Tweedwood | Lakefront Log Cabin | Off-Grid Boreal Retreat | Fire Pit & Dock

Perched on the shore of North Tweed Lake in Northern Ontario's boreal forest, Tweedwood Cabin is where you fish for northern pike off your own dock, roast s'mores under a sky full of stars, and actually unplug. No WiFi — just a fire pit, a private dock, and an indoor fireplace. Perfect for families or couples seeking a true wilderness escape.
The lake is motor-free and entirely private — no boat traffic, no neighbours, no noise. The large dock is your base: swim off it, do yoga on it, or just lie in the sun. Paddle across the lake, hike into the surrounding wilderness, or keep an eye out for birds. In late summer, wild blueberries grow right on the property.
After a day on the water, the cabin pulls you in — hand-hewn walls, a crackling fireplace, and a sunroom that looks straight out over North Tweed Lake. Cook dinner in the fully-equipped kitchen and eat it with that view. Evenings here tend to slow down on their own.
The campfire is where the night eventually leads. The stars out here are something else, and the northern lights make an appearance often enough to be worth watching for. If it rains, there's a collection of classic films inside.
The cabin is off-grid — electricity comes from a reliable generator, hot water is always on tap, and cell service is solid. There's an indoor three-piece bathroom and a classic Canadian outhouse. Getting here is easy: paved highway all the way, then a gravel driveway straight to the door.
Cochrane is 120 km (75 miles) away — stock up on groceries and gas before you head north, and note that the nearest hospital is there too. Toronto is 800 km (500 miles) south; New York City, Chicago, and Indianapolis are all about 950 miles. It's a commitment to get here, which is exactly the point.
Bob will meet you at the cabin, walk you through everything, and make sure you're set up before heading out. After that, the place is yours. If anything comes up, he's a phone call or text away.

Northern Get Away

My family completely enjoyed are five day stay. Property is as described. Quaint cabin, idealic atmosphere, excellent location to explore area. Bob was very helpful and a pleasure to deal with. Really appreciated walking through the lovely and pristine Boreal forest trails. Wild life in abundance, enjoyed bird watching and saw bears on more then one occasion. A pair of hiking shoes or boots are a good idea. The forests are carpeted in a lovely moss that can obscure what's beneath, and turning an ankle would really put a damper on your getaway. Looking out every morning at the beautiful and very private lake, with not another property to be seen, was food for the soul. Echoing loons calling and beautiful sunrises. At night the skies come alive with vibrant stars and northern lights. If your into fishing, there are Pike(16-20") in abundance. I explored the lake by canoe and had a great time flyfishing. We came up late summer and didn't find the bugs much of a problem, I suspect that might be more of a challenge earlier in the season. SUV is not necessary for the property, but our Highlander did come in handy for some near by eexploring.exwercomforbexploring.

This cabin was exactly the experience we were looking for, total solitude in the wilderness. Despite its remote location, this home has many of the amenities we are accustomed to in the suburban settings here in the northeastern United States, even complete phone connectivity (AT&T) via Rogers. The space is quite spacious, peaceful, and comfy. Aside from the other activities, you will have a lake all to yourself and the fishing (northern pike) is amazing. There is hiking all over that area and another lake right across the path. There are so many things to do there, that unfortunately we ran out of time. I wish we had one more week. There is a lot of wildlife in the area, and because of the tremendous activity during this sun cycle, as we experienced, you have a good possibility of seeing the Aurora Borealis during this period. I was able to take photographs on three nights while also enjoying the fire pit. As Bob recommended, we explored a sandy beach a few miles up the road, and that was great to cool off. The host was extremely honest, helpful and communicative. Bob went above and beyond to make sure we had all we needed for a comfortable and enjoyable visit. In addition, he provided a welcome basket filled with different items for my girls. Truly appreciated. We had a fantastic vacation that truly worked out for us.
