We recently stayed at Heron's Nest in Clearlake because I had spent summers there as a child and was wanted to go back. I wanted a central location, close to Hwy 20 and with a view of Mt. Konocti and the place fit that perfectly. When we arrived we did have trouble finding the place because it was up such a steep hill which doesn't look like a road but we were able to find it. It was a little challenging in a smaller vehicle because the area surrounding the property is gravel and on a slope so be aware. We also had trouble with the lock box on the door, it seemed to be jammed but were able to get it. When we got in the place it was simple, but clean and perfect for what we needed. We brought our own food and were able to cook meals there. Most items we needed were there (most basics), but you will need to bring all food items you need to cook. We forgot oil and cooking spray and most of the pans are not non-stick. There is only salt and pepper on site. The internet, t.v., and heater worked great. I just wish there would have been some games or family materials for the evening, we flew up there so couldn't take those supplies and there is only the t.v. I saw in a previous review about the sheets seeming old like they had the little balls from too much washing. It was noted that they had been replaced but I noticed the same thing on our sheets and the comforter has been well used. Also, my husband used the bbq one of the nights but the bbq was unclean from previous users and was very flimsy (we were afraid it might break on us). There was propane and utensils so we were able to cook our meal. I would say the place is very simple with minimal amenities but overall a good, relaxing place. If you hike up the hill to a meadow by the property you get a great view of Mt. Konocti. We even saw two deer and wild turkeys and enjoyed our stay.
