comes with the upstairs room which you must contact the manager about and pay extra for. Also the upstairs room has to go outside to get down to main cabin area. These things aren’t well explained in the listing. (But I will admit I didn’t read it closely enough beforehand) Perfect, quiet location that we woke to deer outside almost every morning peacefully munching their way through the main house’s lawn. Serene little getaway that you will enjoy!

Needs some attention

No wine glasses, even though we’re close to wine country. Well one actually. Everything else was plastic. Kitchen utensils/pots/pans and cutting boards felt unsanitary and it felt like anything that wasn’t wanted in the main house was put here. Take note that there’s no dishwasher so I felt like I had to wash everything before I used it. Not sure how clean things were before they were put away. We only used the downstairs so be careful. It’s not clear on the rental. We paid for the whole thing but didn’t use the whole space. Location was good. House was good. Lights over bathroom sink didn’t work. Not all blinds worked. Can’t use fireplace. Bummer. Don’t think I would rent this space again.

Cottage in Cambria

The cottage is in a very beautiful location, close to the Moonstone beach, but I found several things which were very disappointing about this booking. The listing did not make it clear that the cottage shares location with the main property (perhaps I needed to read description more carefully?). A very strong smell of mold was overwhelming at the first floor, and that was the very first we noticed when we entered the property. Burning scented candles did not help at all. The listing is not indicating that accessing the 2nd floor is only possible through the outdoor stairs, which is a bit inconvenient. The cottage lacks a nice set of plates, utensils and most importantly glasses (this is a wine country after all). It offers some sad looking plastic cups, mostly empty cabinets, non-inviting in general, no tea/coffee samples. The cottage was clean inside; however it needed some love outside to remove spider webs and dust. The smell inside was the most disarming fact about this rental. Did I mention this was the first booking we encountered without any shower gel/ shampoo samples in more than 15+ years of booking? These small touches will make a big difference IMHO.
