About this property
Gite Le Sabatou. Converted Barn, Private Pool, 15ha ASPAS Nature Park.
Gite le Sabatou. The Barn has an exposed beamed roof and terracotta floors throughout. An open plan spacious country kitchen, at one end of the barn, leads onto a covered dining terrace, with gas BBQ, overlooking the garden. In the middle of the barn is also a dining table and sitting area with sofas in front of the chimney. The main bedroom has a large double bed 160x200cm and a fold out sofa 130x190cm for small children. The main bathroom has a wide shower and separate bath tub. Above the main bedroom is a large open plan mezzanine with full size English snooker table and two single beds for older children. A second separate double bedroom, with en suite shower and wc, is on the ground floor of the main house (the owners home) with an independent entrance. This has a large double bed 180x200cm and a single bed 90x190cm. The garden and pool of the rental barn are orientated away from the owner's home. The 11m x 5m pool has a shallow area and deep end. Easy access stairs. Partly solar heated. Garden furniture. Utility Room: Washing machine. Bed linen provided but not towels. This is a self catering property which must be returned to the owner at the end of stay in a fully cleaned condition. A cleaning service is not provided.
ASPAS Nature Reserve. Previously wine rows interspersed with rows of lavender were grown on the slopes of the horse shoe shaped relief surrounding the property (sabata/zapato from which the present name derives). Since 1989 Gite Le Sabatou has flourished as a protected ASPAS nature reserve free from pesticides with the return of extraordinary wild flowers, particularly orchids and healing Bach plants. We have wild bees as well as feral honeybee populations. Most significantly is the butterfly reproduction area in the prairie with a growing population of the Large Blue Azuré du Serpolet.
Walking and Cycling Holidays
Foot paths head off directly from the Barn onto partially sign posted walking trails as well as the Chemin de Santiago de Compostella. An online guide is available. Immediately above the property on the plateau (locally called the “Causse”) is a partially restored stone windmill. From here it is possible to see the fully restored windmill at Bois and then further onto the 3 windmills of Castelnau-Montratier. These windmills are land mark features in the Quercy Blanc. Enthusiasts of off road cycling will find these paths create the perfect combination of gradients on low hill heights. For on road cycling this area offers quite, traffic free roads with picturesque villages to stop at for refreshment.
Medieval Hilltop Villages, local produce markets, cafes & restaurants.
The three surrounding medieval hilltop villages of Castelnau-Montratier, Montcuq and Lauzerte (8 to 17kms from Cezac) are some of Frances “most beautiful villages”. The local produce markets are a must to visit. Dates and times are provided. The Wednesday evening market at Castelnau-Montratier, for example, has live music and outdoor tables for dinning throughout July and August. This is the real France with children and teenagers running around the village square, old men playing “petanque” and wine intoxicated parents dancing. Restaurants and Cafes are in abundance to choose from everywhere. There is no need to ask for specific recommendations, you will discover these yourself.
Cahors Cahors is without question one of the most beautiful historic towns of France, set in the meander of the river Lot with the medieval Valantry bridge. Take a day or two to explore Cahors and its many back streets. Again the market on Wednesday or Saturday is a must.
Lot River Valley (East of Cahors) – Canoeing, Grotte de Peche Merle, St Cirque Lapopie.
A day trip to do along the overhanging sculpted cliffs of the Lot river valley. Visit the world famous prehistoric cave paintings in the refreshingly cool Grotte de Peche Merle at Cabrerets before going to explore the village of St Cirque Lapopie. Do not miss the restaurant “La Truite Doree” on the way at Vers for lunch.
A subsidiary of the Lot, the Cele valley and river are a nature paradise. Canoe hire is available by reservation. This is a day out on its own and will be a day for future family memories.
Lot Valley Wine Tasting
Along the valley east of Cahors is a concentration of wine chateaux and domains, traditionally the home of malbec grapes. This black wine area is another “must do” for a holiday at Le Sabatou. Mercues, Douelle, Luzech, Puy L’Eveque, Albas up to Fumel is full of Chateaux to discover, including Chateau Lagrezette, Chateau Chambert and the Chateau de Caix – the home of the French Prince of Denmark.
St.Antonin Nobel de Val & Canoeing
Another day trip to make, in a different direction taking the D820 through the hat making town of Caussade, is to St Antonin Noble de Val set in the spectacular gorges of the Averyon river. This small film setting medieval town is a delight to explore. The 9km stretch of river through the gorge is great family fun for canoe hire, swimming and jumping into the river.

