  • REACHING NEW HEIGHTS … THE TELSTRA TOWER The Telstra Tower is seen all around Canberra but is it worth going there? We thought so. It is something to do just once and perhaps best to pick a day which is clear blue skies, little to no wind and no rain. Located at the top of Black Mountain Reserve, the drive itself is lovely even a bit hairy at times. You see, Canberrians are extremely healthy people, they love their bicycles and that’s great. However, on a windy steep road lined with bush on each side, wildlife, flora and fauna and spectacular views, it’s hard to take note of all these things as you are dodging these healthy but crazy cyclists. At the top, there is plenty of parking and the Telstra Tower stands proud. There is an entry fee and a family ticket is just $17. Once you have paid, head through the turnstiles to the lifts which will take you to the enclosed viewing platform some 870 metres above sea level. There you will discover 360o panoramic views over Canberra and beyond. Another quirky edition is the red vintage post box. There is a café and plenty of seating. If you are feeling adventurous, head up the stairs to the 1st outdoor level with the same views but this time no glass blocking the view and there is another level above that. Only recommended when no rain and slight wind. When we were there, it was an overcast day but it was a nice experience all the same.

A short stay in Canberra

Quite tricky to find the letterboxes and more so to find the parking space - there's no logical numbering in the basement carpark. The apartment was modern and spacious - great to have 2 bathrooms for 4 people. Very nice view from the balcony overlooking the gardenwelm maintained gardens

Property listed a sofa bed but lounge was not a sofa bed, just a slightly larger lounge that was not comfortable. A few more instructions would also be useful, like underground parking, turn right at first intersection and then right to find parking spot, and that aerial cord for tv is across the room behind the lounge. Area was great and easy walk to great dining district with many choices. Some construction noise everyday, guess that can be unavoidable.

Very nice apartment, some simple improvements required

Excellent apartment that is in a new building. Two generous bedrooms and living area made our stay very comfortable. Possibly new to the short stay rental game, but literally nothing other than the bare minimum is supplied; eg. Oil, condiments, coffee, tea, decent cooking knives, etc. Nothing. The ensuite shower drains very slowly. Also, there is no information booklet for the occupant re important things like accessing the pool, what to do with rubbish, local shopping, restaurants, medical centres, chemists, etc. I had to constantly go back and forth with the owner to clarify basic things. Communication with the owner was problematic as we made numerous attempts to contact him via the VRBO app and directly in relation to shortening our stay by one night. All communication was "missed" until the full refund cut-off date was passed. We never intended on cancelling but were given no option for a night's stay refund either. Overall, it is a very good property in a decent location. The experience should only improve with more experience in this arena.

We had a short stay, apartment was not the cleanest but ok. Booked for 3 children and 2 adults but 1 had to sleep on the lounge. We had to buy all bedding for the lounge as not available adding to the expenses.

Spacious and well located.

The apartment had everything we needed. There was ample space to relax and cook. There was a washer / dryer and the heating was excellent. Most attractions we wanted to see were within a 10 minute drive.

Ok but not great apartment.

While it was a satisfactory apartment in most ways there were a few shortcomings. The main bed was too low and not the most comfortable. The TV was very difficult to operate. There was only one tea towel and the bath towels were just satisfactory.

Nice garden views

Convenient to city centre. Nice views over the garden from balcony, lounge & bedrooms. There were a few basic essentials in the pantry like salt, pepper, teas, cooking oils & cereals which were helpful. Would have been helpful to know where the letter boxes were. The only complaint was that the mattress in the main bedroom was not very comfortable for us otherwise very happy with our stay.

Communication was good. Place was dirty, needs a good clean had layers of dust everywhere, shower Matt was wet and filthy. Bed was one of worst we’ve slept in, cheap mattress could feel the springs and sheets like sand paper.

Great apartment in a nice complex with a great pool area. Unfortunately let down by the little details like apartment inclusions. There were empty toilet rolls, empty shampoo conditioner containers, not enough drinking glasses, towels etc. Also having to share 1 key across the group was tricky.

Good stay in a great apartment

Property itself is great. clean and spacious. Great neighbourhood. However, there were small things that could improve. There was no bin in the kitchen and extra towels for bathroom. Milk and coffee weren’t there. Used cereal boxes were in the pantry. Dishes were still in dishwasher so it was difficult to make out whether it was used by previous guests or were just being cleaned. Though the owner provided instructions for the checkin process, the instructions were not clear. For ex it said collect the key from the mail box, but where exactly were the mailboxes were unclear. Parking lot numbers are random and we struggled to find the spot.

Don't Bother

Sadly, this apartment needs a a thorough, deep, professional clean. It is filthy - greasy finger and hand prints on doors, TV, windows. Hairs and crumbs in drawers, dirty showers and bathmats that look like the previous 10 residents have used them. Revolting! Toilet rolls in both bathrooms had 6 sheets on them and empty toilet rolls in the drawers. Unfortunately, we were also woken by barking dogs every night in the complex and there were parties held in the communal garden on two nights. Only having one key is a huge problem if you are not spending all your time with the person sharing with you, as you cannot get in the building or use the lift without one. Could go on but won't bother. Enough said.
