An excellent choice especially for large groups. House is well provisioned and well maintained. Nice touch having the fire place light upon arrival.Owners checked to make sure everything was on track. Exceptional experience.
This cabin was absolutely amazing! Everthing was clean and very comfortable. The bedrooms are away from the from the living room making it quiet for those who wish to sleep. The kitchen was well supplied with a variety of pans and cooking supplies. The host was quick to answer any questions. I would highly recommend making a reservation.
House location is wonderful!! It was great in winter but I bet even better in summer. Proximity to town was perfect. The game room was an absolute blast and the views from the main room were phenomenal!!
Everything about our stay was positively perfect! Very responsive to our needs if we had questions, beds were extremely comfortable. The home is absolutely gorgeous and every amenity is available you want for nothing. Would stay here again in a heartbeat, we had a fantastic time!
This property is perfect for large groups. Never did we feel like we didn’t have enough space. The canoe and the kayaks were nice to have on hand and the sauna was fantastic….all the amenities were great and we did use them all.The host Marcus was very quick to respond to all of our questions.Highly recommend this property, you will not be disappointed.
We had a wonderful stay at this property, which provided a perfect blend of activities and relaxation. The sauna was a highlight, offering a great way to unwind. The high-end appliances, along with the grill and smoker, made cooking a pleasure. We truly enjoyed our time here and would definitely rent this property again. 5/5 Rating!
Gorgeous views and very nice cabin!
Host was extremely responsive to any and all of our questions. He even helped locate a left behind toy.
Only recommendation is if you travel there in the winter make sure you have good tires and 4 wheel drive! Drive is steep and slipperly when that gorgeous Minneaota snow starts falling!
We had a group of three families stay at the cabin. It is safe to say that we all agreed that this was one of the best, if not the best, rental properties we’ve ever stayed in. The owners of the property clearly spent a lot of time and intention on making this cabin feel warm and comfortable for all. We loved the unique characteristics of the cabin, such as the antiques and local touches. We would love to stay here again.
Three families headed to Ely for the Memorial Day weekend and had a wonderful time at this modern log cabin. The house was a perfect for our size of group of 12. The kitchen was large and well equipped for in-home cooking, and the adults and kids each had their own spaces to hang out. We also enjoyed the sauna and beach. The location near Ely made it easy to swing by the grocery store, visit the Wolf Center, and head into the Boundary Waters for a day. There was even a running path nearby for us runners.
A great setup for groups with plenty of room. We had 4 couples staying together, and it worked out great. While one was in the bunk room, they loved having their own bathroom. A major plus is the house layout, with all the sleeping areas on one end of the place and the main common areas on the other. That way as people woke up they could join the group without disturbing those still sleeping. The sauna was great and got used almost every day. The boat launch area could be improved, but moving massive boulders to create a cleaner area probably isn’t a priority. The dock ladder could be nicer, but is still functional. The location is phenomenal though. A few minutes drive to town and tons of attractions was great. The walking path around Miner’s lake is one driveway over and was very convenient since we had dogs with us.Our group was raving about the place and already saying we should make staying here a tradition. We’re also considering bringing a family group here as well.
Before you even arrive at the rental Marcus & Abby warmly welcomed us, provided info and communicated promptly! From the moment you walk in, you feel right at home. The Northern Exposure cabin is tastefully decorated, clean, cozy, comfortable and plenty of room for our group. All have their own space and gathering areas. Loved the lake view and sauna. We used it every night. Even better when it snows. We snowshoed right from the house and nearby trails. We hope to return one day!! Thanks for making our stay TOP NOTCH!
The house was spectacular, very clean and well laid out. Everyone had a quiet bedroom to retreat to each night, and the common areas were large and accommodating.I saw more deer from the house than I saw the last three years combined sitting in the woods, and I’m a pretty serious hunter. It’s really cool to wake up, be drinking coffee, and watch multiple deer walk right outside the window.Lake access was a breeze, and wile fishing wasn’t amazing, fish were still caught, including a 15lb pike. Marcus was very responsive, and very friendly. I highly recommend this property for your next up north adventure.
We rented the cabin to celebrate my parent's 50th wedding anniversary. During our childhood my parents took us on canoe trips into the boundary waters. These hardcore trips are core memories for us. Therefore, to celebrate 50 years we wanted to recreate the memories without all of the hardship. Staying at this beautiful cabin was perfection. We got the smells, sights and feels of the boundary waters but with luxury instead of misery. It makes me wonder why my parents ever did it any other way...oh wait, I know, it built character. Thanks Ma & Pa we love you. We also love the cabin and hope to get rent it out again!
The house was absolutely beautiful as pictured. We loved everything about it - the spacious living room, sauna, and game room! We especially loved playing game after game of Pac-Man and utilizing the upstairs large table to work on a Christmas puzzle. We enjoyed the sunset views over the water while we sat around the bonfire.
