About this property

Entire place

River Run Cabin in Historic Shasta Retreat.

Shasta Retreat was the original stopping place for all City Travelers in the early 20th century. This fabulous cabin is nestled in pine trees just a short step to the Sacramento River, so bring your fishing rod! Cabins in this north Dunsmuir neighborhood are mostly family owned and passed down through generations.

This cabin is continually updated for your convenience. The bathroom was remodeled in the Fall of 2017, the kitchen/dining area was partially updated in the Fall of 2016. The two bedrooms with comfortable beds and large living room area, all have inviting décor. The cabin includes an outside private patio for morning coffee, or to just listen to the birds during the warm season, and a barbecue for your use. For those snowy winter evenings a wood fireplace in the living room creates a cozy atmosphere. Come visit to see what's new, and this cabin will delight all who need a little quiet time and peaceful tranquility.

Summer sports include world class fishing in the Sacramento and McCloud rivers, water sports in the numerous lakes in the area, and fantastic hiking, including the Castle Crags. Winter sports include the Mount Shasta Ski Park which is about a 30 minute drive from the cabin. Cross country skiing is also close to the ski park, along with the always fun Snowman's Hill.

Come to visit our cabin to feel the beauty and wonder of the canyon and river.

Loved it!
We came from the north to meet friends from the south for a fishing trip. And the cottage was clean, neat and comfortable. The kitchen had amenities like spices and zip lock bags and dish soap which was really appreciated. Yes, the railroad is nearby, but it really didn't disrupt our visit or sleep. We hope to return for another visit!

Lovely, quaint little cabin
Although this cabin is close to the tracks and river, and the train is fairly loud, we didn't mind. It's actually my toddlers favorite part. The cabin was cute but small, very clean, and has all the utensils you need to cook. Its a bit too tight if you need to bring a play pen for a toddler to sleep, so be aware, but otherwise, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Loved the area. Sound of the River and train were very calming. Slept like a baby. The fireplace was an added bonus.

Great Location, close to Shasta and day hikes.
Central, family friendly and charming, very cozy cabin. I read about the train, but it really didn't bother us at all. The owner was helpful and provided me a list of family friendly hikes. We would definitely stay there again.

Very relaxing and comfortable
The beds were probably the best, it is hard to find a place where you sleep well. The trains did go through often, but did not bother us one bit, love the sound of trains. Beautiful all around, kitchen had everything we needed and enjoyed sitting in the living room next to the fire. I would definitely come back!

Delightful and homey
My partner and I stumbled upon Dunsmuir a few years back when looking to celebrate an anniversary. We instantly fell in love with the area. This cabin was the cherry on top of a return trip. The fire was so cozy. The living space had games and books and just felt so welcoming. We didn't want to leave. Our host was amazing and communicated everything we needed. We were already discussing coming back there in the future after day one.
