About this property
Jewel in the Crown-Fully Restored Mansion For Reunions, Parties & Groups Slps 21
WE OWN 3 PROPERTIES WITHIN 1/2 BLOCK OF EACH OTHER. (Vrbo # 817328 and Vrbo # 398617) The Grande Dame of the Triple Crown is finally finished after 3 years of painstaking renovations and decoration. With her sister mansion Priester House situated next door, you can now host up to 37 adults in both houses (Priester sleeps 16, Koehler sleeps 21 adults). and our Gaines orioerty sleeps 12. In this, our third house, known as the Koehler House and pictured here there are 8 full bedrooms each with a separate en suite bath.
A Queen Anne residence circa 1895 fit for one of the captains of industry of the Gold Coast. Built during the zenith of the neighborhood, the Koehler Mansion was built by Mr. and Mrs. Koehler to be next to their beloved daughter who had married into the Priester family and who lived next door. There is still a stairway connecting the two properties in the back yard. It is fun to imagine the grandchildren of the Koehlers and the Priester given free rein to run and play in both huge houses, watched by their adoring parents, grandparents and household servants.
The Koehler Mansion features a fully appointed kitchen with a fireplace and a large granite island around which to serve and circulate. A cozy breakfast room illuminated by a ship chandelier and the panes of hundreds of pieces of beveled glass. 14 adults can be seated comfortably in the majestic dining room which features a fireplace and seating around the dining table surrounded by a 360 degree scenic mural of the Mississippi River and paddle wheel steamboats.
There is a full walk-through butlers pantry featuring china, glassware and flatware for your use. There are three vintage tin ceilings in the kitchen, master bedroom and east bedroom, a magnificent entry way, and a total of five fireplaces in the house, all are fitted with safe electric log-effect heaters. In the entryway there is a chinese screen-enclosed alcove with a trundle bed for a person wishing to reside on the ground floor. The circular outdoor porch in the backyard is magnificent and is the crowning focus of the house. The porch overlooks the river with peekaboo views. It overlooks both back yards and is a lovely place to enjoy the sun with its south-facing view that is shaded all day long.
By far the favorite public room in the house is the ladies parlor located just off the dining room decorated in soft blue and featuring its original Murano glass chandelier. Soft muted afternoon light and brilliant sunshine on wintery days make this a cozy gathering place that everyone will love. Every bedroom is decorated with an individual theme.
One the first floor there are the Chinese screened alcove with the trundle bed and a queen sized hide a bed in the ladies parlor. The ladies parlor can be made private by its original pocket doors. On the second floor

The Jewel worked perfectly for our extended family who were here for a Celebration of Life. We were able to stay together and do our small after service reception.
Very unique home and decor. Was very fun and made for great discussion. If those walls could talk and tell the stories of the 130 year history. Really nice having so many rooms and bathrooms in each. Would stay again and recommend.
This was the perfect house for us to stay at for a sibling who graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic. The distance from the college and shopping was perfect! All 8 siblings, parents and few others filled the house. Having our own bathroom for every room was a bonus! Plenty of room to gather on the main level too.
This house was very unique and filled with history. Every day we noticed something different. There is plenty of room for a large family or group. We were 11 adults in town for a golf weekend. The House was perfect for us and we enjoyed lounging in the inside and outside of the property. The immediate neighborhood does not offer a lot but a short drive you can get to many restaurants, golf, casinos, etc. we used VIP transportation to get around to the golf courses and they were great to work with if you need transportation.
We had nine adult men together for a guys trip. The property really fit this well as everyone had a separate bedroom. The backyard was secluded and an excellent spot to congregate. The surrounding neighborhood didn't have much to offer, but it was a short distance to the downtown restaurants. Very cool house that was well maintained. The only issue we ran into was there isn't central air on the main floor and the window units had a little difficulty keeping up on a 90+ degree day.
This house was large enough for our group and provided a great place to stay for the duration of our time in Davenport. We arrived when it was dark and it was a little tricky to get into the house. There were no checkout instructions and that was a little confusing.
If you are looking for a large house with lots of bedrooms and bathrooms, this is it. The kitchen was well equipped and we were glad to be able to cook most of our meals there.
Cleanliness left a little to be desired and we did see evidence of some critters, but it is a large property and there is a lot to clean!
We had a great time visiting quad cities during labor day weekend. The house has plenty of rooms for adults and kids and it is especially nice to have a full bath with each bedroom. The location is also great, very close to shopping, dining, and local attractions. We would like to thank the hosts for allowing us to use this beautiful house.
We really enjoyed staying in this lovely house. Besides the beautifully restored rooms and period furnishings, the bathrooms and kitchen had all the conveniences. The back porch was especially nice.
Communication with the owner was easy, and getting into the property was clearly explained and easy to do. I hope we can stay again in the future.
Pleasantly surprised to find everything so charming, comfortable and accommodating for our family of 13. Decor, artwork, antiques and attention to details are much appreciated.
Easy instructions for check in but couldn’t find information on what needed to be done for check out such as do we strip the beds (we assumed yes and did so).
We had 20 people of various ages in the house for a family reunion and 90th birthday celebration. The kitchen was well stocked and the bedrooms all were unique and enjoyable. The house is like a museum, an "eye spy" game and a constant source of discussion. The location is ideal for the river front and old town Davenport.
We had a great weekend gathering from all around to celebrate college graduation. House was perfect. Loved that each bedroom had its own bathroom. So much space and options. No complaints!
Our 4th year returning to this awesome place. Thank you Lois & Maurice. The guys (16 of us from HS) call it "The Nest". It is the perfect landing spot for our annual golf & psychology summit each August. See you next year.
Our class was in town for an all school reunion. It was wonderful to have a separate space to retreat at the end of the day and enjoy our classmates.
Thank you so much.
What a fantastic property. Just as advertised it was big, beautiful and spacious enough for all family members coming from out if town to stay together in one place. We thoroughly enjoyed lounging and socializing on the back porch looking over the cozy backyard where the children played. We couldn't have asked for any better accommodations. The whole process from reservation to check in and check out was flawless. The owner, Lois, communicated quickly and clearly whenever we had questions. We would highly recommend this property for any large group events. You can tell a lot of love and hard work went into the restoration of this unique home.

