This room was small, but there closet made up for it by providing space for luggage and clothes. The breakfast had a good variety of food to choose from and was tasty.

Nice clean hotel. Easy check. Reception staff very helpful. The hotel not busy as out of season. Bar not manned and poorly stocked. Not a major issue but it is nice to have a drink after a busy day. Hotel should offer a different “pillow”service as some guests would prefer a firmer pillow. As i would. Overall nice hotel.

I stayed for 1 night in December, visiting Cologne to see the Christmas markets. The staff on arrival were very helpful, and kindly allowed me to check-in a bit early. The room was very clean, lovely bathroom and a kettle was provided on request! Breakfast was also very good, I arrived a bit late so there wasn't as much left but that was my fault for not getting up earlier! It's only a 5 minute walk away from the cathedral and the centre of town, which was very handy. I'd definitely stay here again, thank you 😊

We had a very pleasant stay. Premises are beautiful. Area very safe. Rooms not the most luxurious ones but clean, comfortable, quiet. Walkable to the train station, city center, cathedral, and restaurants. Very nice people the Germans.

A haven in the heart of Cologne
Everything about the property was excellent. My room was spacious and well laid out. The bed was comfy and the shower was really good with great water pressure. I rate the property highly and have already recommended it to friends who are planners to visit for the Christmas markets. The l setting is lovely and it was so quiet it was easy to forget I was in the centre of the city.

Nice Hotel
It was a nice place, clean and comfortable, the room was large and had a very unique closet which was huge. The area was nice, easy walking to the Dom. My only suggestion for improvement would be that if you have a cafe-bar with signs saying open to 22:00, have someone around to operate it? We were in there for an hour hoping someone would come in but never happened and we just went to bed. I know they were around because there were others in there who were served. Small issue, otherwise a very nice place.

We appreciated the location of this hotel, walkable from the train station and Cathedral. The staff was helpful and efficient. Our room was clean and comfortable, although small. We liked the larger closet with space to store an open suitcase. Air conditioning was wonderful during the hot days while we visited. The breakfast was delicious with lots of variety. We would happily stay here again!

Very comfortable room and excellent breakfast
Very friendly welcome and extremely clean room. Breakfast buffet was generous with a good variety of food and quickly replenished dishes. The server was very friendly and helpful in the breakfast room.

Very clean and spacious, didn’t realise it was a catholic hotel and felt uncomfortable in it. Breakfast was sparse and the bed not comfortable at all. Fine for a night, very close to the cathedral and other tourist areas

Maternushaus is conveniently located within walking distance of two train stations, Cologne Cathedral, shops & restaurants & the river. The airport is a little further but easily reached by train or taxi. The complimentary buffet breakfast is extensive and tasty, catering for vegetarians as well as meat eaters. Maternushaus offers good value for money. If we visit Cologne again, we would definitely consider staying again at this hotel.

Excellent and inspiring
This hotel is simply amazing. The modern architecture is stylish and welcoming, with the bonus of a very peaceful Catholic chapel next door. There are also lovely patios around the vast foyer. Interesting contemporary art everywhere. An inspiring environment. The "City view" consists mainly of high-rise buildings and highways, but the windows shield you from the noise. The other side of the building is tranquil, so better ask for a quiet room. - The rooms are well-equipped, the beds comfortable, the breakfast varied. - The staff is friendly and helpful. The reception is staffed at all times. - The location is close to the main railway station and the Old Town. Suggestions for improvement (although I'd currently rate this place “Excellent”): - more vegan options (breakfast and restaurant) - lighter blankets for choice (in the rooms) - drinking water fountains or machines.

Friendly staff and pleasant breakfast. We had an issue with a light in the room staying on because of a faulty sensor. Receptionist came to check and I found a trick to switch it off using some tape. Very religious environment with even the Bible on the bedside table that I found it awkward as I am not religious.

I like quirky, unusual hotels and this fits the bill as the rooms are in the same building as the Diocesan Library and the building also acts as a conference centre (my breakfast companions were chemical scientists there for a 2 day conference). 10 minute walk from the railway station.

Decent hotel which good location
The hotel is close enough to the centre to walk (about 10 mins). There is a garage available under the hotel, although it's €18 per day. Rooms are basic. There's free drinking water available. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room, but some coffee available in lobby at a charge. Staff helpful. Breakfast was ok.

The pillows were awful, far to big and no strength in them. The light as you go in should have a sign saying it is a sensor light which we found annoying as hell! The aircon in your room is very noisy every 20 minutes when it seemed to reset itself. The air of the rest of the building was very stuffy!

The room was very clean and spacious, good shower and bathroom and TV with large screen. Not too noisy as long as window remained closed. The common areas were spacious. Outdoor areas could maybe be made even more nice by adding plants and good furniture. Good breakfast.
