Cote du Grel cottage 4/5, pool, private garden & balcony, fantastic location
*Taire du Grel, Domme*
COTE DU GREL GITE... This picturesque stone cottage has a private fenced garden with sun loungers and a barbecue. A sweeping stone staircase leads to its spacious balcony overlooking the garden, with views of the forest covered hills. The balcony has a table and chairs and exterior lighting, the ideal place to watch the hot air balloons pass in the early evening and the starry sky at nightfall. A gate from the garden leads to the parking, swimming pool and play area, surrounded by lawns, and fenced around the perimeter.
Enter from the balcony into the kitchen / dining / living room. The tiled floor, original beams and stone features create a bright and comfortable space. The thick stone walls, shutters and electric fans keep it cool in summer, and the wood burning stove creates a warm atmosphere for comfortable winter stays.
The ground floor bedroom has twin beds and a bathroom with a shower, sink and WC. The staircase leads from the living room to a second bathroom, also with shower, sink and WC, and to a large bedroom with a double bed. A single folding bed (for a 5th guest) is available in the upstairs bedroom, or in the living room, on request.
There is a welcome booklet in the cottage with information on nearby attractions, activities and restaurants. Free Wifi, Android TV, English tv, French tv, games, books, DVD player and Films. Towels & Bedding provided. Pets welcome on request.
SHARED SPACES The large swimming pool is surrounded by sun loungers and parasols and overlooks numerous lawns and fruit trees. Watch our free-range chickens eat in their comfortable pen and explore the meadow beyond the fence. The play area includes swings, a monster tire, a large trampoline with enclosure, badminton and a ping-pong table. Ball games are also permitted on the larger fields behind the property. There is also off road parking in front of the main building and a laundry room.
LOCATION... The cottage is set in a quiet off road location, just outside of the hill top Bastille town of Domme, and 15 minutes from the medieval city of Sarlat. The centre of Domme is just a 15-20 minute walk from the gites, or 3 minutes by car, where you will find numerous bars, restaurants, tourist shops, a Casino Contact (small supermarket), a cash machine, and a post office. Domme is a tourist attraction in itself, being officially classed as one of 'the most beautiful villages of France'. It offers a magnificent 180 degree view point across the Dordogne valley, a stalactite cave system with a glass lift looking out over the river, tours of the medieval gate towers which imprisoned the Knights Templars, and beautiful public gardens and footpaths around the ancient town walls.
THE AREA... Nestled at the heart of the Dordogne, the area is a photographers dream! The scenic views are breath-taking, and the magnificent architecture documents the area's fascinating history, with a chateau around almost every corner.
Nearby attractions include sites officially listed as 'The most beautiful villages of France' including the historic towns of Domme, Sarlat, La Roque Gageac built into the cliffs, Castelnaud, Beynac, and the beautiful gardens of Marqueyssac ...All within a 20 minute drive!

Lovely cottage on a small gite site with shared pool, a great clean and comfortable stay, the accommodation and grounds itself are beautiful!Close to Domme for dinner out and Vitrac for canoe hire, about 15 mins drive from Sarlat, we had a very full and fun weekend here.Excellent directions and communication from Ben our host, made us feel most welcome. We very much enjoyed seeing the chickens and the cats and loved the little on site honesty shop with homemade jam, chutney and marmalade. It’s a great location, thanks so much, we had a wonderful weekend!
This was our first trip to the Dordogne and the first time travelling with our 9-month old dog. Our accommodation - Cote du Grel - was perfect for us. Enclosed small garden which was great for our dog and for us relaxing in the sun. Terrace area where we had all our meals - it was so peaceful. Lots of places to visit within a short distance - we’ll definitely be back to the area. Ben and Maria were great hosts - thank you.

We have had a wonderful 2 week stay here. Property was clean and functional, excellent facilities on site. Made use of the pool, table tennis, trampoline, camp fire, rock climbing wall and canoes. Beautiful scenery around and plenty to do out and about. All in all excellent value for money! Thanks to Ben and family!

Wonderful country location. Friendly hosts.
Americans might find it odd to have to rent towels...it would be a nice upgrade to provide them. No electricity in bathrooms. Otherwise nicely equipped and comfortable. Would stay again.
Property and grounds are great we loved it 😎
The host could soften the communication a bit, normal you get an email before you leave saying..hope you’ve had a great time, would love to see you again not we remind you of the contract rules including don’t leave any toothpaste marks in the sink…..etc..etc. a bit harsh it felt like being warned and told off by the teacher !!!!!!!
This is perfectly located for Domme, A 20 min brisk walk uphill or a 3 minute quiet drive. Also it is well placed for the top Dordogne sites within a 20 minute drive.
The gite is what you would expect from the French country property with the addition of pool. Internet was usable, which allowed the pre-arrival UK documents to be up loaded from the comfort of the TV sofa. Even mobile phones worked, I guess as a result of the proximity to Domme.
For a townie the location was quiet, the hooting owls at night were a highlight.
Our hosts were efficient and un-obtrusive. Check-in was brief, a welcome relief after a long journey.
I would recommend booking sooner rather than later for 2022. Domme will not be this quiet again. UK visitors were noticeably absent. Don't leave the French and Dutch to monopolise it.
A great little find, lovely quiet place, gite was spotlessly clean and very comfortable, it had everything we could have wanted, lovely enclosed patio and garden and again a spotlessly clean pool in lovely well kept gardens. Ben the host was great, he answered any questions we asked pronto and the booklet provided with info on the local area, things to do, places to go and see, eat etc was excellent .
A great time was had by all
Thanks Ben and Maria

