We visit Duisburg regularly to see friends. The restaurants and shops are easy to find and always pleasant.
The archaeological sites and museums are just a few things visitors like about Duisburg Mitte. Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena and Sportpark Duisburg are worthwhile spots to check out, and you can hop on the metro at Grunewald U-Bahn or Grunewald Betriebshof U-Bahn to get around the larger area.
While you're in Duisburg Süd, take in top sights like Sportpark Duisburg or Tiger and Turtle - Magic Mountain, and hop on the metro to see more of the city at St. Anna Krankenhaus U-Bahn or Muehlenkamp U-Bahn.
If you're spending time in Duisburg City Center, check out sights like Duisburg Christmas Market or Duisburg Town Hall and hop on the metro to see more of the city at Koenig-Heinrich-Platz U-Bahn or Steinsche Gasse U-Bahn.
Get to know Dellviertel and its many features like its bars and museums. You might want to explore sights like Theater am Marientor and Lehmbruck Museum, and you can jump on the metro at Kremerstrasse U-Bahn or Karl-Jarres-Strasse U-Bahn to get around the city.
Check out the parks while you're in Meiderich-Beeck. Hop on the metro at Auf dem Damm U-Bahn and Meiderich U-Bahn to see top sights like Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord and Rhine.
While Rheinhausen may not have many sights to explore, venturing just a little farther will lead you to top things to see and do like Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena and Sportpark Duisburg.

Nice atmosphere with good range of shops and lovely Christmas market
Smallish, with modern buildings. Stupid not visit town, other than a little shopping for essentials, luggage.
There are a lot of dead shopping malls, shops etc... it feels like a city that's struggling and I wasn't sure if I would be safe walking alone at night...
