About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Detached boutique-style cottage and garden, walking distance to town, sleeps 4.

With flexibility on arrival day and a minimum of a 3 night stay, this tastefully decorated cottage, available all-year round, is fully equipped and suitable for couples, solo guests, business travellers, and families (regret not suitable for children under 6 years of age). The house has fast broadband, free wi-fi included, and French and British TV and free Netflix on a new Smart TV. If you are here for work, we now have a work station and chair, complete with USB and ethernet connections. There are two pretty bedrooms, one double and one twin, a bathroom and two WCs. The private garden with seating area is loved by our guests as is the eating area, BBQ and 'quiet corner'. Sun-loungers and deck-chairs complete the exterior layout.

Note; price is all-inclusive, no extra cleaning or electricity charge. Linen and towels included and heating in the winter. A new eco-friendly heat pump has been installed for winter months, which is reversible in the summer to offer air-conditioning. There is also a cosy traditional log burner and we supply the first night's logs free of charge. A welcome pack is proving popular with our guests.

This is a spacious cottage within walking distance of the historic town centre and a few metres from the River Charente. The new leisure centre with two swimming pools (heated, one indoor, one outdoor) and gym is just a 5 minute stroll away. The house is fully equipped for all-year-round stays, complete with garden furniture and BBQ you can just relax away from the stresses of every day life. A five minute walk brings you to the heart of Civray with its bars, restaurants, boulangeries, private cinema, shops, new leisure centre with two swimming pools. Alternatively, you can stroll along the River Charente that flows through the town. If you fancy travelling out of town, you are on the edge of beautiful rural France with its fields of sunflowers, woodland and meadows. Local attractions include 'La Vallée des Singes" (Monkey Valley) where you can walk among the apes, set in a beautiful park. Futuroscope at nearby Poitiers is the largest attraction in France after Disneyland Paris and hosts a science and media-interactive park, events and concerts. A visit to nearby L'Isle Jourdain allows the adventurer in you to bungee jump off the famous viaduct, but if you don't fancy that a stroll along the river and lunch in the charming town is equally as enjoyable.

Other pretty towns abound including Ruffec, Niort, and Angouleme where each year there is an historic car race and rally that runs around the ancient ramparts of the town. A must for vintage car enthusiasts! Cognac with its tours of tasting houses is just an hour away and La Rochelle on the coast just 1 1/2 hours. This really is an excellent base for exploring any part of France. Even Paris is only 1 1/4 hours away by fast TGV train boarding this direct service at nearby Poitiers,or pick up a locol train at nearby St. Saviol The service also takes one directly into the terminals at Charles de Gaulle airport
.If watersports are your thing, there is canoeing available at nearby Le Rejallant with canoeruffec.fr, in the summer months. Or why not have a peaceful morning's fishing in the river or nearby Lakes? Licences are readily available locally.
There are several excellent local restaurants, just let us know if you would like us to book on your behalf.
The town street lights go out at 10 pm, so this is perfect for star-gazing while you relax in the garden.

The hosts have done a great job in making this cottage really comfortable and have thought of everything-even down to the nespresso coffee machine, which I thought I was going to miss. We went for lunch at Hotel du Commerce on Sunday and I suffered food poisoning all day Monday and some of Tuesday so we came home without viewing any sights.

lovely cotage
very pretty little cottage hidden away just a few minutes walk from the centre of Civray. Fabulous welcome pack. The cottage was very welcoming with the lights on, table set and a lovely ambience. Great location for travelling to lots of beautiful villages. We visited Sarlat, Domme, Beynac and Rocamdour in the Dordogne and St Emillion, Ile De Re and the Puy Du Fou all highly recommended. We would highly recommend this property.

Stylish, well equipped and in a good location
We stayed here for 7 days in September. Mike called us when we were en route to explain how to find the keys etc, and he popped by later to say hi. The gite has everything we needed. The water pressure in the shower is good & strong, the appliances are up-to-date and complement the traditional feel of the house. The Welcome Pack of wine, bread & butter was enough on it’s own, but they added some pâté, milk, orange juice and cheeses - and a chocolate on our pillows as a nice surprise! Nice & quiet, and a short walk to the town centre. Be careful if you have anything larger than a mid-size vehicle as the driveway is a tight fit, so parking at the foot of the hill might be the better option. We’re more than happy to recommend La Maison Muguet. And don’t miss a walk to Le Lich’ Bar in the evenings. It’s great fun & very friendly!

November break.
Very comfortable gite. Was lovely to have the log burner lit after a day exploring the local area. We really appreciated the “yummy goodies” provided by Frances and Mike upon our arrival. A lovely relaxing week, with Civray being a great base for exploring the local towns and villages.

Comfortable Cottage
Very clean, most comfortable and pleasant accommodation in a central location! The owners welcome gifts were a delightful touch! The cottage was superbly equipped with everything you could possibly need during a stay there. Lovely to have a log fire one rather cool evening too! Off road parking but quite a tight spot! We enjoyed our stay….many thanks.

We like the coziness and warmness that property offered to us every morning and every evening when we came back. We like the enclosed garden where we spent time reading books and making notes after trips to nearby cities. We cannot say what we don't like because we like everything Francis and Mike prepared thoughtfully for us, starting with a bottle of wine and selection of cheese to small chocolates on the bed. I don't know what one cannot find in this house: there are everything one gets to enjoy the vacation.

Lovely house in a good location. Very well equipped.
Just spent a lovely week in Civray exploring the area. The house was an ideal base to do this and very comfortable and well equipped, including a welcome pack. There was even central heating, which unfortunately we needed as it was cold and wet for early June. The house was cosy though, with a lovely garden. It was also nice not to be limited to Saturday changeover so we could take advantage of cheaper flights. Would recommend.

Perfect retreat in a small town
The whole experience from start to finish has been a pleasure at this beautiful gite. It’s central location made it the perfect spot to return to each night after exploring the many attractions that the area has to offer. The gite is tastefully decorated and has all the amenities that you could possible need (and many more) from the gorgeous garden to sip a glass of wine after taking a nice soak in the bath before retiring in front if the fire.

Marvellous cottage, marvellous welcome
Frances and Mike were wonderful hosts - nothing was too much trouble, including the rapid replacement of a fitting that a previous visitor had broken. The cottage has been set up with taste and is very well equipped. It is in a quiet corner of the village which has all the facilities anyone could want. We were house-hunting and our hosts were even able to help us there too. Highly recommended.
