The Stone House - Wild Atlantic Way

Family-friendly holiday home in Fanore
This house is truly a remarkable work of art. It was built to resemble an old stone barn and does so beautifully.

On the bottom floor there are two bedrooms both with en suite bathrooms. One bedroom has a king size bed while the other has a queen. There is a study just outside the master bedroom with a twin bed. Upstairs you will find a magnificent Great Room. At the one end there is a seating area in front of a gorgeous stone fireplace. At the other end you can sit and take in the Aran Islands, Galway Bay and breathtaking sunsets through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The second twin bed is a daybed at the end of the room with the fireplace.

In the center of the room, there is a kitchen area with an antique table that comfortably seats 12 people. Also, hidden behind the fireplace, there is a powder room. The entire house has under floor heating which is truly decadent in the cool Irish countryside.

For those of you who wish to leave the house you will find abundant entertainment. There is a gorgeous sand beach just down the road. For the golfers in your group there is a world-class golf course just a few towns over in Lahinch. Also in Lahinch you will find some of the country's best surfing. Fanore is not as renowned for its surfing but does have a surf school every summer. And for those of you music lovers, Doolin is just one town over and is renowned for its traditional Irish music.

In addition Doolin has many incredible restaurants and a fabulous craft store just down the road from the church (The Doolin Craft Shop). And if you need to get out of the countryside and into a city, Galway is just an hour away. It’s a wonderful city. Despite its small size you can find most anything you need there. If you’re looking for a great bottle of Irish Whiskey or an unusual bottle of wine, go to The Vineyard then stop by Sheridan’s Cheesemongers where you will find an amazing selection of cheese from around the world. But for those who wish to explore Fanore, you will find gorgeous scenic walks and some of the best angling in the country. And if you want to see things from s different angle, go horseback riding. You’ll love it.

The house is just up the road from O'Donohue's Pub, a small grocery shop and a fabulous restaurant (Vasco). All of them are within walking distance.

"She said they came from Clare"
Although we have been visiting Ireland for nearly 25 years, because we have friends in Mayo that is where we concentrated our stays. However, this time we decided to give Clare a try. Boy, are we glad we did. Firstly, the owners are easy to communicate with and have a wealth of knowledge (their check-in packet was among the most complete I have ever received). The house is in a wonderful location with an incredible sea view from many windows. Interior is spacious, the kitchen well-equipped (we cooked many meals) and the living areas wonderful. While the sun shines we stayed toward the ocean view, after sunset we sat in front of the fireplace; it works/draws really well. Go to the Caher Valley Garden Tour, there is a brochure by the telephone. Take the walk with Tony Kirby in the Burren. He does not disappoint. Go to the Doolin cave. Wow. As we were there in October, a lot of restaurants were closed. During the off-season many places only serve on Friday-Saturday-Sunday. You are not in a touristy town like Doolin (which we loved). O'Donohue's Pub (within walking distance) gives a real local flavor. Do we recommend this property? Well, we are already booked for January of next year. Go!

Pure relaxation
What a wonderful base for a holiday. We had planned to out in the evenings but why would you when you can sip a glass of wine and watch the sun go down from your terrace! Plenty to do and see in the area also. We had a lovely break

5/5 Excellent

Beautiful house with lovely sea views
Beautiful house with lovely views. Close to the beach and pub which does a really good fish and chips. Kitchen was well stocked which is always a big plus and a really nice oven to cook on. Very comfortable beds as well.

4/5 Good

Great house with a fantastic sea view
We had a lovely week long stay at the Stone House. The house is very comfortable, has a fantastic living room space with a lovely balcony and great views of the sea and Aran Islands and complimented with a beautifully designed garden. Whilst the house had everything we needed I would recommend it for 2 couples or a family of 4 as one of the single beds is in the living room space, which was not ideal for our family of 5.

5/5 Excellent

Perfect location
This really is the perfect house in the perfect location.