A lovely, well-equipped gite
We were very impressed with this gite which was one of the best we have stayed in. The layout made it ideal for two couples or a family and it was extremely well equipped and comfortable. The pool was lovely and it was great to have our own garden and patio area too. When we first arrived we thought we were miles from anywhere but this was not the case. It took seven minutes to drive to the nearest supermarket and it was possible to walk into Domme. This took about 25 minutes but uphill all the way there. We did walk back from Domme after eating out but a torch is essential. There are lots of beautiful places to visit in the area and the extensive information provided in the gite was really helpful. A fabulous holiday. Thank you very much.

Super stay
A very comfortable gite, with lots to do at the property, swimming pool, table tennis, badminton etc. and in a superb location for visiting lots of interesting sites close by. Walked into the medieval town of Domme, (only 20 mins easy walking), and visited Beynac and Roque de Gageac. Stunning scenery, good restaurants, and the river Dordogne to enjoy.

Little piece of heaven in the Dordogne
Cannot heap enough praise on this gorgeous gite, part of a small complex close to the lovely medieval town of Domme. It is full of character and has everything needed for a comfortable stay. The location is perfect with some of the best villages and towns in this part of the dordogne in easy reach and loads of interesting sites and garden. We were sent a 'what's on during your stay' email before we arrived which was brilliant in helping us to plan our week, and the quality of tourist information at the gite was second to none. Ben is a great host, super friendly and can't do enough for you, if you are active you must try the canoeing and cyling which he will organise both are superb experiences, we didn't meet Maria but she was very efficient with our booking and any queries - good quality wifi if this is your thing and English tv helped with the teenager. The restaurants recommended in Domme were great (you can walk if you want a drink but you need to be reasonably mobile) - the evening farmers markets were a great eating experience, and if you fancy a night in the pizza takeaway van in Cenac opposite the supermarket was really good. Can't recommend this holiday enough.

Beautiful gite in a fantadtic location
This gite is gorgeous and has everything you need for your holiday. It is in a very peaceful location but only 10-15 mins away from many stunning places. The kids loved the pool, ping-pong, tampoline, badminton and having toasted marshmallows at the fire pit.
The owners Ben could not be more helpful, nothing was too much trouble for him. We hired bikes and kayaks from Ben and he dropped us off and picked us up ehem we were finished which was great. All in all this was our best holiday in France and we hope to return in 2018.

Fabulous family holiday!
Taire du Grel is a beautiful cottage set in hills close the Dordogne river. It is quiet, but convenient for everything. A short walk takes you up to Domme (lovely restaurants and beautiful views from high above the Dordogne) and a short drive takes you down to the river. The cottage itself was perfect for our family of four (we have two boys 8 and 10 yrs). We used the pool every day, played table tennis, made camp fires, did archery and climbed on the climbing wall. Ben and Maria were great hosts. They looked after all of our needs, but weren't intrusive in any way. They supervised the climbing and archery and lent us a canoe and kayak to spend a beautiful day paddling down the river. Everything was clean and well maintained, Ben and Maria made sure we had everything we needed. Thanks for a fabulous holiday guys, and hopefully see you again!

A week of bliss!
Sadly, only stayed a week before moving on, bad move!
Just want to return, and we will.
Nothing but praise for the owners and their friendliness and helpfulness.
Accommodation idyllic and lives up completely to website information.
A car is needed to enjoy the area, but Taire du Grel is only a very short drive from Domme, all types of shops there and more importantly excellent "fooderies "!!
Guess you can assume we enjoyed it!!!!

lovely cottage, great location
We loved our stay here. Location fantastically central to key places and activities (like canoeing and cycling) on the Dordogne and added advantage of being able to walk into the lovely village of Domme nearby.
The cottage very comfortable and well kitted out. Wifi and UK TV a bonus for our two children. Private garden space and terrace secluded and pretty, so you are not on top of people while the grounds with activities like ping pong, fields to run in, plus lovely pool was ideal for our 9 and 11 year olds. Owners extremely helpful and on hand. A really great stay for us all.

A perfect family gite
We are a (fussy) family of four (children aged 7 and 5) with a dog. We absolutely loved our little gite. It was simply perfect and so close to Domme. A beautiful part of the world. We stayed in Maison Du Roses for 1 week. Ben and Maria's attention to detail is fantastic. The gite is so comfortable and spotless. Everything has been thought through so well even down to the welcome pack which gives you valuable advice and information on the local area. We usually turn up to a place and are bombarded by information leaflets, but Maria had kindly put together a folder of all the highlighted places and little local knowledge tricks that most paces don't bother to give you!
We borrowed Ben's kayack which we all loved and our children used his climbing wall too (their highlight of their holiday) His knowledge of the outdoors locally was really helpful. The pool was fantastic for the children and if they weren't in the pool they were bouncing away on the trampoline. We returned home very relaxed, so much so that we're in the process of booking with Ben and Maria again for next year! Highly recommended.
