About this property
Retro Metro Deck House | MCM Gem with Hot Tub & Spectacular Views!
Nestled on 9+ private acres on Little Pisgah Mountain, retro charm and contemporary style converge at this original Mid-Century Modern “Deck House.” The home embraces many of the design's signature features, including an open floor plan, mahogany trim, a hand-routed waffle door, expansive windows, and sliding doors with screens. From the vibrant color palette and abstract local expressionist art unique to each space, to the eclectic light fixtures and high-quality craftsmanship, you'll instantly feel inspired by the innovative style of this inviting mountain oasis.
In the morning, settle into the Adirondack chairs on the upper wraparound deck to watch the sunrise as you sip coffee and listen to the songs of native birds. On rainy days, hear the tranquil rush of nearby mountain streams, and on windy ones, the gentle whistle through the rhododendrons. After coffee, wander the wooded mountain terrain on the property's walking paths that wind around the house and up the hillside before returning for breakfast at the kitchen bar. Thoughtfully supplied and stocked, the sleek gourmet kitchen includes a waffle maker and Vitamix, perfect for making waffles and fruit smoothies for your group. Boasting a Dog Cubby with two bowl sets and toys, your pup can enjoy their own special space while you cook. After breakfast, carve out time to work on projects at the desk in the main living room or keep up with your workout routine in the compact home gym.
Retro Metro Deck House is located 20 minutes from the quaint towns of Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, and 15 minutes from Asheville, in the quiet community of Fairview, dotted with picturesque farmland. Hickory Nut Gap Farm is best known for its meat supply to Asheville's farm-to-table restaurants and for its seasonal festivals and events. For more farm fun, visit sustainable Flying Cloud Farm, where you can treat yourself to a colorful U-pick bouquet of native flowers, veggies, greens, and fruits. Once you've had your fill of country charm, head into Asheville for shopping, dining, and the vibrant art scene that defines the mountains of Western North Carolina.
For area hiking, check out Bearwallow Mountain Trail, an easy one-mile hike that leads to a grassy meadow at the summit and features nearly 360° views, including Mt. Mitchell and Mt. Pisgah. You'll love strolling among wildflowers and picnicking alongside the grazing cattle that call this mountaintop home. After your hike, reward yourself with a cold beer from Whistlehop Brewing Co., which includes a family and pet-friendly playground and mini-golf. Then head over to Turgua Brewing, a unique farmhouse brewery beside Cane Creek, to listen to live music, sip on craft beers, meads, or ales, and enjoy food from local trucks.
In the evening, return home to read a book from the home's library before preparing dinner using the gas grill and enjoying it at the live-edge dining table with panoramic woodland views. Afterward, grab chilled mixers from the beverage fridge and use the tools on the bar cart to craft a cocktail to enjoy by one of the two wood-burning fireplaces or around the glowing gas fire pit on the deck. Linger outside to stargaze or take a relaxing soak in the large hot tub before returning indoors to stream your favorite show or pop in one of the many DVDs. Stay up late playing foosball, Galaga retro arcade games, board games/card games, or enjoy a quiet night working on a puzzle with a glass of wine.

Our favorite cabin in NC. We’ll definitely be back. We loved the retro feel with modern amenities. It feels remote, but you can be in town in 20 minutes. We wanted to stay a few more days.
We had a lovely stay to celebrate x=mas with family in the neighborhood. The setting and view are fabulous
and the house is very comfortable and has everything one could need. The driveway is steep but we had no problems with the AWD rental car.
the power went out the first night there and was not on until 1pm the next day. A generator kicked on in the night and we had no hardship with the lack of power.
we had a wonderful stay in the retro metro house.
The house is a unique art piece itself and has so many lovely touches. From the kitchen, to the master suite, to the huge sliding doors all throughout the 2nd floor that let you open out into that deck that looks out in the mountains. Given the trees you pretty much always have the opportunity to be either in shade or in sun on the huge desk depending on your preference. The place feels very very private and you pass by horses and cows on the way up to the place. It feels like a very magical escape especially being so relatively close to Asheville. 10/10
The "Retro-Metro" house is a great blast from the past, and very well kept (if you saw the TV series "Mad Men" you have an idea of the style). The drive up there is steep and narrow so be prepared for that, but it's worth it because you are half way up a heavily wooded mountainside and will be able to enjoy lots of privacy in natural surroundings. Master bedroom and bath are really nice (we didn't use the other bedrooms), kitchen/dining area has everything you need. A bonus is a hiking trail that starts on the property and goes up (and I mean UP) to the top of the mountain. Hot tub works well and is easy to use. Rental company communicated well and were very helpful. Asheville/Fairview are starting to recover from the flooding so we felt good about helping with the effort.
Really loved the retro feel and updated amenities. It is a seamless intersection between a Mike Brady designed house and JW Marriott Suite :)... My teenagers also got a kick out of it. Highly recommend.
The house was beautifully decorated and impeccable! The beds were comfy, views were great and common area was perfect to gather with friends. Loved the updated kitchen. It had everything we needed and even dog bowls and treats for the pups. The only thing I wish is that they had a TV in the upstairs common area but was nice to play games and interact with others without distractions! :) I would definitely stay here again!

Challenge
The location, condition of driveway and access into house is challenging if staying 2 months and older tenants. No access into house without stairs. An SUV is needed for driveway especially when rain. The first 2 weeks or so it rained everyday which made driveway an issue.
This late 70's retro house has been beautifully updated. It retains its charm, expansive windows and woodwork while staying true to the style of the period. The kitchens and baths are all modern and the owners have thought of everything you could possibly want including thinking of your furry friends! When sitting on the deck- often the only sound is the birds and the rustling of the wind in the trees- and the decks are the stars of the property! Sunset is lovely. We visited Ashville multiple times while we were there for dinner and also went to Biltmore. The rental company was great about communicating about absolutely everything and let us know in advance about the steep driveway as well as answering any questions we had. Relax and enjoy the quiet!
Loved the location and amenities. Rental had everything we needed
It was really relaxing to sit on the veranda and enjoy the views Kitchen was really well stocked. Plenty of blankets , duvets and towels available. Easy check in and checkout
Enjoyed the house, it’s beautiful view and all its amenities. The house was as advertised, check in was seamless and the property management group was responsive with an issue around a clogged shower drain causing a leak on our final day. Would absolutely recommend this house and go back.
We stayed in the house in mid-February 2022, with two adults, four kids, and a dog. The house is fantastic -- very comfortable, extraordinarily well organized and maintained, and equipped with virtually everything you might need during the stay. Highly recommended.
The views from this property are just as promised. We loved the open floor plan, expansive porches and updated finishes in the house. It was a real treat for our winter holiday.
