Buttermilk is an excellent choice for a visit to Clifden. An easy 10 minute walk to town with superior rooms, excellent breakfast choices, and a comfortable sitting room qith a turf fire.

This is a great spot to stay in in Clifden, which is a charming, lively little town with good restaurants, stores and music venues. It is a short walk into town…maybe 10 minutes tops. The facility is well run, clean and very comfortable. The breakfast is outstanding. The rooms are quiet and very nice.

This was our favorite lodging during our visit to Ireland. Patrick and Cathriona were lovely and helpful in providing useful information. The grounds were pretty and the room was comfortable. Breakfast was outstanding! It was an easy 5 minute walk to the center of town. I would absolutely stay here again!

Cousins on the move
Excellent property, great breakfast options, very comfortable. Parking is easy, the town is close. We were able to go to Town Hall for an evening of Irish dance and music.

Absolutely wonderful place. The owners are delightful people, the place is charming, Clifden city center is easily walkable, breakfast has lots of options and was delicious, and the property is quiet and secluded. The owners have thought of everything, including which places in town have music and having copies of menus for restaurants in town. The common room is also quite comfortable and my son and I spent plenty of time there playing cards in between our adventures in the area. I can’t recommend this place enough!

Highly recommend. We stayed in the triple room, which was very spacious, thoughtfully laid out and decorated, very updated room and bathroom. Bedding is comfortable, room is very clean, and Cathriona is helpful and kind. We had our laundry done and it was very reasonable, very fast (we dropped it off late afternoon and it was done by early evening), and smelled so fresh. Breakfast is plentiful and delicious. Walking into town is great, there is a quiet lane that pops you right out at the town center. Leaving from Buttermilk to hit the main highlights (Connemara National Park, Kylemore Abbey, Leenaun) is very convenient as the lodge is located right on that road. Our room was very quiet, overlooked a field where we spotted a couple of ponies grazing. When we come back again (and we plan to!) we're definitely staying here.

This is my favorite inn of all the B and AB’s I’ve stayed in the world over four decades of travel. I keep coming back because of the attention to guest needs, the fabulous breakfasts and the proximity to the Clifton Arts Festival venues.

Honestly, i am a little surprised by how well this place is rated. The condition is older, the beds were rock hard, and our shower had terrible water pressure. The hostess was great about all that she did for us but service was definitly not with a smile. They were willing to do our laundry for a fee which was greatly appreciated and done well. I wouldn't choose to stay there again probably.

Hello Ki, we are very surprised to read your review. Our beds are medium/ firm , normally they are complimented, we have never had them called rock hard. You told me about the water pressure in one room when you were leaving and when we checked it, it was normal. I served tea cake etc on arrival and told you about the local restaurants / bars, music sessions etc. We can only say sorry if we didn't meet your expectations, this is not the norm.

This is a lovely, cosy place to stay. The room was clean and very comfortable. I was given coffee and refreshments as soon as I checked in and the breakfast is delicious. It’s in a super convenient location, only a short walk outside of town. Would definitely recommend!

We visited Ireland as a 40th birthday celebration for my husband. Cathriona had a catd and candy waiting for him in our room. We went in March and it was still a little chilly outside. There was a beautiful peat fire burning for us and we both enjoyed coffee sitting next to it. The guesthouse was lovely and bed was very comfortable. It is a very convenient location too. Just a short walk to the town. Cathriona had a list of live Irish music for us for the night and her recommendations were grand! If we ever have the pleasure to return to Ireland we will be staying there again for sure!

Cozy comforts
This was a one night stay while we drove around the Connemara peninsula. The Buttermilk Guest Lodge provided us with warm, clean, quiet accommodations within a walkable distance to the town center. Breakfast was good and provided plenty of options. This was a larger facility than others we had stayed at yet kept a cozy homelike feel equipped with a common sitting room for all guests and even a lit fireplace at night.

The day we arrived was my partners birthday and we had recently gotten engaged the week before. Upon finding out this news the hosts left complimentary chocolates and bottle of champaign in our room which was such a beautiful gesture and made our holiday all the more memorable. I was in contact with the hosts before arriving to ask for suggestions on where to take my partner for dinner for his birthday and they were so accomodating in recommending restaurants, offering to book the restaurant and taxi for us it was wonderful! The breakfasts are AMAZING! much more like a fancy cafe breakfast than a BnB, best BnB breakfast we have ever had. The rooms are good size for a BnB, clean, neat, comfortable. The fireplace in the entry room is lovely to sit by and we personally loved the quirky "cow touches" as decorations everywhere. Would return in a heartbeat and hope to again soon!

Everything we wanted
Our 2 nights at Buttermilk Lodge were very enjoyable. The location was great in two ways - the walk to the center of Clifden was pleasant and took only 5 or 10 minutes, and the proximity to the Connemara area for day trips couldn't have been better. Our room was homey (with a cow and buttermilk theme) and bright. Reading lights next to the bed were appreciated. Of course, the breakfast bar and breakfast specials were excellent. Easy to recommend this accommodation.

Wonderful B&B, amazing breakfast
We loved our stay at the Buttermlk Lodge. The accommodations were much nicer than expected, with a large and very comfortable room. The location was perf3ct - a 10 minute stroll into town. The best part was the breakfast - it was by far the best we’ve had on our trip to Ireland. I would absolutely stay here again if I’m fortunate enough to be back in Clifden.

Trad music haven near Connemara
Super friendly staff, excellent food, great tips for local things to do / see / eat / drink / listen, a very friendly neighborhood of restaurants and pubs, all within a short walk that’s well outlined in walking guides available in-room and explained by your host.