We absolute loved staying at Le Grange and hope to return. The accommodation was stunning and set in a fabulous natural paradise. Clean, well equipped but full of so much character, it is perfect for a couple but would especially suit a larger party or family. Perfect for nature lovers and the pool was a must have in the heat we experienced. Thanks so much to Geoffrey and Girda for the warm welcome, it was lovely to meet you both and we hope very much to see you again.

Quiet, comfortable and spacious rural gite
The property is a characterful converted stone barn which is spacious and cool so the lack of aircon was not an issue even though there was a heat wave during our one week stay. It is located in the countryside and has ample space for parking in front of the main house. Geoffrey's mum Girda was a charming lady and very welcoming. As cat people we adored her collection of cats, although they were nervous about getting close. The pool is a short walk from the gite and was clean, totally private and with a shaded area which was much needed during our stay. The gite was well provided with plates, cutlery, kitchen utensils, seating and dining areas. The dishwasher proved useful and there is a fridge freezer, oven and washing machine. All of the regulations are clearly labelled around the gite in English and French and lots of cleaning products and utensils provided for the tenant's use. The bathroom was spacious with a powerful shower and a combi boiler for plentiful hot water. A covered patio attached to the gite is ideal for al fresco dining, together with a barbecue which we did not use. There is a mezzanine area, complete with snooker table which we also did not use. The TV has Sky TV with English programmes which was great for those evenings in with a bottle of wine. Castlenau, the nearest village, is a 15 minute cross country drive and has a Spar supermarket and a pleasant medieval square with two restaurants. The town of Cahors is a similar distance and is well provided for in all respects.
Beautifully restored barn in lovely natural setting, fantastic private pool, in the middle of lovely area of France.

exceptional accommodation
As others have mentioned, the barn is extremely well presented, well equipped and comfortable. We caught the end of the heatwave and as well as more manageable sunshine we also experienced some hefty thunderstorms and downpours. However one of the barns attractions for us was the undercover outside seating area which was very well furnished and a great spot for the evenings, rain or shine. The owners mother, Gerda, even wandered round to us in the middle of a thunderstorm to advise us about the Wi-Fi being knocked out. So thoughtful of her.
The swimming pool is a short stroll from the barn but is beautifully clean and a really good size and is surrounded by flowers.
The area is beautiful and we climbed up the nearby hill to watch the sunset which was stunning.
We saw plenty of deer around and the surrounding villages are all really pretty, we especially liked Montcuq and immensely enjoyed the Sunday market as well as returning for lunch another day.

Absolutely stunning gite
We have stayed in numerous gites over the years of varying quality - this beautiful converted barn surpassed them all. The accommodation was very comfortable (gorgeous bedrooms), it was very well-equipped - dishwasher, microwave, freezer, washing machine, etc. and we received a warm welcome. The snooker table was a hit with the teenagers! We would recommend Gite La Grange de Cezac to anyone of any age. The private pool is a real sun-trap from morning to evening, and the whole place is quiet, but close enough to some amazing towns and villages; some real "must-sees". We cannot recommend this holiday home highly enough - a really outstanding find (I think we'll try to come back)!

A pefect base for exploring
A quiet, comfortable base to explore the surrounding area with much more to see than you will have time for. Gerda was fantastically helpful suggesting places to go.
A wonderful, relaxing break.

Great stay at La Grange
The property was very good. It was spacious and clean with all the facilities we required. Set in a tranquil location it was a relaxing place to be. The owners' mother lives in an adjacent property and provided helpful advice but was not intrusive in any way. There is a great pool in a really hot sun trap. There were a number of small local villages to visit to eat or have a drink and watch the world go by. There is of course Cahors to visit which is interesting in its own right. If you drive a bit further then there are a number of tourist attractions.
Would we visit this property again? in short yes.

A Great Holiday
Thank you for a great holiday again. This is our second stay. We particularly like the spacious barn and its setting. We have now completed all the walks in the local guide provided by Geoffrey but look forward to repeating some of them again next year. The surrounding villages are full of local character and charm and are perfect for sitting outside for our lunch breaks.

La Grange
A beautiful spring break, very quite and peaceful, which was exactly what we wanted. The spring orchids were truly abundant and we watched the deer grazing in the meadow below the property at sunset. As a composer this was perfect for me. We look forward very much to coming back.

