Also enjoy the covered porch & two decks for wildlife viewing (deer & turkey are regulars and in summer fireflies too. The place is absolutely gorgeous, it is close to many things to do and I cannot recommend this place enough to anyone who needs a place to stay. The deer and turkeys visited everyday, and birds were plentiful. Our dog enjoyed the walk around.

My family and I loved our stay at the Cardinal Cottage. The location made for easy access to everything the New River Gorge has to offer, and we were able to bring our dogs along for the adventure. I'm sure we will be booking another stay at the cottage in the future.

The Cardinal Cottage is as adorable and serene as the photos and description claim. The location is so convenient to all the sites yet secluded and abundant with wildlife. We saw many deer and turkeys during our time there. Our host Shelby was most gracious and accommodating with our stay. We will definitely stay here again when visiting New River Gorge.

Wonderful updated home. Fully stocked and loved the mowed trails around the property for our pooch. Great location close to all the trails. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again.

Great Family Spot

Such a cute house with lots of updates. We loved playing games and the kitchen was great to cook in. This location is perfect and so close to many trails! We had a wonderful time here.

Family vacation to explore the New River Gorge

We stayed with our 2 young kids and dog and came to explore the New River Gorge National Park. The location was perfect and close to the Gorge, visitor center, and minutes from the Endless Wall Trail! We enjoyed a fire in the fire pit and watching the sun set from the property. The kitchen was well equipped and had a very nice gas range! We had a great stay and the Gorge offered spectacular views from the trails and overlooks.

Peaceful and Serene

The Cardinal Cottage was an awesome escape. It had all we needed in a beautiful location. We loved the privacy, peace, and the views of deer, turkeys, and birds. The hot tub was a great bonus for warmth (though the jets could use a little TLC). We really appreciated the pet-friendly and clean environment! Lovely stay in a winter wonderland!

My husband, pup, and I stayed here a few nights after the new year. The cabin was such a lovely place to watch the snowfalls. We also loved bird watching and seeing the deer. Kitchen was well-stocked so we stayed put, relaxing and playing games. Thank you for a relaxing start to 2025!

Fantastic stay for New River Gorge National Park!

Our group loved this property for our visit to New River Gorge National Park. Great location. Property has a lot of personality. Communication with the host was excellent throughout. We enjoyed the large dining room table and living room sofa, as well as the hot tub. The two king beds were super comfortable and we slept great. Thanks for a fantastic stay!

Outdoors vacation

Perfect home and location near New River Gorge. We hiked, rock climbed and rafted each day. We stayed very active, so the hot tub and comfy beds were a blessing. The family also enjoyed the game room in the evenings. The house is very close to Fayetteville, which had great options for food.

Fall Getaway

What a neat place to stay, everything was very clean. Very close to hiking trails. We got to see the northern lights and a meteor shower while sitting in the hot tub our second night. Also got to see a bear along the road when headed to town. Host was super quick to respond to some questions we had. Game room is a nice bonus as well. Will stay here again.

Wonderful place to Stay

We really enjoyed our stay at this house. It was super clean and met all our families needs and wants. The hot tub was very clean and a nice addition to our stay. Beds were comfy and we had everything we needed in the kitchen. Thank you to the owner who even decorated for Christmas as we were having a Christmas get together with our son and his family, and the house was just perfect! Our grandson loved the game room. You will not be disappointed with this rental!

The Cardinal Cottage is very nice and comfortable!

We forgot to write in the journal but there were 3 adults and our Westie who stayed in the cottage. We loved seeing all the deer and turkeys in the area. Our family reunion was at Adventures on the Gorge and this cottage was only 10 minutes away from all the family and activities. It worked out great! Thanks again for a great stay!

Outstanding Stay in Every Way

We loved Cardinal Cottage. Location was perfect for all the hiking and sight-seeing we wanted to do. The house was very cute, very clean, and very well stocked. It had everything we needed. Host was extremely responsive. The neighborhood is quiet with glorious trees and some wildlife to observe. We could not have been happier.

Property was even better than advertised! Very clean, close to MANY attractions, quiet, plenty of room for six adults, friendly and responsive owner, and deer are literally there every day laying in the field. Check out the endless wall hike that is very close and you may make friends with a random goat. :) Would highly recommend! Gave my son and I memories that will last forever.

West Virginia getaway

We wanted to see the New River Gorge & surrounding area and the Cardinal Cottage was the perfect place to stay. It had everything we needed including 2 king size beds. It was located in a peaceful setting on 11 acres. Our group consisted of 2 couples around 70 yrs old. The house had easy access and the 2 showers in the bathrooms were easy to get into. The owner was super responsive and answered all of our questions. We had a wonderful week!

Loved our stay

Location was great for visiting New River Gorge. We enjoyed the beautiful property, seen deer every evening along with a beautiful sunset and turkeys in morning. Property had everything we needed to make breakfast each day. We also had a fire every night. The fire pit was great for relaxing and all the outside furniture was clean and in great shape. Bed was comfy and house was nice and quiet. We are already talking about coming back to this property and we never stay the same place twice. We loved it.

Excellent location

We had a wondeful time at the Cardinal Cottage. From walking in to a fresh, clean smell to the great layout and newness everywhere we coud habe not been happier. The kids loved the outbuilding game room fully equpped wih TV, fusball table, wifi, and AC. They spent a lot of time out there. The main trails were within 10 minutes. We would definitely stay here again. I would highly recommend it!

Wonderful place to stay

They had everything you needed at the cottage. It was enjoyable to watch the deer, turkeys and bunny from the back deck each day. You are just a short 10-15 minute ride to the New River Gorge Park, which was so convenient for exploring. Not to mention if you forgot to pack something Walmart was only about 15 minutes away. Yes, we had to make two trips to Walmart during our 9 day stay. I suggest stopping at the Secret Sandwich Society for a meal. Their food and service was excellent. We had a wonderful time.

Pleasant and comfortable

Cardinal cottage played host to a group of 6 couples and one dog. We had everything we needed and especially enjoyed the hot tub to soothe our aches after rafting and hiking. The views from the deck were also a highlight as we spent every morning and every evening watching deer and listening to bluegrass. Home is very close to a couple of great hiking trails, rafting outfitters, and the Burrito bar at Breeze Hill. The beds were comfortable and we appreciated the large kitchen for our group. We look furward to returning.

Happily Exhausted

Everyday was an adventure for our group of two couples from NJ who travel together every year. Biking (downhill was the best!), eating out at Gaines Estates and other local restaurants, grilling in, boating, and more biking were some of the highlights of our trip. We were all able to get a good night sleep for each of the five nights of our stay. The wildlife in the backyard was a bonus. Kitchen was well-stocked! Wild and wonderful time. We love West Virginia.