An historic gem
Wow! A beautifully restored home with everything we needed. Eight friends stayed three nights and enjoyed snooping through the rooms admiring all the details. One suggestion though—how about a piano? Two of us would have loved sitting at a piano in the front parlor playing and singing. Due to the rainfall our golfing was a wash we really enjoyed ourselves at the Koehler Mansion.
Interesting place that was large enough to accommodate our families and our kids. It was so nice that each bedroom had its own full bathroom and made for super convenience. The backyard came in handy one of the evenings for kids to play. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the AC units worked seeing that each day there were in the 90s. Small deduction for cigarette butts left on back porch and yard from previous guests and the neighborhood can be a little suspect but you can’t fault owner for that. Truly a lovely home and overall we enjoyed our time there.
We loved the house! We are 4 families who have vacationed together since our kids were pre-teen. They are now all out of college. There are 17 of us so we used every room. The guest to bathroom ratio was a huge plus for us. The home is beautiful and historic. The beds were comfortable the back porch and patio great for morning coffee or afternoon cocktails We found a booklet of historic homes in the neighborhood so we enjoyed exploring and finding them. Im greatful there are people with the vision and patience yo restore these historic gems.
There is no way to summarize our experience because it would take too many words! This was the most incredible house and it’s charm wowed every person who walked in the door! Our bridal party’s were so comfortable with their own bathrooms and the bedroom with the balcony, AMAZING! We spent so much time on the porch, sipping coffee, drinking champagne, and playing with Jewel(our name choice), the backyard tortoise shell cat! If you get a chance to stay here, do it!
Poor first impression with the grass not mowed, railings falling down on the back porch steps, and unslightly backyard. Inside the house was furnished beautifully with lots of character. The main TV did not work and when we called the caretaker, there was no response. The freezer was not freezing properly. Despite our concerns, we found the house charming and enjoyed our stay.

Our Family Stay
This was truly an eclectic property!
We rented this house as we needed 8 bedrooms with 8 attached bathrooms. When we arrived one of the attached bathrooms had a broken sink and tub with notes attached to not use. Fortunately for us one couple was unable to attend so we used the extra room.
After the first night, one couple said they froze. After investigation, they found one of the windowpanes in their room was broken out.
With lots of renovation and regular maintenance, this property truly could be a jewel.
Best house ever for 13 guys on a golf weekend that won't share a beds!
This place could not have been a better set up for our HS Golf Reunion Weekend. From the location (close to downtown Davenport & some great golf courses), to the layout of the house (very cool Victorian architecture & every bedroom has a bathroom), the kitchen (very updated & large enough for most of us stand around the island and have our morning coffee), to the back porch (our primary hang out spot with total privacy), and the Grand Dining Room (that held all 13 of us around the massive table for meals), as well as very ample parking. Beautifully decorated, but not overdone. Meaning "super comfortable" & "homey"! Thanks to Lois & Maurice Woods for what y'all put into getting this gem back in action. "We Will Be Back!"
The neighborhood was scary
There were bugs. Ants in the kitchen, and Lady Bugs on all the beds. There were a few dead flies too. Maybe 10.
We couldnt get in because we were given the wrong pass code. Then when we got the right code the keys were NOT in the box.
Maintenance man was good. Each time we called him he responded quickly.