The location was great for us. We enjoyed being close to town to grab coffee in the morning and to check out the shops.
We experienced some trouble with the oven the night before Thanksgiving, but Marcus was quick to respond and sent a maintenance guy over right away to help. He checked in and made sure our stay was going well. We really appreciated their care and communication.
We hope to come back to enjoy all of the wonderful amenities again. I will be recommending this place to all my friends who plan to visit the area.
Our multi-generational family of 10 (ages 16-83) spent an amazing 4 days enjoying this lovely home along the shores of Shagawa. The pictures online are gorgeous, yet nothing compares to the actual in person experience. So much detail and love went into every aspect of this home, from the layout (bedrooms on one side of the home and kitchen/entertainment on the other, with windows giving a spectacular view wherever you happened to be) to the decor which was colorful, interesting and historic! The kitchen is well appointed with everything you need to dine in and the mattresses and pillows were all quite comfortable. There were plenty of activities to keep us entertained, both indoors and out. We also enjoyed the close proximity to Ely shops and restaurants. We certainly hope to return. Communication with Marcus and Abby was seemless and they made us feel very welcomed. If we could give this property a higher rating, we would!
We rented this home for our daughter’s wedding weekend in Ely. We have a tiny cabin and in the area and needed a larger place to accommodate our large family and this house was perfect! We had 12 people total and were a central gathering place for many out of town and local family and friends.
The house was immaculate- seriously the cleanest house any of us have rented. The kitchen was well stocked, the beds were comfortable and bedrooms were out of the way and private. There were plenty of spaces for people to get away from the group and plenty of space for us to gather with everyone.
The screen porch was perfect for morning coffee.
No mosquitos because of our late September stay!
We enjoyed the Sauna AND our swims afterwards.
Location is great and close to town; if you want to walk to breakfast the Grand Ely Lodge is 1/4 mile away on the bike trail.
Ely is a second home for us but if you are new to the area the owners have a well written book with local hot spots and trails listed, plus everything you need to know about the property.
The only downfall- which isn’t even an issue- is that the neighbors seem to be intolerant of noise- our grandchildren are 3-5 and their outside noisy play elicited a noise complaint from the neighbors, nevertheless the owners contacted us and were understanding- they just asked us to try to turn it down a notch, which we did.
Marcus and Abby Andrusko's "Northern Exposure Cabin" provided the ideal destination for our reunion of longtime friends. There were so many things about the experience that stood out to my friends and me. For starters, Marcus and Abby's attention to detail is impeccable. From the airy, yet cozy, design of the cabin to the the incredibly tasteful decor, the home was fit for a magazine. While our group prepared most of our meals in advance, we were taken by Northern Exposure's kitchen offerings. The cabin had just about anything one could want to prepare any meal. What's more, the knives were numerous AND sharp! The abundance of high-quality flatware, glassware, plates and bowls are ideal for a large group. From the foosball table to the Pac-Man, from the broad movie offerings to the many puzzles and from the loft's gaming table to the inviting sauna, if bad weather finds you stuck inside for a spell, there is no shortage of fun things to keep one busy. While most of our group has spent a lot of time in Ely, Marcus and Abby's Ely information booklet was remarkably thorough and exhaustive. Book the place, and you'll see - the hosts are ALL about the details! The cabin is within walking distance to Ely, yet distant enough to make one feel like they are far removed from the cares of the world. There were a few occasions on which I needed to communicate with the hosts. I am very grateful for the swift and thoughtful responses I received. I would highly recommend Northern Exposure!
Beautiful home with plenty of space, inside and out!
Our extended family of 16 (ages 66-1 year) just returned from a stay at this beautiful property. We had a wonderful time!
Home: the home is spacious and we never felt crowded. It was equipped with everything we needed to cook all of our meals. The pack n play and high chair were a bonus! Plenty of towels, which is always nice. We spent most of our nights in the screened in porch (darn fire ban and heat), but it was perfect. The decor in the house was so much fun, even our kids commented on it. Very well done. There is no AC, but even on the 91 degree day, the house stayed cool. It’s very shade and has a wonderful breeze off of the lake.
Outdoors: beautiful, spacious lot. Our kids spent nearly all day on the beach. The house was stocked with many outdoor toys; we especially loved the kayaks, SUP, and bags. A bonus was the many life jackets provided! We enjoyed boating on the lake and even went to nearby Burntside lake, which was beautiful as well.
Location: You can’t beat this location in the Ey area. The house is a short car ride to town or even a short 8-10 min bike ride to town. We loved having the bike trail right across the street.
Host: Marcus was more than accommodating and could not have been a better host. He responded to all inquiries in a timely manner and provided detailed information on the house that we appreciated! Check in check out was some of the easiest we’ve dealt with.