A fabulous place
We have had an excellent holiday and thought the barn conversion was fabulous. The property is very well maintained and the barn was comfortable and clean. We had 7 days of good hot sunshine which we didn't really expect at the end of September and spent most of our time at the pool. There are some beautiful villages nearby where we enjoyed the restaurants, particularly the Hotel du Quercy at Lauzerte.

Fantastic Holiday!
We really felt as though the barn was an excellent base to explore the Lot Department, as there are so many things to see all within an hour or so- the truly jaw-dropping Rocamadour and Les Gouffres de Padirac, the beautiful town of St. Cirq Lapopie, the prehistoric caves at Pech Merle, Tournons d'Agenais, etc. Cahors is only about 15 mins drive away, and is great for day trips- we recommend L'Auberge de Vieux Cahors for dinner- the food was great. Also try Hotel de Qercy in Lauzerte- delicious! Montcuq is only 10 mins away and has a superb market every sunday, and a pleasure lake with a sandy beach (plan d'eau). Carrefour supermarket is only 15 mins away on the drive into Cahors which was really handy.
We had a wonderful two weeks at Le Grange de Cezac. The converted barn oozes character and charm- we loved it from the moment we walked in. We were blown away by the sheer size of the barn, and the full size snooker table on the mezzanine level was a great touch for relaxed evenings. The owners of the barn Geoff and Gerda could not have been more welcoming and helpful, and whilst they gave us our space, they were on hand to help whenever we needed anything. We brought our nine month old daughter, and were pleased to see a lovely, sturdy cot ready for her, and a good high chair. The bedding was immaculate, the kitchen and all utensils were of a very good standard and also immaculate. The outside seating area next to the bbq was lovely for al fresco dining, and there was a 10 second walk through the garden to the private pool which was superb- we felt that the pool was one of the best features of the property- really deep deep end, and a good size. We saw eagles circling high above us as we floated in the cooling water- paradise. We went out for day trips, heading back to the barn around 4-5pm, which is the perfect time to enjoy the hot summer sun around the pool. We even had a surprise visit from a hummingbird!
We were really sad to leave the barn, and would definitely recommend it to anyone. It is simply a charming, characterful rural retreat that would suit a couple or a big family. The fact that it is near Cahors and there are so many great days out not too far away make the barn a very good base to explore the region, but not only that, it is also a lovely place to simply relax at home, enjoying the pool and the bbq.
We highly recommend it.

La Sabatou
The barn and its surrounding areas are very beautiful. The pool is a short distance from the barn and disabled travellers will struggle with the terrain. We used a wheelchair for transportation to and from this area. The barn is spacious and tidy but we did spend some time cleaning it upon our arrival. The upper levels are not suitable for those with disabilities. The property owners mother is very friendly and helpful and her cat adorable! The washing machine door requires attention and the toilet is at a very low level - again mindful for those with disabilities. A quiet, beautiful spot. Very relaxing and suitable for exploring the smaller villages. Cahors is a clean, typically French town. For those without disabiities and with older children a lovely holiday destination.

a paradise in the lot
The photographs on the web site really made me choose this property.
The barn was very spacious and clean. I especially liked the white colour scheme and the Provincal pottery which gave the barn a very French feeling.
The terrace had plenty of outdoor furniture.
The owner was very welcoming and helpful.
She also advised us on Sunday markets, activities and excursions we could take.
You can have a wonderful 3-course lunch with coffee and wine for 13 euros in the small local market towns. I especially liked the 2 restaurants in Castelnau Montratier. In Cahors we discovered a small vegetarian restaurant called Celine.
In the commune of Cezac there is an excellent resurfaced tennis court.
The countryside is completely unspoiled. Locally you can go for wonderful walks. From the top of the hill outside the barn you can see 2 valleys and watch the sunset. A magical sight.
I hope the countryside will remain unspoiled for ever. The barn is very good value for money.
I have recommend the barn to all my friends and relatives

the property was exactly as advertised and more so-
clean and well maintained.
The pool was a good size and in a beautiful location.
The owners mother lives in the neighbouring propertyand is
charming and helpfull.
The situation is very peaceful quite isolated -the flora and fauna are wonderful.
This is definitely a property for warm weather as inernally it is quite dark and cool.
Our only gripe was the non working television as we had some cool and wet evenings
