"The staff was great, but the food at Shade is not good; it's too expensive and not what one would expect. The clam chowder had almost no clams and no potatoes either. But the rooms are very good -- very spacious and comfortable. There is no microwave, which is a shame, but there is a small fridge. There is a nice exercise room, and there is a hot tub in use, but the pool has no heat. There are pluses and minuses here."

"This is an older hotel near a lake, so the hotel was as expected a little lake-ish. Outdoor area is nice. Picnic tables, fire pit are along the lake, dock is closed off but they did have 2 paddle boats sitting there, however I did not ask about these, so I am unsure if you can use them. They also had firewood, but I was here to visit family so I did not utilize many things. The hotel does need some love but rooms were clean. There was Not a fridge in this room. They do have older carpet and our sink had a little leak. There is a pool and the pool was clean but there is not a hot tub. The pool area is well lit (this was a concern as I saw a review that said it was dark in the pool area). Expedia states that there is a restaurant onsite, but there is not and that is of no fault of the hotel. Staff persons were helpful and nice, I spoke with the as I had an issue with my reservation (again not the hotels fault). I would also suggest going directly to the hotel site if you are going to book this hotel and not using expedia. There are two hotels named Sturbridge so be sure to know which one you are booking."

"Very good stay, excellent clean room, very good breakfast, really nice lobby/breakfast room and halls. Very quiet. The desk needs to be manned more consistently. Each time I went to the desk, it took a few minutes for someone in the back room to notice I was there - they were otherwise very helpful."

"The hotel was disgusting, FIRST room we took 5 steps in and stuck to the floor. Very visible sticky stain. Second room was cleaner. A lot of damaged walls, stains and smells. They don't have full size towels (we asked!). Hand towel is as big as it gets. Breakfast is pathetic. One mr. Coffee size pot of coffee for everyone in the hotel, granola bars, applesauce, questionable bread and waffle batter. Juice was out of order. Check in staff member was lovely and apologetic for the gross room. Check out staff was annoyed, I wouldn't just leave the key on the counter (I wanted to make sure it got put away, so I wasn't charged). Beds were very uncomfortable and the pillows were the size of a throw pillow we got 3 for a queen size bed."
