About this property

Penner Cabin | Peaceful Wilderness Retreat

  • This cozy wilderness retreat in Haliburton, Ontario, is nestled in the heart of the Highlands. The cabin overlooks a serene paddling lake with expansive east- and west-facing views from your private dock. Witness golden sunrises or fiery sunsets, paddle or fish on the lake, or explore hiking and snowmobiling trails right from your doorstep.

    Through our partnership with Haliburton Forest, guests enjoy access to 100,000 acres of protected wilderness. Explore over 400 km of hiking and mountain biking trails from April through November, or use your complimentary snowmobile pass to ride professionally groomed trails all winter long.

    BE AWARE
    This cabin shares the lake with our Big Rock cabin across the lake. You may see other guests on the lake and hiking trails.

    This cabin has a wild shoreline. For deep & clear swimming, you’ll need to paddle to our swimming dock in the middle of the lake.

    WATER
    Our water is pumped from the lake. Running water is shut off when temperatures dip below freezing. This normally happens mid-October but can vary each year.  When running water is shut off, we provide 40L of water for dish washing and drinking. All taps (including shower taps) are turned off. Water is turned back on before the May Long Weekend.

    DRIVE-IN /HIKE-IN ACCESS
    Drive-in Access (4WD Only): Mid-May to Mid-November
    Hike-in Access: Mid-November to Mid-May (300m from parking area)
We provide snowshoes and a sled for gear—embrace the adventure!
    *Please be aware that early heavy snowfall in November may mean that you’ll need to hike into your cabin.

    THINGS TO BRING
    * Your own food & drink
    * Your own towels, sheets, pillows, pillow cases and blankets
    * Firewood
    * Bug repellent

    SNOWMOBLING & RENTALS
    The snowmobile season typically runs from early December to mid-March, depending on weather. Daily snowmobile trail passes are included in your nightly rate—valued at $52 per day per rider! Guests can bring their own snowmobiles or ATVs, or rent directly from Haliburton Forest (rentals start at $274/day).

    We don’t guarantee rental availability, so if you plan to rent, contact Haliburton Forest soon after booking your stay: 1-800-631-2198 or go to: https://www.haliburtonforest.com/book-online/book-snowmobile-rental/.

    OFF-GRID BASICS
    This eco-cabin is completely OFF-GRID. (Don’t let this scare you). Our cabin is modernized and solar powered with electricity and heat. Feel good knowing that you’re choosing a low-carbon, eco-friendly getaway. As an off-grid cabin, energy conservation is key. Drawing too much energy may cause you to lose power, so you’ll need to be mindful of your consumption during your stay. There is a back-up generator when solar power is low.

    LEAVE NO TRACE
    All garbage and recycling must be packed up and taken home on your departure.
