This former physician’s residence and private hospital has been lovingly and painstakingly restored and renovated to house a bed and breakfast inn. The modernization of the rooms has been done in a way that preserves the original design and period when it was first constructed. We stayed in the Alfred suite - a large bedroom with comfortable king-sized, four-poster canopy bed, and a period replica spiral stair to a small loft - and found it comfortable and pleasant. Hosts were knowledgeable about the history and renovations of the building. My apologies to the hosts for our late arrival - please arrive early to fully appreciate the gardens and grounds a well-maintained English garden with mature hedgerows, flowers and shrubbery. Breakfast was delicious, and several choices were available - better than is sometimes offered in B&Bs. Street parking is plentiful. Cobden location was suitable for a short drive to the Twelve Apostles in the morning, and exploration of the Great Ocean Road.

What I'm going to say is going to be icing on the cake, but I still have to say it! Heytesbury House is THE BEST B&B I've ever been in my life! It beats any five star hotels I've ever stayed at as well. In any appreciative eye, you'll see the efforts and love Kathryn and Andrew put in the place. The design, decoration and maintenance are all done in perfection. This place stands for perfection. No doubt. The house menu they have is a must mention too. It's very thoughtful of them to provide meal options during the Christmas season. We checked there was nothing in Cobden during this time, so we brought sandwiches. We didn't really want to have those sandwiches, so it was music in my ears when Kathryn said 'we have a dinner menu...' It was a brilliant experience having dinner in their dining room! Me and my man we loved Heytesbury House. I can't believe we only paid $236 for the stay and $36 for the Christmas dinner. I wish I live near by, so I could go back more often!

This old world charming property was a delight to enjoy while staying here. The attention to detail, cleanliness and friendly hospitality was pleasant. We had a delicious breakfast served to our elegantly laid table in the beautifully decorated dining room that was filled with beautiful antique furniture. We had the choice of hot or continental breakfast with cafe style cofees. In the evening there's options for light food if you don't want to venture out. Devonshire tea is also available. Recommend this establishment.

Lovely restored old doctors residence
Lovely stay, renovation of 1904 residence is very high standard. Bathrooms and sitting rooms comforably modised. Made welcome on arrival. Gardens beautiful. Cobden lovely neat town. Recommend meal at Thomsons pub.

Fantastic BnB.
Our overnight stay was fantastic, the owners are very welcoming and accommodating, very comfortable bed great room with everything we needed, including a private courtyard, very quiet, the whole house has so much character, lots of things to read and look at about the history of the place, we had a delicious breakfast in the morning, we will be back.

We were UNWELCOME AND BAD-VIBED the moment we arrived with a non-friendly man, maybe he didn't like the colour of my partner's skin because he wasn't even slightly warm when we were smiling and pleasant on arrival. The host however, the next morning really shocked us, Kathryn. She was SO RUDE!! She made my partner so uncomfortable for requesting breakfast at 9.24am when breakfast was between 8 and 9.30am. We were still within time, maybe only just but still within. We asked for it to be brought to our room very kindly (due to insomnia) then it arrived with a bang on the door, followed by a clear, harsh instruction to not do this again the following morning. I barely ate, was so shocked and tossed with the idea of leaving for hours the next day, feeling so wrong being there!! We don't understand when we were so nice and paid so much that we were treated like this. We felt that clearly they didn't want us there, that better we book a new place and when we requested even a part refund we were told we left it too late and charged us FULL price. I think they are too old for the business to deal with a minor request and make you feel small when you do. I would somewhat respect them, had they not taken almost $500 for 2 nights that we barely touched. Very bad experience. Go elsewhere people where service has a smile and treat you like a person not a dollar sign!!!

How very disappointing that you felt the need to assume that the colour of your partners skin had any impact whatsoever on your Heytesbury House experience. Whenever possible we do endeavour to accommodate our guests needs, and when you requested breakfast in bed we certainly ensured that was provided to you. I am sorry however that you interpreted our communication as rude, when we were merely explaining to you that the next morning we had a full dining room booked and would not be able to bring you your breakfast to consume in bed. Advising you to arrive before the kitchen closed at 9:30 was meant to ensure you, and every other guest, didn’t miss out on our made to order cooked breakfast options. Having spent the entire day here, and walking out at 7pm without communicating with us directly, left us totally unaware that you were unhappy until we received a phone call from Expedia. There was no opportunity for us to rectify what was clearly a misunderstanding, and when we tried to communicate at length with you post your departure, you made it very clear that your single aim was to ruin our reputation. Once again, we are very sorry if you feel slighted in any way, and wish to categorically state that everyone is welcome here. We are committed to providing the same high standard of professionalism to EVERY guest that stays with us. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your time away.

The gorgeous old world charm of the garden and house. The room we stayed in was gorgeous and the little side verandah is the perfect spot to sit back and relax , where you can take in the lovely private garden. Kathryn our host has an eye for detail and your every need is catered for. It was a peaceful and relaxing stay. I would definitely recommend staying.

We stayed in the Suite 1 for a night. The room was well maintained and comfortable. Old furniture and house, with electrical candles and wireless charger, a perfect mixture of history and modern lifestyle. Service was also fantanstic. Simply the best I could find around Cobden.

We enjoyed the stay. Our breakfasts were outstanding. Our room was on small side but comfortable. The public areas were generous. Unfortunately Cobden has few facilities and no evening restaurant. Perhaps some thought could go into this situation as in poor weather it would be good to have some “stay at home” option.

Gorgeous Heritage Stay
We happened upon Heytesbury when looking for last minute accomodation while visiting family nearby. As soon as the booking was made the owners contacted us by phone to let us know that the dining area would be undergoing renovation during our stay and would not be available, in case that would trouble us. It was not at all a problem, and our lovely breakfast was delivered to us in our room on the morning of our stay. The property is absolutely delightful and very beautifully maintained. The rooms are very comfortable and the grounds are immaculate. We were made to feel very welcome and most definitely would return again. Thank you.

Katherine made us feel welcome immediately and the room was beautiful with its own courtyard. Everything was first class, furnishings, toiletries, towels and food. Just perfect. Worth going off the Great Ocean Riad to stay here.
