"Inch worm invasion in hallways and our room. Staff vacuumed hallways, but management didn’t seem to see it as their responsibility to keep worms out of guests’ rooms. Do they ever walk on worms in their bedrooms or wonder if worms are crawling by their toothbrushes???"

"We checked in around 5:45pm and the or I was was quick and smooth. Then we went back after watching the sunset, we had to wait 20 mins for the doorbell person to take care of luggage. Additionally at the front desk, they can’t charge cash - I was hoping to tip staff but could not. "

"The place was spotless, and the home cooked breakfast from Sunny was absolutely delicious. Such a warm and welcoming stay. We would definitely come back again."

"The property is clean, the air conditioning works well, and the shower, though very small, has great water pressure! The complimentary waters in the fridge were great, especially if you arrive late and the nearby market is closed. We were basically there to sleep and had an early-morning trip to Death Valley, so we missed the free mini-breakfast. The reason for the meh rating is that for the price of the room, the wifi should work, and the TV should not be from the early 2000s. Also, the mattress on my bed was old, and it felt like I was lying on the box spring. If you're planning on staying here to be close to Death Valley, just be aware it's still over an hour's drive. We did enjoy the Crowbar restaurant across the street."

"We stayed during a visit to Death Valley National Park. The property was excellent for our needs, spacious, useful kitchen, and the host was very communicative/responsive to our few questions. We didn’t realize the one bedroom had a king size bed, which was perfect for our needs. The drive to the park was easy although a bit long, but we expected that and we feel it was worth the extra driving to have the space we needed plus a good kitchen. "

"This place and its history is very cool! Being able to stay in a place with so much history, isn’t something you have the opportunity to do very often. With that being said, it is old and very quirky and definitely more on the lines of roughing it. If you can appreciate a cool piece of history and want to stay close to Death Valley it does the job…"

"We had a great stay at the Desert Retreat. So very quiet and comfortable - beds were just right and communication with the host went smootly.The perfect place to unwind after a busy day in Death Valley. We like to cook and found all we needed to prepare meals and the outdoor grill was perfect. We travel to DV often and will book again on our next visit."
