Meet Your Hosts – Monica & Hector!
Hi there! We’re Monica and Hector, your hosts at Joey’s Place. Our journey started in 2012 when we moved from Colombia to Tasmania, looking for a better future for our son and new opportunities for ourselves. This beautiful island quickly became home, and we’ve loved every moment of our adventure here.
We’ve been in tourism and hospitality since the very beginning, starting out as housekeepers and hosts in 2012. Over the years, we’ve dedicated ourselves to creating welcoming, comfortable stays for guests just like you. We now have the privilege of managing Joey’s Place on behalf of the owners, making sure everything is perfect for your visit.
For us, hosting with purpose means going beyond just providing a place to stay—we genuinely care about your experience and want you to feel at home. If you ever need anything—whether it’s help with the house or a recommendation on what to see and do—we’re just a phone call away!
For any questions or concerns, give us a call.
Welcome to Joey’s Place—enjoy your stay! 😊
Welcome to Joey’s Place!
We’re so happy to have you here! This house has been in our family since 1989 when we moved from Victoria to start a new chapter in Tasmania. It’s where our kids grew up, where countless memories were made, and where we still gather as a family today.
In late 2024, we gave the place a little refresh—designed with our kids and their families in mind, so they’d always have a cosy spot to come back to for the holidays. Now, we’re excited to share it with you!
Make yourself at home, relax, and enjoy your time here. We hope Joey’s Place feels just as warm and welcoming to you as it does to us.
Thank you for choosing to stay with us whilst you are on the East Coast.

Drinking water: Here in Swanwick, we rely solely on rainwater to drink. We regularly monitor water levels and quality and while the rainwater is completely safe for us, you may prefer to boil the water from the tap before drinking.
Toilets and Septic: we operate on a septic system, so to avoid an overflowing toilet, please DO NOT place anything down the toilet other than loo paper. There are sanitary bags provided for anything else.

Our wildlife and birds: We have an eco-friendly property and encourage all our native wildlife. The best way to get close to them is to sit quietly and let them come to you – particularly our superb fairy wren family who lives here permanently. We have plenty of different birds as well as an occasional wallaby and echidna.
Please DO NOT hurt our blue tongue lizard. Watch out as it often sits on the drive so, please do not run it over! It is often about in summer and will not hurt you if you leave it alone, but it does have a nasty bite if you try to touch it.
However, if you see a rabbit –cute as they are- these are feral and cause damage to the surrounding bush. They have only moved in recently and feel free to scare these away!!!!
Groceries and Supplies: Coles Bay IGA is a short drive in Coles Bay. They have a good range of products, including wine.
Iluka Tavern has a bottle shop with a range of beverages.
