If you fly into San Jose, Costa Rica, and have time for a day trip, the Arenal Volcano and the attractions around it are worth the time. There is also a volcano near Turrialba that has been active lately, which is a little closer, but has none of the attractions. I have friends who live in the Turrialba area who have faced some uncertain days recently.

"This is a beautiful location. What a view!! Lots of walking (hard if you have mobility issues), a nice path at the front of the property. The pools are fantastic. Lots of parking. The room was huge and the beds very comfortable. Will definitely be back. "

"Casa del Río is a true gem in La Fortuna. The property is beautiful, peaceful, and surrounded by nature — we saw birds and even monkeys during our stay. The rooms are spotless, spacious, and very comfortable, with lovely views that make you feel completely connected to the environment. The staff truly make the experience exceptional: warm, attentive, and always willing to help with recommendations, tours, and transportation. Breakfast was delicious and fresh every morning, and the restaurant is excellent for both lunch and dinner. The location is perfect — close enough to town and attractions, yet quiet and relaxing.
