My family and visited Madrid for my Father in law's 75th birthday. The RIU Plaza Espana was the perfect hotel, the location was in the heart of central Madrid with easy access to shopping, restaurants and landmarks. The experience was remarkable. From the doorman greeting you as you walk in, the great service at the front desk, delicious buffet breakfast and views from the glass floor lookout on thr 27th floor. I would recommend the hotel, myself and my family love it!

Probably the worst bed I have ever slept in — it was actually more comfortable to sleep on the floor. My whole family was surprised at how hard the beds were. Unfortunately, we also all suffered from food poisoning on the first day after eating at the restaurant and were very sick by the time we returned home. On a positive note, some of the staff were brilliant. They even sent me a piece of an amazing cheesecake for my birthday and were generally very helpful, although a couple of staff members had a poor attitude. Other than that, the hotel itself is beautiful. However, my last stay was nicer for some reason — the rooms were prettier, and the beds were better. When I asked, I was told that the beds had been changed since my last visit. The location is spectacular, and the lobby and small garden terrace are lovely. The tea and desserts are fantastic, but the main food could be better, especially for a Michelin guide restaurant.
