About this property
BEAUTIFUL ELK MOUNTAIN RANCH ADJOINS OVER 2 MILLION ACRES OF NATIONAL FOREST!
This magnificent and spacious home has 6 bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths. The unique setting of this home is at the confluence of two streams and surrounded by pristine natural beauty to stir your heart. Like a painting come to life with romantic rock bridges, quaint stone steps and walls, lush pastures, fruit trees, flowers and jade-green ponds; this is a dream come true! This enchanting home is located at the gateway into the vast National Forest. This 150 Acre ranch is surrounded on three sides by U.S. Forest land; 2 1/2 Million Acres extending to Montana and Canada! There are deer, elk, moose, bear, wolves, bald eagles, wild turkeys, and ermine on or visiting this ranch; and we have maintained the property as a wildlife preserve. There are no visible neighbors and this is a place of serenity, peace and complete quiet except for nature!
The two streams are Marie Creek, which has high water in the Spring and early summer, along with several large pools of water and log waterfalls into mid-July. By early to mid-August, Marie Creek goes underground by the ranch. It continues to run above the ranch in the National Forest. Searchlight Creek runs the north-south length of the ranch and in front of the house. Searchlight Creek runs year round and is a perfect creek for children to play in the creek and the pools.
Home is 4,000 S.F with 6 Bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths, 2 Stone Fireplaces and a great Western Decor!
Elk Mountain Ranch was homesteaded in 1908 and the Deed is signed by President Theodore Roosevelt, on display at ranch. The center of the current house was built in 1930, and retains much of the charm of that time period. The later additions are very western and rustic.
This family ranch was offered as a Vacation Rental beginning May 1, 2014 for the first time. The furnishings and décor are that of a high quality, Western motif reflective of the love we have for this beautiful ranch.
The ranch is 150 acres with access into the National Forest. You can pan for gold in the creek! We now have a fire pit and provide firewood for your use! You can bring your Mountain Bikes, ATV's, Snowmobiles or Cross Country Skis and stay for a fun-filled vacation summer or winter! We do provide sleds for our awesome sledding hill and snowshoes to use on the ranch or into the adjacent National Forest land. We now have 2 full size Tipis, beautifully hand painted with native designs which are great for photos, overnight sleeping, for children to play inside or for quiet meditation.
Elk Mountain Ranch is also a private trout hatchery comprised of three separate spring-fed ponds where they are raised from fingerlings to full size adult trout which in turn, spawn, and continue the cycle. We provide trout food for our guests for which the trout which put on a spectacular show! We allow absolutely no fishing on the ranch and breaking this rule will forfeit one's damage deposit. Only the bald eagles and osprey fish unhindered; and we want our guests to enjoy all this majesty of nature.

Awesome property. Clean, well taken care of. Dogs were very happy, Kitchen was amazing. We had great family dinners. Would highly recommend a vacation to this property. We plan on returning.
The owners, Mike and Susan were the nicest, most accommodating. This property will take your breath away if you love nature and simple rustic charm of ranch living. Plenty to do for all…we enjoyed s’mores, pet fish ponds were a hit, walking the property to see all it had to offer. Keep your eyes peeled for the deer wandering pastures.
Very much enjoyed our stay. What a great place, scenery, creeks, ponds, trails and mountains. A ranch house that takes a full day to explore. It even snowed a little, so we were able to use the sledding hill. Plenty of things for kids to do. Will definitely try to get back there again.
We had our family at this wonderful property for the holiday. Loved the cold weather and beautiful outdoors for hiking!!! Great for large groups and very well stocked house!!!
This property is like being in a movie. It's gorgeous. The house is very unique. Beds are comfy. Good hikes. Quiet. House is well stocked. Hosts are wonderful.
Excellent stay - Susan was such a good communicator and had the place all decorated and perfect for our early Christmas gathering. Loved the location and all the space. Loved the fish ponds and sledding hill, absolutely perfect the outdoorsy family.
Elk mountain ranch is our favorite vacation rental. So many things to do for all ages. Lots of hiking, feeding the pet trout, puzzles for all ages, games, videos and a fire pit to gather in the afternoon or evening. The kitchen is stocked with anything needed and more. We will be back!
Our stay was wonderful, being to explore, see wildlife and the beautiful area that surrounds this ranch was welcomed get away. Being able to feed the fish was something that we looked forward to each day.
This would be a fantastic place for families in the summer and early fall - kids would have a great time here! Amazing amount of supplies available and multiple spaces.
Recommend!
The owners of this property could not have been nicer or more accommodating. They even leave a stocked pantry. The outside is the best we had many great adventures feeding fish, walking and have bond fires.
We had a great time and the kids loved feeding the fish, the dress up closet and the tee pees. Lots of outside space to explore. Just a fun family getaway and lots of memories were made. Thank you tons!!!
Elk Mountain Ranch is a wonderful place for families to get get together to have fun and relax. There is a little bit of everything. Of course our favorite part was spending time with family over Christmas, but we also enjoyed feeding the trout and deer, paylung foosball, cozying up to the warmth of a fire, the beautiful scenery. Mike and Susan are wonderful hosts that make your stay comfortable and have great communication.
When you drive up it looks so quaint and serene. Picturesque with the snow all around.
Had fun feeding the fish in the pond and walking around the property.
Made a great for a great Christmas.
Beautiful relaxing home. It had so much to offer, fully stocked kitchen, game room to watch tv or just relax. Feed the trout and walking the trails. We hade fun watching deer, squirrels, turkeys and birds
Nine family members stayed here and had a wonderful time. Everything we needed was there from a fully stocked kitchen, pantry, lots of supplies, toys and games, plenty of towels, blankets, etc. We enjoyed feeding the trout, eating pancakes from batter provided, and visiting the area. Cell phone connection was iffy but the remoteness was so nice. Great communication from owners and good instructions.
We had a wonderful time! The property is amazing! It was fun to feed the trout, we did lots of hiking, and we were lucky the weather was beautiful. We also enjoyed having a bonfire each night. And everything was explained very well to us by the owners with great communication. If we are in need of another VRBO in that area, we will definitely stay again.
We stayed for the weekend of our sons military comissioning and graduation from college. The property was beautiful, relaxing, well kept, fun and super clean.
The hosts were great, the house was super cool. We will definately be back back when we can spend more time at the property.
They have so many items for kids and family fun. What an amazing experience.
We were all looking forward to seeing the property based on the description, but were amazed to find it so much more spectacular than we imagined.
The house is a treasure trove of amenities, the grounds were an adventure to explore.
Communication with the hosts was great, they helped us find a place to take the kids fishing
