About this property

Character cottage in Cuq-Toulza (Tarn), near Toulouse, Albi, Carcassonne

Terrace and garden
A landscaped car park for five cars, including a covered space near the main entrance.
The garden entrance is the main entrance to ""The House in the Fields"". The gaze takes in the fields of wheat or sunflowers in a single glance.
The perfectly restored terrace (60m²) is covered by a canal tile roof supported by three large original round pillars in exposed stone. You can enjoy a barbecue, lunch or dinner sheltered from the sun or rain.
Near the terrace games are available for children: slide, swing, tricycle.
The garden, a 2000m2 pool of greenery, is delimited by a hedge. The exceptional 180° view immerses us in landscaped nature. Deer and hares sometimes come to surprise us!
Heated swimming pool 5mx10m
Facing the sunflower fields, a heated swimming pool measuring 5m by 10m (protected by an alarm) allows you to play and swim in complete safety: your buttocks in the water and your nose in the wheat, what could be better?
At the end of the day, swallows sometimes come to drink in low flight.
The swimming pool is surrounded by an exotic wooden beach that blends perfectly into the landscape. 6 sun loungers and 6 deck chairs allow you to relax in the sun or in the shade of the 3 large parasols. A wide staircase allows children to play in the water while still having their feet. The alarm does not exempt you from close monitoring.
Living space
The entrance on the dead end side allows direct access to the kitchen area and the dining room where tradition and modernity coexist harmoniously.
The living room-kitchen-dining room is the living space of ""La maison dans les champs"": 80m² with exposed framework and stonework, lime wash, old terracotta floors. The whole gives a serene and soothing atmosphere.
A welcoming dining room
Equipped with a large farm table, this space, close to the fireplace and the kitchen, remains intimate and practical. A restored original manger can be used as a server.
In front of the monumental fireplace made of fairground bricks (pink brick from the Toulouse region) and oak, sofas and coffee tables are arranged. Wood is available free of charge.
A well-designed kitchen
The layout is a combination of original farmhouse features with modern practicality: dishwasher, induction hob, extractor hood, electric oven, microwave, fridge freezer combination, toaster, electric coffee maker , food processor, kettle, citrus press, laminate worktop, storage cupboards.
An old chest marks the separation between the kitchen and the dining room and contains crockery and cutlery for 14 people.

Perfect setting
This house was perfect for our adult family of 8. Plenty of space, the pool looks over the beautiful rolling fields of southern France. The hosts were welcoming and friendly, very easy to work with.

Beautiful barn conversation
We loved our stay at this property. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and the owners have done a fantastic job restoring the old barn into accommodation. Alain and Sylvie are helpful, friendly and really thoughtful in making sure we all had a lovely stay. There are lots of interesting places to visit in the area - you definitely need a car though. We highly recommend this as a place to stay!

Beautiful views, peaceful stay
The property is a beautifully renovated barn which adjoins the owner's big old stone farmhouse. The interior is well proportioned for multiple occupancy - we were two families with four children ranging from 7-14 and the accommodation was ample for those numbers. It is extremely well appointed with matching crockery, cutlery and a wealth of cooks' tools like blenders. Since one of our numbers is a keen cook, this was very welcome. There is an issue - as previously noted - with the soundproofing from one of the twin rooms to the large double ensuite downstairs. We jiggled the children around to overcome this but if you have noise sensitive adults or light sleepers then they need to go upstairs. The owner was very attentive during our stay and was on top of all the Covid 19 cleaning and sanitising precautions, which we were pleased to note. I believe this meant that the books, DVDs and games which are listed had been removed, so during the pandemic you may want to bring extras if you want entertainment. A welcome pack of milk, eggs, bread and juice would have been welcome - especially for those, like us, who had had a 24 hour journey by car. With check in at 6pm it does mean that there is no time to go and find a supermarket and you will need to stock up before you arrive. The pool is particularly lovely (and heated) and we made much use of this every day. It has beautiful views over the surrounding countryside. It is worth noting, as it is not particularly clear from the listing, that this is a shared facility with the owner and his grandchildren who used it when we weren't (even if we were still around the property) and this meant we didn't always feel as secluded and private as we would have liked. We had a wonderful stay. Close to shops and only an hour's drive to Carcassonne. Thank you!

Lovely place, lovely hosts
Our hosts Alain and Sophie went out of their way to help us when we arrived on May 1st, a national Labor Day holiday where everything closes. They found us a great local restaurant, La Bombadiere (sp?), the kind of country french cooking that our group loves. When we arrived late due to delays getting our car (again, the holiday where no one is working), Alain escorted us to the restaurant and talked to the owners. We had a great dinner to start our stay in the Toulouse area and the Canal du Midi. The house is very well appointed and nicely designed for a large group or family. The location in the country is one that our group prefers and we were not disappointed as the drives and views are wonderful. Albi is a must see. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and our self-driving trip down the Canal du Midi. Thank you Alain and Sophie!

Great family gite
Alain and Sylvie , the owners who live next door are charming and speak very good English so easy to understand all the instructions about the swimming pool which was perfect with a large top step for toddlers to splash around on. House very well equipped with lots maps and info on what to do in the Tarn. Hair dryers are provided . Great space and 5 large double beds 4 WC’s . Charming barn conversion . No bedrooms share a wall with another bedroom but the noise insulation from living area from below is poor. It did not bother us at all as we were all family . We would go there again

Petit paradis
