Lovely home with plenty of room for family and friends. The location was perfect for getting to all the main attractions including Mount Rushmore, Custer National Park and the Badlands.
Would highly recommend
All six of us were in peace service in Nigeria 50+ years ago. This year we met here and enjoyed each other, the cozy space of the house for much conversation and the sights and scenes of the Black Hills.

Good location BUT Find Another
The location is good- 5 miles from Custer and easy access to Custer State Park. The grounds are quiet with abundant wildlife viewing and (mostly) quiet neighbors.
BUT
The cabin essentially has three bedrooms. One is in a dank and musty walkout basement in need of updating; one is on the main floor and is right off the kitchen and quite small; the third and largest is in the attic. None of the bedrooms have a queen or king to accommodate adult partners. They all have 2 separate beds. Great for kids, but where do adults sleep? So, if there are pairs (say, my wife and I looking for a weekend away with the kids), we are stuck in separate beds...Why would a cabin not have a master?
Also, there was a bit of false advertising...the cabin has air conditioning, BUT the largest bedroom, the one in the ATTIC, does NOT. A box fan was provided, but we were still roasting. Good thing we had separate beds...Also, the indoor fireplace advertised in the photos is not available for guest use.
Another issue- the access road is over a mile and not paved. Hope you don't mind stone chips, dust, and a new alignment for your vehicle. The neighborhood is many single wides with junk cars and occasional 7 am target practice.
The cabin uses a management company, unresponsive to my inquiries about specific amenities. After two inquiries, they finally responded...but I was already there
In summary, as with any rental, there are pros and cons. I would not choose this place again!
Great house for a group-well equipped kitchen, plenty of room outside so that we never felt like we were on top of each other. Beds decent, but be aware that people need to share bed spaces to sleep large groups. Loved being in and surrounded by nature. Found stuff to do in town easily. Property manager was very responsive. Good experience.
This was a family vacation with me, my husband, and our 3 young children (3, 4, 7). The location was perfect... 5 minutes from town, 5 minutes from Custer State Park, and on a quiet road. There are neighbors around you, but not super close.
The house had plenty of space and surprisingly good internet (in case you need it). Staff was very helpful and quick to respond when we locked ourselves out! Whoops.
The ONLY negatives were that the upstairs room gets extremely hot and is difficult to cool off, even with the air on. And the water pressure is very touch and go. But that’s me just being picky.
Overall I would definitely recommend this cabin!
While at the cabin we spent most of our time either in the yard playing games and running around, or on the deck and patio reading and playing table games. Location is fantastic with reasonable travel times to all black hill and tourist attractions. We bought a Custer park day pass (good for 7 days), and did the wild life loop most evenings to watch bison on top of all our daily planned activities. It’s a very quiet area great for relaxing outdoors and watching nature. The decor including light fixtures were above and beyond giving a great western cabin feel. The lower level has an additional kitchen area great for beverages to be stored where upstairs was for primarily for food. Allowing plenty of kitchen space for 6 people for the week. Deer continuously came onto property even when we were outside making noise. Kids (6 & 8 yrs) enjoyed playing in the lower level when adults were occupied meal prepping and loved running around the front field easily viewable from deck. Grandparents stayed on main floor for easy access to bathroom and main floor activities. 2 Kids and 2 adults slept upstairs and enjoyed our privacy from rest of house. They provide hallway and ceiling fan to help regulate cool air plus we brought our own fans, so had no issues with heat in august. Cabin was very clean, well maintained and stocked with all necessary items. We’d absolutely recommend this location!

The porch for family meals and hanging out was our favorite feature.
The porch for family meals and hanging out was our favorite feature. Very responsive, easy to contact
We loved the home, especially the deck - we ate all of our meals out there. Great spaces for our group - there are 3 floors. Top floor is pretty warm, but nothing we couldn't handle. Hosts had fans that helped. We would definitely come back and stay here!

We enjoyed our time immensely! House is cozy, lovely deck with deer coming up to graze every evening
We enjoyed our time immensely! House is cozy, lovely deck with deer coming up to graze every evening. Amenities were great. 3 bathrooms are always helpful when you are having a family get together. A bedroom on the main floor is always a plus when you have some folks who don't do stairs well. We did everything online. I didn't really meet anyone, everthing was ready when we got there, no one bothered us. It was great.
Everything was great once we got there. The written directions are incorrect. If not for a helpful local person, We might still be looking. All who used address and GPS found it with no problem. One very important line was omitted from the directions.

The overall experience at the house was excellent.
The overall experience at the house was excellent. Lots of room for a family, great views of the mountains and woods. The house was cleaned very well. Lots of towels and pillows. Washer and dryer were great. Loved the living room and basement. The deck was huge with wonderful views. Conveniently located just south of Custer and short drives to all the major attractions. We loved the house and would highly recommend it for a great stay in the Black Hills. Didn't have direct voice communications with the team, but the email communication was perfectly adequate. Easy check in and check out. This is the second time renting a house in the Black Hills through Rushmore Vacation Rentals. The experience has been excellent.

House was perfect for our family.
House was perfect for our family. Beautiful log cabin!
We had a wonderful stay at Deer Haven cabin. Very clean and the mountain roads were great for travel with our large trailer hauling our 2 Pioneer SxS's. Be mindful of water pressure. If water is being used downstairs it won't turn on upstairs. Overall just a minor inconvenience. Again we had a great time. Deer galore each AM and PM.

We would probably pick a different property just to get a better floor plan and less driving on dirt
We would probably pick a different property just to get a better floor plan and less driving on dirt. Trade off is some seclusion and privacy. I would stay in this cabin again if different circumstances with our traveling companions.
We really appreciated the clean and well kept property!! Timely response to questions and accommodating.
