  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

Quaint House to spend the night in or a weekend get away when passing through the Columbus area. Wish we had more time to visit the cute shops in the area. We stayed to go to a Blue Jackets game. Easy access to the city. Will keep this on our list of places to stay.

Book us again at this charming Guest House

We absolutely loved our stay! The house is very charming and nicely decorated. Everything was super clean and the extra amenities like shampoo were great (there was even a welcome gift!). We generally bring our own bedding to sleep on, but these sheets were so soft and clean, we decided to give it a try. We slept like babies! The beds were also much more comfortable than most hotels we stay in. We will definitely be making reservations for another stay! (Bonus was the Local Cantina just a few blocks over - the food was wonderful)

This is the second time I have stayed at this property. It’s a nice old converted house that is in good shape. It is within walking distance to the quaint little town of Canal Winchester. The honors make it easy to communicate with them. And the rates are very reasonable. I would recommend staying here if you’re in the area.

This is an excellent guest house. Very convenient and comfortable stay. Always visit them when in town for taekwondo tournaments.

Perfect home away from home

Excellent communication, home was nestled in quiet part of town that had easy highway access to all parts of the city. Bed was comfortable, room was spotless, and the Internet connection was lightning fast!.

Kathy & Marc were so welcoming and took the time to tell us about the history of the property. Canal Winchester is also a beautiful historical district as well. Very unique guest house, very clean, quiet, and cozy.

Just like home

My new home away from home when I travel to Columbus. Room is always spotless with everything I need for a quick trip. The hosts are very accommodating and helpful when needed. I love the peace and quiet of the area and close access to the highway for getting around the city easily

very nice staff . easy to get too and puts you close to hocking Hills vacation area. The rooms are a great value to what they charge for the national chain rooms. If you want a clean room in a quite place to get a good nites sleep and a hot shower to start your day consider this place.

Absolutely charming house

We absolutely loved our stay here! We were in Columbus for a conference and opted to stay further outside of the city, and upon arrival we were so glad we did! This was the most charming house in a lovely historic town. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

The property was unique and quiet. I briefly talk to one of the owners Mark he seemed really nice. I would love to go back another time and sit outside for a while. It was conveniently located close to the downtown where I had a good breakfast at a diner.

We booked this place last minute and were so pleased with our stay. The property is exceptionally clean. The check in process is smooth and clear. The hosts are friendly, helpful, and responsive. The neighborhood is really cute too with interesting dining options. I really enjoyed the stay and wished we could have had more time there. I absolutely recommend this place.
