Hampton Inn & Suites Albany-Downtown
8/10 Good
"My stay: Fri Aug 14 -Sun Aug 16, 2026. I was there to visit relatives; other: I lived in anAlbany suburb from 1990 to 2023. The Hampton Downtown Albany is a decent stay but it's liability is being in "downtown Albany". Briefly, and unfortunately, the City of Albany now lacks a tax base to eg adequately maintain their streets or keep them lit after dark. Equally, due its very compacted urban population, there's a high incidence of encountering mentally unstable/verbally abusive individuals & aggressive panhandlers. Dollar for dollar, I would have stayed insteas - as Ive done before - at the Hampton in Latham NY - about 15 miles north of the downtown one. Identical services & quality of stay but eg without the additional $20 parking fee of the downtown location. The Latham location offers access to more mid range restaurants, retail stores, etc. Its plus is that it is in a safe & convenient suburb. The only reason I didn't stay again was that it was booked out likely due to the current Saratoga Race Track season. Bottom line: Stay outside of Albany proper."
St. Charles Hotel
8/10 Good
"The place was clean and reasonably priced and perfectly located for a jaunt around Hudson. However one of the lamps in my room wasn’t functional and there was no hair dryer. Small things but noticeable. The details are small but noticeable. But I would stay there again of traveling to Hudson"
