River's Bend Cabin Offers Solitude and Play on the Upper James River

Escape to River’s Bend Cabin nestled on the bluff over the Upper James River! Admire the sunrise over the mountain from the screened-in porch or just sleep in and have a picnic at the river beach later. You will have access to kayaks and canoes and are welcome to bring your own paddle boats, fishing gear or mountain bikes (no ATVs or motorized vehicles). There are ample walking trails where you will likely spot deer, turkeys, otters, geese and even an eagle occasionally. Explore wetlands, forests and cornfields or curl up with a good book while you let the kids feed the chickens. We are blessed with beautiful views and dark skies in a peaceful paradise and welcome the chance to share with you.
River’s Bend is located near Eagle Rock which allows central access to recreational areas, vineyards and historic sites in Buchanan, Roanoke, Lexington, Covington and Alleghany County. Ask us about touring an historic Kanawha Canal lock on adjacent private farmland. We can arrange a private fly fishing lesson, river trip or even mountain bike rides through northern Botetourt county.
There are three bedrooms and two baths that can comfortably accommodate six (6) guests. Bedroom 1 has a queen bed, Bedroom 2 has a king bed (separated into twins at your request) and Bedroom 3 has a queen bed; air mattresses are also available. The kitchen is fully equipped. An open concept design features a fireplace (gas logs) with stone chimney visible from the kitchen, dining and living rooms. There is a game room in the loft equipped with pool table, ping pong table, board games and more. The back deck has a gas grill and ample seating areas overlooking the James River.

Quality time with the granddaughters.

We found a true gem when we booked the Riverbend Cabin. Beautiful and peaceful with preserved nature and wildlife to explore with the girls before and after our daily excursions. We all had a great time.

Bad weather, but enjoyed our stay

Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate during our stay, but the well stocked cabin gave the family plenty of entertainment inside and warm around the fireplace.

This cabin was fabulous!! The pictures did not do it justice on the website. We were able to unwind from the stress of city life and totally enjoy the beauty of nature. Beth was delightful in every aspect. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a memorable experience.

Peaceful river cabin on the James River

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely cabin! The screened in porch was perfect for having a cup of coffee in the morning and ending the day there with a glass of wine. There are trails to walk on the property that our dogs loved! Highly recommend staying here!

Wonderful getaway

We stayed for 4 days and had a wonderful and relaxed time. The location was peaceful, the cabin was beautiful and the overall experience was excellent. The host is wonderful and very quick to respond to questions. We really enjoyed sitting on the porch at dark watching the fireflies. It was a perfect relaxing getaway. Perfect retreat on James River at marker 20

After relocating back to the States we have been fortunate to have canoed the upper James River many times. It still blows me away that people nearby do not know how beautiful it is. That said, I am embarrassed to have finally stumbled across this absolute perfect retreat. The cabin, location, and owners are just amazing. My sons had spring break and this last minute choice was perfect. Thank you, Beth! We’ll definitely be back!

Family time! We spend one weekend yearly away together. This was an outstanding year.

This was an outstanding property. The mountains and river were beautiful. Great sunrises and sunsets. The cabin was exactly what we were hoping. Most of all, the hostess, Beth, was very welcoming at the same time understanding we were mostly interested in “chilling” out. I would recommend this to anyone.

Great place, great location, great hosts

A group of retired couples stayed at River's Bend for New Year's weekend. We never left the place and had a fantastic time. Kitchen was well stocked, game room offered ping pong and pool, hiking right from property. The owner even took the trouble of getting 3 kayaks out of winter storage so that we could kayak on an unusually warm New Year's eve day! She was fantastic :)

The property was amazing and we had a great time. Exploring the trails by the river was so much fun. We saw 3 bears during our stay, turkeys, fish, and hundreds of other animals at the animal Safari nearby. The peaceful starry nights were spectacular, especially to watch the meteor showers. The pool table and pingpong table were a big hit when it was too hot to enjoy the outdoors. Thanks so much for your hospitality.

Weekend getaway

The River’s Bend cabin was everything we expected and more. The cabin has everything we needed and was well equipped and we had the best host in Beth. The setting was perfect. Amazing morning views coupled with complete peace and quiet. Quiet evening relaxation enjoying listening to the sounds of nature while watching the sun set. 2nd time at this property

This is such a great place for when you want to get away but still be relatively close to local attractions. Our group consisted of myself, my brother, his wife, their 2 daughters, a boyfriend and a friend. We came for the VA Safari Park, the Natural Bridge, caverns, and kayaking. I brought my nieces here 2 years ago and we had such a great time, they wanted to come again! Everyone enjoyed their stay. The cabin is beautiful and very clean! Beth, the host, is very welcoming and responsive if you have any questions. Highly recommend!

Amazing Retreat!

A couple friends and I went fishing on the upper James and rented the River's Bend cabin. What a fabulous place! The cabin was clean, spacious, and well-appointed with everything we needed for a 3-day getaway. There are beautiful views of the river from the multi-level back deck and the screened in porch overlooking the mountains was a great spot for a nap or evening cocktail. Our host Elizabeth was top notch!! She provided a wealth of information in advance, was very responsive to all of our questions, and ensured we had everything we needed. I seldom leave reviews but this experience was so good that I needed to share. Thanks Elizabeth and hope to be back in the spring!

Perfect cabin in the woods

This was probably the best rental home we have ever stayed at. The home itself is beautifully laid out with all the comforts for a perfect family getaway. We loved roaming around the property and taking in beautiful Mountain View’s from the front porch. Our kids loved catching fireflies at night on the back deck while my wife and I watched the sunset behind the mountains. Location was perfect, secluded enough to enjoy the sounds of nature and solitude but close enough to town to get essentials. The host went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. She let my daughters ride her tractor and brush hog, my 8 year old said it was the best part of the trip. The house has kayaks, plenty of indoor games, outdoor games, etc… to make sure everyone is entertained. We finished every night with a family game. We will be coming back soon, very impressed with everything.
