COVID-19 has ushered in major changes to how we travel. If you plan to jet off to Desecheo Island, the following tips will help you navigate these new challenges and rules:

• Before booking anything, see if any travel restrictions apply — in both your origin and destination. Get the latest updates by checking government and airport websites.
• Requirements state you must wear a face mask throughout your travel experience, including at security checkpoints. Be prepared to adjust your mask for ID verification when asked by a TSA employee.
• Rather than handing a TSA officer your boarding pass, place it directly on the reader yourself. When that's done, hold it up for inspection.
• One liquid hand sanitizer container is now permitted in your carry-on bag. It must be no larger than 12 oz (350 ml), and you'll need to remove it from your bag for scanning.
• Remove personal items from your pocket, such as your keys, phone and wallet, and put them in your carry-on rather than into bins. This will reduce handling during the screening process.
• If you want to take food through the security checkpoint, place it in a clear plastic bag and then into a screening bin. This reduces the likelihood that a TSA employee will need to touch your carry-on bag or food container for inspection.
