"This is our second time back to the Palacio do Freixo, and it is the most fantastic and elegant place. The hotel and grounds are palatial, but the staff and service is the key to the elegance of our stay and experience there. I’m so regretful that I cannot recall the name of the man at the front desk who checked us in, but he was so extraordinarily helpful and professional, getting us reservations for a river cruise. We have the highest recommendations for the hotel, and our stay was elegant beyond belief. The bellman who took up our bags to the room had been there last year to help us as well, and was so high end and professional."

"Front desk staff was welcoming and extremely helpful. Breakfasts, and breakfast staff were very good. Housekeeping was also very good. Views from the hotel were beautiful and the location is excellent. Parking was relatively easy. Hotel pool and surrounding area was very tired looking and needed umbrellas or some sort of shaded area and decor. Rooms were very dated and carpet was very worn. We booked three rooms and two of the couples commented that their beds were uncomfortable and needed to be replaced. All of us felt that it was a good place to go if you are only staying for a short time. At one time this hotel would have been stunning. With some renovations it could be a real gem again."

"This was one of the best hotel stays I’ve ever had. This is not a 5 star hotel, but it’s absolutely a 5 star experience. The entire staff was incredibly helpful and welcoming. We had a massage, used the complimentary sauna, enjoyed the included mini fridge items, and had breakfast in bed. The art is thoughtful and fun. The room is gorgeous, very well curated and comfortable. Don’t miss the pillow menu for your preferred fill and firmness. We stayed at the garden level and it was peaceful and felt very private on our patio. The neighborhood is quiet at night, close to the train station but also very central to the areas of town we wanted to see. Everything was very clean, they even mopped the pool deck nightly and wiped down all the glass. The staff is far and away the standout above all. They heard we were celebrating an anniversary and brought a bottle of sparkling wine and a handwritten card. They helped with suggestions on where to go, how to get there, and what to avoid. They said if our room wasn’t ready for our 1:30pm arrival that they would store the bags and let us use the amenities (spa/pool), but of course the room was ready and we checked in immediately. Special shoutout to João who welcomed us. I will recommend this hotel to everyone I know that’s coming to Portugal and suggest that they make a stop in Porto if they weren’t already planning on it just to experience this hotel."
