Stayed in a tatami room - very spacious and comfortable. The shikibuton (on floor) felt more like a thicker camping air mattress and was a bit too firm to be comfortable and pillow felt like the same material, but the kakebuton (comforter/duvet) was fluffy, warm, and luxurious. The white cotton pajamas were clean, crisp and super comfortable. The common areas in the hotel: the decor was outdated but nice enough but no hangout areas conducive to hanging out. Location was great in terms of convenience; just a few minutes walk to the train station.
Feels and smell a bit old, and our room was quite small, but it was a good experience overall. The hotel itself, with all its different halls, chapel, restaurants, bar, etc. is amazing even just to visit! The staff was great and amazingly friendly and passionate about the hotel!
