One Bedroom Converted Bread Oven - Perfect for two, read our guest reviews!

Le Vieux Fournil is a converted bakehouse, still with the original oven opening into the living space, providing that extra piece of interest and history to this wonderfully quirky building. The kitchen and bathroom are housed in the original woodstore and pig sty. The bedroom is converted from the hayloft although now the high ceiling is grandly adorned with its own chandelier! The cottage is located in the department of Mayenne in the north of the Pays de la Loire Region with its spectacular landscapes in the north and vast vineyards to the south. The house is 2 km’s from the historic town of Lassay-les-Châteaux which boasts one of the finest examples in France of a fortified medieval chateau. The town has many winding streets amongst which can be found examples of medieval living all situated just off the main Market Square where you will find shops, bars and restaurants. This is an ideal base for those seeking walking or cycling holidays in wonderful countryside or alternatively just a relaxing break from city life!

Honeymoon Heaven!
A gorgeous gite. Beautifully decorated, with so many lovely touches, and everything you could want to hand. The garden was so pretty and tranquil, and very private. Sandra and Paul were the perfect hosts.

Absolutely loved it. Property set in beautiful grounds and close to amenities
Was met by Sandra and Paul on arrival, very welcoming, showed us around the property and grounds, was close by if we needed anything. Sandra booked us a vet appointment for our dog which was really helpful. We stayed in the bread oven which was lovely, good sized enclosed garden for us and the dog. Would definitely recommend .

Amazing, relaxing holiday
Sandra and Paul’s attention to detail was faultless, they had thought of everything. A very nice touch was the wine basket where you could purchase wine without leaving the cottage 🤗. Location was very rural and ideal for exploring the French countryside, which was easy to navigate being complete novices. We have missed Barnaby’s friendly morning welcome. We had a fantastic time , completely chilling out and recharging our batteries, we would definitely recommend this cottage, Sandra and Paul were excellent hosts. Thank you 😎

French Love Affair
The cottage was everything you hope for when visiting rural France. Sandra and Paul had paid great attention to all aspects when furnishing the cottage and all was in perfect working order. They were very helpful with advice on visiting towns, restaurants etc and Lassay les Chateaux was a delightful town. The tour of the Chateau proved very interesting which ended with a demonstration of dressing with medieval armouring on one of the guides. It was a nice change to wake up to bird song instead of traffic.

Fabulous property in a beautiful area of France.
We stayed for a week in this fabulous property. It was beautifully furnished , exceptionally well equipped , spotlessly clean and had a stunning garden. The hosts were lovely and did everything they could to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. There was a welcome pack waiting for us on our arrival , including the most delicious home made jam . There were lots of little touches around the place which were thoughtful and delightful . Even the dog was super friendly. The surrounding area was beautiful and there were lots of things to do and places to visit. The property has a fabulous huge garden with plenty of places to sit, eat and lie in the sun. We really enjoyed it and would recommend it for perfect holiday.

Brilliant Holiday
We had a great stay with Sandra and Paul and spent as much time in their beautiful garden as we did in the cottage. Nothing was too much trouble and we really appreciated Sandra booking the vet appointment for our dog. It was so peaceful and relaxing and we would definitely recommend it. My only regret is that I didn't check the time of our ferry more carefully and we wouldn't have had to leave in the middle of the night after all! Best wishes to you both (and Barnabe). Beautiful gite and lovely hosts
Small but really clean and well presented with every facility you could want: comfortable bed, great shower, lovely garden and, if the weather is bad (yes, that did happen, sadly), a dvd library to rival Netflix. Sandra and Paul are really friendly and helpful if required and Barney's cheerful wag always put a smile on our faces when we got back.

Pretty, peaceful and relaxing !!!!
The cottage is beutiful and done to such a great standard. Paul and Sandra are such lovely hosts and willing to help us with anything during our stay. The restaurant they recommended and booked for our wedding anniversary was first class. The surrounding towns are pretty and peaceful. This place will certainly makes you wind down and relax for the week. Hope to return again one day. Thank you Olivia , Neil and Hugo 🐾 Xx
